@bnmuzic I don't think it's wrong. For me I can't feel my playing as well when using a shoulder rest, my plastic Mach One, but unfortunately it is much more comfortable with it. Thus I only use my shoulder rest for practice and during performance I almost never use it. Therefore my opinion would be that it makes perfect sense to teach your students to use a shoulder rest as it is more comfortable and with less strain, keeps them interested so that neck pain won't be hindering their learning.
