Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Allen got into a disagreement during their match at the Champion of Champions which Allen won 6-3 to progress to the semi-finals. O'Sullivan felt that Allen was interfering with his eyeline while he was at the table.

O’Sullivan couldn’t handle that Allen was drubbing him and threw his toys out of the pram trying to lash out and blame someone, something, anything, anyone other than himself. But if what you are saying is true (which I don’t think it is), but IF it is true then that was extremely poor sportsmanship on Ronnie’s part. To start some unwarranted bs made up argument against your opponent; falsely accusing Allen and deliberately trying to put him off. So either way you want it, ROS comes off as being a total knob here.

I know Ronnie can be very ignorant at times, but I have to say I’m with him on this one, mark shouldn’t be standing around the table when his opponent is at the table that’s very off putting and disrespectful. That’s why Ronnie took his time to make a point. The ref should be able to tell players to stay seated if There not playing, also the rules state the non striker should be seated, the ref should know this and acted on it to avoid situations like this.

I thought Allen held it together pretty well. Tensions run high, especially when you're not performing up to your own standards. Ronnie is such a perfectionist that he feels irritated if his game is under par, even slightly. Add to that the smallest of distractions and you have a potential situation. The mere fact Ronnie was (uncharacteristically) taking longer over shots should have told Mark something. You don't remove velcro or whatever when a player is on the shot. I'm sure it wasn't deliberate but even so, these guys are experienced enough to know better. But, he did react like a gentleman. Ronnie shouldn't have gone over to him. The referee? Should have been a bit firmer instead of pleading. He loses his authority like that. Ronnie was almost ignoring him at first. No player is bigger than the game or the referee. I hope we are not witnessing a moving away from the 'gentleman's game'. One of the reasons I'm proud to be a snooker player and love the game is that it is always played in an impeccable gentlemanly way

Most people want to disregard Allen was messing with his jacket whilst Ronnie was down on the shot, regardless of how well or badly handled the situation, Allen was out of order you don’t do that when the other player is on a shot. Whether he was doing to it to put him off is hard to say but he was deliberately not following the right etiquette.

With respect you are supposed to be still in your chair - just for that few seconds while the player is actually on the shot. Most players manage to do this - freezing at the right moment. Allen didn't - whether deliberately or not I couldn't say.

@@ian8745 He wasn't that bad. Let's not forget here, the TV audience isn't privy to perfect sound of what players are saying. You don't know what Allen was saying in response. And you don't know what O'Sullivan was saying fully. It was getting towards the end of the match, so the frustration had obviously built. Human beings are guilty of that. You say arsehole, someone else doesn't care. That's an opinion, a perspective. Not fact.

Lol everyone loved Alex Higgins, but he head butted officials and sometimes threatened players. He was the people’s champion. And people loved him because you never knew what Alex would turn up. Alex was snookers first maverick. Ronnie is the same - enjoy his talent and his antics while he’s still around. The day he retires will be a sad day for snooker.
