I think , you will understand it immediately if lyrics are relatable. I listed to this song a lot , but today I heard it again in a different state of mind and with new experience of loss which made me relate to every single line she wrote. So, it's okay to not get everything in first time, once you understand how she feels , it all start making sense.

IU is like the most successful solo artist in South Korea ever, no joke, every song she releases gets massive attention, sales and just overall outstanding accomplishes, she's without a doubt even bigger than BTS in SK and rightfully so. She is such an amazing songwriter and very prolific, she writes almost every song, if not all songs, she releases, so she has gained a reputation by herself as an emotional and poetic lyricist! She's very much loved by the general public in SK, but of course not everything is perfect, so she has gone through a lot as well.

The first time I saw the 8 video I exclaimed "OMG, she's dressed like Sulli!" IU is dressed the way her friend Sulli used to dress, far different from her own style. Se even recreates the infamous Sulli instragram photo (lying on the floor) where Sulli was bombarded with savage hate comments for, of all things, not wearing a bra.

I've been a kpop fans for years, and honestly BTS and IU are a cut above the rest. She's been in the game for over 10 years, and succeeded without an idol group. Not all groups/soloists get that deep with their lyrics, both BTS and IU write their own lyrics and are heavily involved in the production of their albums, so they are top tier for a reason. Within Korean, IU is the only one that can compete with BTS, so this collab was *chefs kiss*

Thank you for this reaction. I cried again watching this video. Its very heartbreaking to relive those dark years in K-music history. Its very much alright to miss out on things. Even we watch the mvs many times to get the full picture. Also regarding BTS related explain videos, ARMY will guide you to the right ones. Just follow their suggestions. DKDKTV is very good for more exposure on Korean culture. Only this guy, David Kim, is trusted more by the ARMYs.

Dont worry, not every kpop artist is, or are as deep as IU or BTS. There is a few others who also write and put everything into their music but for the most part kpop groups are made to be watched and listened to as a whole experience, with not much more than yes pretty colors and pretty songs to have fun with. So dont feel bad about diving down and deciphering every lyric and moment. I've listened to Korean music just about 11 years now and have had favorite groups from just about every company there is. Artists like BTS and IU are rare.

I see many already told you of IU. I'm not a fan of her (she has very good songs!), but her status in Korea is indisputable. She gets called "Korea's little sister", so I think you can get pretty much Koreans attitude towards her out of that name alone. She's probably the only celebrity in Korea that can actually compete (and beat) bts. I have heard that she is very involved with her own music, writing & producing (if i remember correctly, Eight was pretty much completely made by IU and Suga alone), so i already have a lot of respect for her as an artist. I also think IU and bts have a lot in common, besides the actual participating in their songs, they also truly use their music to tell their story in a very poetic way (which is probably also why so many people relate to and love them both so much) What i LOVED so much about this song is exactly what you said from your first reaction: the disparity between the vibrant, exciting (hopeful?) melody & the yet dark, lonely, sad vibes you get from it. You just feel there is more to this song, even without needing/understanding the lyrics. It's so beautiful, but so sorrowful. IU and Suga did an amazing job with the song! ps; DKDKTV is indeed a very very good channel for explaination of korean song meanings! pps: don't ever feel bad about missing things in (bts) songs/MV's, often a lot of meaning is in objects & words that only people with a vast knowledge about the artist will notice. Thank you for actually taking the time and trying to understand what the artist wanted to (discretely) get across.

