Glaives aren’t as popular as swords but they are coded soooo much better. Glaives lock on and are strong in all content. Swords just can’t lock onto a target consistently.

The biggest reason swords are popular is movement, which glaives obviously don't have. And not locking on? You literally have to look up to NOT lock on to a thrall thats at a 100 degree angle from you

I love using glaives! I have amounted over 50k on vexcalibur alone! Hahahah. It just feels so good to play with them, I love the shield and how I can aggro and absord dmg for my team. I used to play Overwatch so I'm always trying to add more value to my team in a supportive way. Coincidently I've just uploaded a video soloing this exact GM with Rake angle and Winterbite as well. But on prismatic titan using diamond lances with consecration. It's just a blast to play with glaives if you like melee oriented builds and feeling like a tank/paladin/lancer. Have to add that you are one of the few content creators that ACTUALLY understand glaives and I LOVE to see you play, you just got the playstyle needed for it. I feel that most people struggle because they can't play agressive. Glaives create this protection required for you to learn how to be agressive. What I recommend is just start with strikes/nightfalls and push your confidence forward! Great video!! Thanks so much for sharing!

I just wish i could use powered melee while holding the glaive, cuz rn running a glaive in certain builds creates negative synergy and makes everything more clunky, so im forced to build around the glaive making them more niche than id like them to be.

glaives are fantastic, especially for solo dungeon type encounters on warlock with karinstein armlets (absolutely slept on exotic, tbh), i used one for my solo flawless vespers on final boss for the inside sections and it’s absolutely perfect for aggressive play and staying alive. rake angle has really opened up a lot of loadout options for me, being able to run sunshot/graviton now is fantastic, and it pairs perfectly with chill inhibitor. im curious how the rework to them will change them through, i do feel they have a learning curve and take time to get used to but id love to see the greater destiny community finally realize their potential.

Try vexcalibur, block right before a melee kill and you get restoration, boosted melee damage and overshield.

I used karnstien and glaves to farm the first encounter of the prophecy dungeon, and it was ridiculous how easy it was.

Even if you hate glaives the rake is better than a chill clip fusion rifle and you have a shield. Just use it for that and you'll be happy. For me I love it and it's been glued to my kinetic slot since I got one. I can't even count the situations that I was able to handle just because I had the glaive on. Getting rushed by a high health target? Just raise the shield and freeze it. Some trash mobs sneak up behind you? Just turn on them and stand your ground. Got a teammate down and half a dozen things are shooting their ghost? Just revive from behind the shield and you're good to go!

my only issue with glaives is that the glaive melee has no synergy with armor mods, and next to no synergy with weapon perks. Like a sword counts as a weapon and procs weapon perks, but doesn't count as a melee. A glaive melee counts as a melee and doesn't proc weapon perks, but it also doesn't proc 90% of melee perks. They really standardized a lot of buildcrafting since lightfall with surges and exotic synergy and it's really easy to look at a build and see what makes sense, but for glaives you really have to dive into the weeds to find out what does and doesn't work

Very true. One thing they do do is the glaive melee counts as primary weapon kills towards heavy ammo haha the more you know. Who knows if this will change though

It used to be the a sword with no ammo counted for stuff it shouldn't have like some old bugs with abusing synthoceps and stuff like that but past that sword kills are separate from melee kills as stupid as that is.

I’m pretty sure the Glaive melee also counts as kinetic primary damage so it procs ammo finders faster, which helps with the ammo economy even more.

My go to for warlock is the class item with Spirit of Necrotic and Synthos. For survivability, Karnsteins plus Vexcalibur is very solid.

@@LambentVtry worm gods caress and Vexcaliber on void Titan. Use offensive bulwark for grenade regen and the extra melee (glaive) damage, and bastion for when you need to kickstart Vexcaliber. For Aspects, use Echoes of leeching,persistence,starvation and undermining. With all the stacking melee damage it’s actually quite potent even against mini bosses. Bosses points for tossing a weaken grenade at the chunky boys.

