ITV News Report and interview with Tom Baker which mistakingly included animation from Ian Levine's fan project rather than from the official release. Broadcast 24/11/2017.

@Matt Maloney He really tried to get this released by the BBC but they said no and made their own version. The fact ITV messed up and accidently used a clip to promote the Shada DVD from a version that is never coming out must have really annoyed Levine. I'd be angry as well. You have to wonder where ITV got the clip from.

1:10 Wow, I'm glad I didn't watch this before I brought the "Shada" Blu-ray. When I watched the Blu-ray, my reaction to the ending was the same as my reaction to Tom Baker's cameo in "The Day of the Doctor". What a moment it was seeing him in his costume and scarf again. I'm glad he sounded positive about Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor. I wish her the greatest of luck too.

I actually think the Levine animation is pretty good. I would have liked to see a version with this animation combined with the visual effects model sequences shot for the new BBC release and of course with Tom overdubbing the voice of the Doctor and appearing in the final scene.

Wait! I didn't know about that part that Tom didn't get along with the Producer. All I know is that someone tried to convince Tom to come back to reprise the role again, but Tom said he had too many commitments.....later Tom admitted that he regret his decision.

Although they became friendlier later on, JNT (along with Bidmead) was part of the reason Tom left, as they were more controlling than any production team he'd previously worked with and it just stopped being fun for him. Given it was so soon and he was still trying to shake off typecasting, I don't blame him in the slightest for not wanting to go back at that point.

@codyw1 'More controlling' was exactly what was needed. Tom had become so arrogant and self-important by that time and was inserting pathetically, feeble 'gags' that the writers objected too, was telling directors how to direct and basically being loathed by everyone else on set. It is entirely due to JNT's firm stance that Season 18 is light years ahead of its predecessor in all aspects.

The BBC version is far far better. Ian Levine's isn't bad but he tried to ruin the show in the mid eighties. He is so arrogant