Welcome to the world of IU I hope you take the journey of discovering this remarkable talent. Not only is she one one the best vocalist in the world today she is also a song writer having written most of her own songs since 2014, a composer, an outstanding award winning actress, and an award winning model for Gucci, New Balance and others. But she is even more than that. If you take this journey you will discover there are Angels amongst us. One point regarding the Eight MV. The girl in the White dress is Sulli. Her closest friend of the three that died. Nothing in an IU MV is there by chance, everything has a meaning and or contributes to the story. IU is also famous for connecting her videos through images and props that connect 2 or more songs continuing story lines or messages etc. One that is most impressive to me are her 2011MV You & I which a time machine is set for the date of Dec 31 2019. Then in Nov of 2019 she releases the song Above the Time where the story continues. I have provided links below for these 2 MV's plus her MV BBIBBI where takes on hate commenters directly, people wondered if it was a risk in doing such a song w/o coming off in a bad light, but this IU after all. The leat last link is of her concert performance in 2019 after hearing about Goo Hara. It the last song of her encore and it is the most difficult song for her to sing. The song came out last year and a few months after my best friend also commited suicide. I asked him the same question as IU asked her friends in a message i sent him as his mobile number was still working. Now even that is dead... Can't hear this song without crying 🥺 About all the messages you missed, you don't need to be mad about it. I think, that is bound to happen, if you listen to a genuine artist, who writes their own lyrics. I think of the the process of writing a song as something, where the artist can sort their feelings out and bring it into the lyrics. It's like they share a little bit of themself with us listeners und many can relate to that and understand. And if i don't get that feeling while listening to a song, then something is wrong for me. That is, why i really love BTS and don't like KPop in general. Most (not all) of them have in-house writers and just sing, what they have to. There is no genuine feeling into that. I like it, when i know where the words are from and that they really mean something. I mean, there is nothing wrong with using writers, BTS also have them, but your own identity has to be in it, to be good. Just like JKs cover of "falling" recently, you can hear the emotions and that makes it meaningful...

Man I was putting off watching this bc I knew I will cry and yeT here I am ;_; there is just such a flood of emotions with this song. Honestly I was late to the kpop scene so I didn't really know the artists and feel THAT sad when hearing about their passing (I was sad ofc, bc it's just a shitty thing to happen) but this song really just showed how the people who really knew those who had passed felt and really made me feel all the raw emotion she must have felt. + the way I understood the "dancing without shadows" lyrics is that they are just enjoying the warmth of the sun without any looming darkness. And yeah, don't beat yourself up over not getting every nuance, you're bringing your own perspective and experience in music production to interpret the songs you listen to and that's valuable!

about the “dancing without shadows” part in the lyrics, i always took it as shadows represents the consequences of fame and the many struggles and strifes that they went through. So in her memories - there’s only happiness and the orange sun. Because when you are remembering the deceased, you only really ever want to remember the happy moments, but I guess in a way due to the IU’s (and suga’s) high profile life style it is much harder to grieve when your relationships with people are aired out to the public. That’s why I think that even in her memories there’s a sense of unease - from the turbulence of the airplane to the panicked searching of the lizard. But yeah, thank you for the reaction! Don’t worry too much about getting the meaning from your first watch. Generally with kpop mvs they go into a lot of depth and symbolism and sometimes (especially for this one) context is needed. Usually I would have to watch the mv several times to see everything in the mv. I think when reacting to mvs, watching it once for the video itself and once for lyrics should be fine.
@herohearts19193 жыл бұрын
Oh definitely don't feel bad about missing things 💜 This era of kpop specializes in incredibly intricate videos which utilize clothes, sets, makeup, hair, nails, basically every inch of what we see, in order to tell their story. It's not uncommon to find something new every time you watch an MV! Some companies do it with more intensity than others, and IU has always been known to be really into this in her videos. I think, in part, because she so often speaks from her own experience and journey, so it's easy to know it better than anyone. This breakdown is so deep and complex because he's very familiar with IU's history and musicality already and knows all the rumors/stories/kmedia attention in addition. The more you learn about the artists, the clearer some things become with the mvs~