YESS!!! Especially with rake angle out, glaives are so damn strong. They definitely take a more defensive mindset to make them work, but you are damn near invincible if you know how to use them

Glave shield has made so many master dungeon or tough gms much easier to get through. Its so strong and with the replenishing aegis perk its just chefs kiss.

Rake angle has re-ignited my love for glaives. Been using it, and vexcalibur quite frequently and have been absolutely loving it. Been pairing vexcalibur with void titan using unbreakable and it’s been a lot of fun to play the “tank” role. I’m excited to see what updates they have cooked up for glaives

My only issue with Glaives & Swords are you can't use your powered melee without switching off them to activate it. I hope the rework allows for powered melee with melee weapon usage without swapping. Does anyone know why we're limited in the first place?

a fun build is strand titan with banner of war and worm gods, you get ready access to woven mail plus banner . its really easy to build up max stacks which will give the highest glaive melee damage increase in the game capping out at i think 200 percent and watch everything die. drop on edge of action for overshields and a whopping 95 shield duration !!!!!! (plus it lets u apply a catchy build name like "Banner of Action") . all the exotic glaives need a few QOL improvements and maybe a health bump for the mini ward going from 8000 to 2400 health was a bit brutal and some exotic catalysts .

I like to use glaives in certain situations. I used them to solo flawless the last two dungeons. I used a glaive to block exploding shanks (if one happened to slip by) in Vesper and to capture totems in Warlord's. While neither situation nessisarily calls for a glaive, having that massive DR on demand certainly helped save my solo flawless vesper for sure.

Void subclass is most synergistic with glaives, aspects amd fragments work evwn on prismatic. Also karnstein glaive builds are one of my faves as they work together great, also necrotic works too. This is all with regular glaive melee btw, check it out it's alot of fun.

Fighting Lion + Rake Angle with Chill clip is my favorite combo. I run spirit of inmost light + synthoceps on lightning surge. I like using vortex nades as crowd control for setting up melee spam and consolidating a group to apply volatile. Glaive melee does reload fighting lion!

I have always loved glaives. I always tell my friends how good they are but they don’t believe me. My favorite is nezerecs whisper w/ demo and frenzy. That’s slot may have been taken by the new chill clip glaive

Glaives dont have flashing lights on them so it puts people off. They are literally a sword in your energy slot with a mini shield. We have ergo sum but thats an exotic.

I don't like swords and glaives because they are melee-based weapons, but I love the glaive for it's defensive properties. (If my sword isn't Slammer with cold steel and eager edge or Lament, I don't use it anymore). I've always told my fireteam that glaives are "rifles with a bayonet and a shield", and not "gunblades". They're SO good with tracking and ammo efficiency, it's criminal that I don't use them as often

I relised recently their potential and now use it w karenstien and vexcalibur to spam overshield and restoration, while further booking melee damage. Great for vespers final boss survivability and to save ammo for boss w double special. Shield also turns the snipers from run enders to a joke.

This is a weapon archetype that needs lots of love from Bungie (bows as well). If projectiles have much faster speed and better tracking, they can become viable options in more situations. Too niche for now.

If you're looking for other exotics to boost your survivability pick carnstein armlets on warlock. The restoration makes it so much less likely to be overly greedy.

"Just bust one out and start using it" 4 steps ahead of you. Dumb joke aside I really hope the glaive changes includes having a way to buildcraft by tying more melee mods to the Glaive Melee. Either they make it tie into the normal melee (maybe reduced effect) or they add some new charged melee option for it either tied to the Glaive itself or allowing you to use your own charged melee. It's really the only thing preventing me from using Glaives more often is because there's not much buildcrafting I can do with them due to that mod and fragment synergy loss on it's melee. That said: Cursed Thrall is one of my favorite origin traits and Glaive melees do count as a melee hit for that perk. So if you have any Cursed Thrall weapons and a Glaive in the other slot it's pretty amazing. Had a Vexcalibur build with Swordbreaker and it did amazingly as you top yourself off with Void Overshield and then go in for damage with the shotty.

