i read that the meaning is that IU is deaf and V is blind in one eye and the cube represents society wanting to get rid of all of those that are disabled/not "normal". when they look through the camcorder they can see themselves as society wishes them to be and so they live in this fantasy land until the cube eventually comes for them in the end. IU covers V's one good eye so he doesn't have to watch whats going to happen to them. and in the end, their clothes are all that is left and it gets added to the pile of all those that society has "gotten rid of" before them. this MV gives me chills!!

Actually he started in BTS and was offered the part while in BTS. They killed his character because he couldn’t keep up with both schedules and had to give up on. But yes, he has acted in the past.

Thanks for your lovely reaction. IU’s character is deaf and Taehyung’s one eye is blind. That’s why she uses sign language when they’re eating. In the end she closes the good eye when the cube found them because she didn’t want him to see the inevitable happen to them. It just feels like you are watching a movie. Director Um Tae-hwa on the significance of the camcorder: “In the world of the camcorder, they look neat rather than messy like in reality, eat beautifully prepared delicious food and enjoy the happiness they could have only imagined while wearing shiny dresses and tuxedos”

I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

I found it a very Cinematic MV, everything was in it, A Thriller, wholesome romance, beautiful voice, great music, Director did such a wonderful job bringing it all together, cast with beautiful visuals and acting talents, so good you’re pulled into their lives and story. There are many metaphors that can apply. If you were to watch it a couple of times, I’m sure you could come up with different storylines. I heard all kinds of theories, everything starting with that CUBE.

The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are now.

The pile of clothes has a deeper meaning. Originally Christian Boltanski built a pile of clothes with small piles of clothes around it and with a crane that would slowly pick up the clothes from the smaller pile and add it to the bigger one. The big pile of clothes illustrates the heaviness of all the hearts now lost. Every article of clothing symbolizes one person who died. So in the music video the clothes represent all the people who have died, that after we are gone we are all just a pile of clothes. Christian says "When the clothes are falling down its very optimistic. Like souls, they are free". So for me that makes the ending so much more profound.

1. I don't think IU is necessarily deaf as people been saying. They been hiding/escaping for some time (there's spiderwebs everywhere) and cannot talk so they don't get caught. Therefore they might developed some sort of communication by signs. 2. What does cameras do? They capture beautiful moments and I think that's what it's shown here, they're seeing their past beautiful moments. 3. In their memories we see black shadows or figures instead of people because in your memories you don't remember the people or strangers that are around.

If it was past, why would they see each other enjoying the food, and feel as if they are eating it.. , it's likely an alternate perfect reality.. 3. I think its just showing even if you are perfect, there will still be haters and people who are jealous of you, so the best is to just ignore them and do what you want, like they did.

The cube represents society’s oppression against disables and imperfect people. Its aim is to rid the world of them. In the video, Taehyungs character can’t see in one eye…the blue one and IU is deaf and mute, which is why she is using sign language. The pictures, while taken in the same poses as they were seem a bit different like they represent their actual wedding. In the end the cube destroys them, but their love brought them through the worst and they were together to the end and their souls are now free and together. I can’t watch the video without crying, especially with the tears they drop out of the same eye.

I view this as social commentary in South Korea where young people aren’t getting married and having children because abuse the economy and social pressures (the cube) are destroying them.