How would you possibly be able to know? These resources really do help so much though to be able to see what was missed in mvs or in literally translation of lyrics. Literal translations in some songs lose a lot of meaning because it doesn’t translate so easily or one word could have multiple meanings especially I raps, but thankfully the resources do the word for us in explaining! I know the artists that work hard on giving out a message appreciate the more in depth research but in digging deeper don’t lose the love for just listening … we all know it’s a lot and had to have the growing pains of learning how to digest all of this too! 2 things - Not everything from Korea is “kpop”. I don’t think I would consider her kpop per se. That’s the issue with that label. Everything gets thrown in. She is a serious artist. Massive in Korea. Very well known and loved. - about dkdktv. They make some good videos. The guy in this video specifically I don’t mind. But the other guy is very hostile towards army. Just FYI. Multiple times he has expressed that they need to get out of the way to give other acts a chance. And of course we took issue with that. Being that bts deserves rightly the spot and success they have. They were always pushed down. Even now that they are super successful people still want them to move aside and it did not sit well with us. But some of their videos are informative. Just giving you an overview so you don’t go in blind Otherwise, yea. This is a beautiful sad song. I love that she reached out to Yoongi for this song. She said the process was very smooth. One of the best collaborators. Yoongi is very good with deep emotional music. I love that about him so much

You had no point of reference to understand what you were seeing, you picked up on the fact that it was a sad song when it had an upbeat sound & I think that matters. I've been into kpop for a little over 10 yrs. One of my ultimate bias groups is f(x), Sulli was a member & I adore her. I don't consider myself a shawol, but Jonghyun was & will always be my bias in Shinee. And Hara, while I wasn't as familiar with her, was a member of KARA whose songs are still on my main playlist all these years later. When this video first came out, I immediately thought it was about them. I sobbed my way though it & it took a long time for me to be able to listen to it/watch it without crying. Jonghyun struggled with depression. Sulli & Hara were viciously attacked endlessly for not behaving the way netizens/society wanted. They weren't protected.

KPOP songs and mv's are more meaningful than those from US and UK. No disrespect meant, just stating facts. They're loaded with metaphors and symbolisms. This is one reason many are attracted to KPop music. They're deeper.

I want you to react a song 'ugh' by BTS. It also have dkdktv's explanation video. And deal with similar topic about mean comments towards kpop artists or everyone. It's a bop also.

Don't feel sorry, how could you have known? But also we shouldn't feel prejudiced against an artist because of a "pretty face and bright colors" shouldn't we? ;-) others have already commented, so I am just going to add that SUGA also produced this song.

And you still didn't made the DKDKTV explanation of BTS's song - "Paldogansan" ... And you said couple weeks ago that you will do it soon.. At this point you probably don't even remember what song it is.. o.o PS: sound design? well, advice for future - sound design is the least where you need to focus, at least on BTS's songs. The LYRICS are the most important. THEN the VISUALS and hiding meaning of it on the MVs. Sound design is just a bonus that you can appreciate without much attention. All the interesting and important are on lyrics and visuals.

its okay if you dont get the symbolisms ( there are explanations for that) .. as long as you enjoy the music.

It'd be nice if you could also check out explanation videos to BTS Fake Love, Spring Day, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Idol, DNA, and many others, also by DKDKTV and other Koreans. There's more to them than you'd think at first. I'd look forward to your reactions. Thanks in advance,

It's okay that you weren't aware of the context I mean there was no possible way you could know since you've only recently got into Kpop and you'd have to know IU and the people involved to get the song on first listen

If you want to check out more of IU acting and a legendary music group that inspired BTS. Try 'Lovedrunk' MV by Epik-High. Beautiful music, MV, acting, deep lyrics. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ami5q2Cmqd5-mLM

I know this is not the time to say this, but the more I get into listening to kpop artists with purpose, the more I realize how much senseless music we are listening over in the west. At this point, only Adele,Ed sheeran, and a few others are making music with purpose, stories and emotions,

We don't tell you to watch explainer videos for no reason.

The whole reason for explanation videos is this stuff is too much for any one person to figure out. We suggest reactors to watch them because it’s often more than will fit in a comment. We don’t expect you to know it all just be curious.

Don’t want to argue. But the prediction says, after considering the voting scores, BTS will also have high chance to win MMA SOTY and Artist of the year... Not like MAMA the gap between BTS and the second is too huge. unnecessary to provide false information here.
