She wrote the song dedicated to those who's facing many problems and hoping that they won't lose hope in life like what happened to her friends whom she loves so dearly. She lost 2 of her dearest friends who both committed suicide, the other was on 2017 and the other one was on this year and she released this song after the burial of her friend who died this year. The song "eight ft. Suga" was dedicated to her 2 friends who died, the dragon and lady in white.

Although many people infered that eight was dedicated to her two friends. IU has stated that the song Eight is about life moving on too fast. She tried to encompass how fast childhood slipped away from our hands. I just thought I should clarify because the artist has already made a statement about the song.

@Melody Bernard Not on this Live Clip but in her concert. She is hurt already by the news that Sulli is gone & on her 2nd day of Seoul 2019 Love Poem Concert she heard the news about Goo Hara. She had a hard time but she still finish that long concert. UAENAS sing for her to comfort her.