Video could've done a bit better 'Information presentation'-wise, but here's the main things I wanted to say. I think some of the bigger benefits of glaves are already well-known (e.g. Insane DR, unlimited melee, etc...) but I just think that the main reason they aren't popular are used often are because of all the drawbacks that are hard to ignore. Like swords, they lockout ur melee, but let's ignore that one for now. One of my biggest personal gripes is how the glave melee has almost no interactions with anything. Can't make orbs with ANY siphon mods, doesn't work with ANY melee mods (orbs, melee dmg for other ability regen mods), majority of perks have NO interaction with melee (e.g. swashbuckler or surrounded don't buff melee, etc...), majority of subclass effects that affect certain weapons or physical melee almost never apply to glave melee (e.g. arc fragment beacons, titan offensive bulwark)... Honestly the list could keep going. I love buildcrafting, it's my main join in this game. But when it comes to glaves, there's so many things that they don't function with, that it feels like if I decide to use a glave, I'm literally NOT ALLOWED to use ANYTHING else. And when the game is ever-expanding what's possible with our powers and with our builds, It's a huge buzzkill for dynamic gameplay and creative thinking. Every time I think of something to do with a glave, I get shutdown by the fact that, in practice, it never functions how I'd like it to, if at all.

Honestly I love Glaives but sometimes I feel like you need to solely make a build around your Glaives, which to some people can be a turn-off since people like build flexibility, and there’s only a handful of effective Glaives builds in higher end content. Vesper of Radius and Nezarec's Whisper was my favorite build back in the pirate season. Easily cleared GM's with it, though you have to think about your positioning way more than usual.

Glaives are awesome, but the one thing i really really really dislike is how (and im sure others have pointed it out plenty of times) you cannot use your melee ability while holding it, so if i want to throw a knife or shuriken or strand spike i have to swap to a gun first, and it ruins the flow and pretty much kills the entire weapon for me. Really hoping that the rework is gonna allow you to have a glaive on and still use your melee abilities.

I love using glaives, especially edge of concurrence in pvp and winterbite in pve, but my biggest problem has always been survivability in endgame. Exploding units, knights, legionaries, and captains with shotguns, stomp attacks from multiple sources at once, it all just instakills at master or above if I try to melee (which is the main reason I want to use glaives). Feels lame to be tearing through stuff with a blade on a stick and then have to stop dead in my tracks because a barrier knight exists. Been experimenting and searching for a way to keep a consistent but fast battle tempo for a while now, and it doesn’t seem possible with glaives in their current form and shotgun/exploder enemies as powerful as they are.

my problem with glaives is it does not play well with my custom keybinds. The keys I have binded for melee work for one off presses, but is clunky to spam. I don't feel like changing my keybinds just to use one weapon. It would be nice if I could keybind them separately.

What I hate about glaives is having to deal with Melee keybinds. For some reason even tho powered melee is NOT able to be used with them, you can only do continuous melee's if using the unpowered melee keybind. so while for 99% of the game it's better to have them split, you have to readjust your keybinds anytime you feel like using glaives. It's dumb.

Glaives are in a very awkward place in the sandbox because it’s hard to justify a glaive for “tanking” when the meta game of Destiny has shifted more towards “dead things deal no damage”. You’re trading good damage and potentially stronger add clear on something like a rocket sidearm for some small support benefits and personal defensive potential. In fireteams that aren’t optimized well, Glaives perform fine because the shield might prove necessary. However survivability is at an all time high in Destiny, as is add clear and burst damage. It’s hard to justify an on demand 95% DR shield if the trade off is a loss of damage or access to other components in the game. As it is right now, Rake Angle is the best choice because it brings genuine utility and even build potential to the archetype that didn’t exist previously. I also think glaives are best suited to double special loadouts paired with stuff like rocket sidearms, Choir of One, or Buried Bloodline. In these types of loadouts you’re not really sacrificing any potential and you’re taking advantage of the ammo efficiency of all the weapons involved.
