IU (Prod. & Feat. SUGA of BTS): "Eight" Reaction

"Are you happy?" from the beginning of the music video is IU asking her friends. It means "Are you happy and not hard anymore there?" And "Happy?" at the end of the music video is asking the haters who killed her friends. "My friends left because of your bad comments. Are you happy now?" That's why IU's smile disappears when the lyrics "Are you happy?" comes out at the end😭 *For your information, among IU's friends, Jonghyun of SHINee was close to the BTS members. So all the members of BTS attended his funeral. (I'm sorry if my English is weird. I am Korean. I am using a translator because I am not good at English🙏)

After the passing of Jonghyun, Sulli, and Hara (from Kara) I was definitely worried for IU and Taeyeon (from girls generation). Both of them were very close with those 3 so I was just…I was very worried. Can’t imagine how hard it was for them but I’m glad they’re still here and made it through back to back to back grievances.

There are actually 3 friends, the two you mentioned and the 3rd is Goo Hare who died about 30 days after Sulli in the fall of 2019. In fact IU found out about Goo's death during her Seoul concert and she had a difficult time finishing the concert. Goo was also identified with a lizard by way of her nick name and she represented by the live lizard who disappears during the MV. And there is so much more to this video, as there is with all IU videos. The song is upbeat, because IU wanted it to be a celebration of life and not be sad, at the same time as it deals with her struggles in dealing with their parting. IU meet Sulli 8 years before her death. So the title 8 has many meanings, 8 being her and Suga's age of 28, 8 turned sideways being the infinite symbol and 8 being the number of years she and Sulli had been close friends. IU even had Sulli in her Kdrama Hotel Del Luna. The animation with IU is 3d and that with Sulli is 2d. This represents the different worlds they now inhabit. IU has not had a concert since 2019, although she will become the 1st solo artist to perform at the Olympic stadium in Seoul on Sept 17th and 18th. The 95,000 tickets sold out in 30 minutes with almost half a million in the que. IU has performed Eigth live. There is an acoustic version she performed on 1 the K and she also has performed it on several music shows. She is going to open her concert with it as well, as the concert is scheduled to start just before sunset has the sun turns orange. IU is a rare talent in that she actually sounds better live. If you haven't checked out her songs and performances I strongly recommend that you do so. There is more to IU than the sum of her talents, she has a special soul that anyone who has invested anytime in listening to her songs and watching her performance are always taken with. IU kdramas currently available on Netflix include Hotel Del Luna, My Mister and Persona. She was recruited by the Japanese director for his film Broker, because he saw her in My Mister, that was shown at Canne Flim Festival and recieved a 12 minute ovation. She is a singer and actress as you mentioned, she is also a song writer, since 2014 she virtually all her own songs, she also composes and produces them. She has won Sing Writer of the Year twice and Song and Album of the Year a number of times. She is also a model and has recently been name Global Ambassador for GUCCI. She is listed as the wealthiest female kpop artist in South Korea. In 2018 the New York had a article about how music influences culture and they listed the top 25 artist. IU was listed 9th on their ranking.

It has exceptionally poetic lyrics in bringing us through how a year without a loved one may feel like. There’s no music video but there is a live clip performance. IU is an amazing artist, eight is a beautiful song, the message she gives to her friends, the way she does it. And it's a beautiful feat with Suga and he also produced the song, it's a song that at the same time makes you sad, makes you have memories, and good times, the vibe brings that feeling, it's amazing. Hope you give more reactions to IU she's one of my favorite kpop artists, she's the princess of korea, she's an amazing artist.

You can see at the end where IU is looking at you, then she smiles just a weeee bit, & then that smile goes away. Her face now looks more slightly pensive, slightly worried & slightly sad, much like how you remember a happy memory for a couple seconds & then you next remember where you are, in the here & now, where it may not be so happy as it once was. Just my interpretation. That's how I sometimes feel when I think about my dad, who passed away a few years ago, yet I remember my memories of him, such as only 15 years ago. Our surviving family also had to clean out & sell the property of my dad's business, so I took as many home videos & still photos of that place, while we were cleaning it out over the course of 3 years, because I also worked there for 3 decades, off & on, so I know every nook & cranny of that place & remember not only myself walking those rooms & hallways, but also my dad walking around there. We finally left & sold it by end of 2020. We have not looked inside that place since & the new owner had already did lots of renovations, inside & out. I took some small pieces of counter space with me as a reminder. I will rewatch those videos & photos I did every now & again, of the original look of the building (inside & outside), but also the home videos my dad took 30 through 20 years ago of that place. Home videos & still photos help reinforce our own hazy brain memories, which we lose those memories little by little as time goes by, if we didn't have videos & photos. A mind memory-download machine like that in the music video would be cool, if that's what indeed it is.

many said bts ugh is also connected as it was released in feb of 2020 before the collab was announced and it felt like they addressed this in that song. i suggest reacting to both ugh explained by dkdktv and eight explained by dkdktv to understand better. also i do believe bts were close with Jonghyun as they attended his funeral so that couldve also been a reason why suga collabed for this song.

it's really upsetting because sulli has been in this industry even before she was an idol. nobody protected her. there needs to be some sort of protection for these idols that start off so young and have such young minds. the standards they have to uphold, the hate they're hearing. i miss jonghyun and sulli greatly. the time of 2017 was so hard, but there was still hope. please please react to more iu. reacting to a guide of her would really help too. she's an incredible person. i would recc watching one of her more recent kdama, hotel del luna. it has an incredible story, incredible acting, amazing characters, and IU just really shines in this kdrama. i would love to see you guys react to it.

As a Shawol, when I found out Jonghyun had passed I was devastated! Both were beautiful souls who had left this world too soon. 😔 BTS also attended Jonghyun's wake as well. This song is such a beautiful tribute to two very special Angels. 💙💙

The shockwaves both Jonghyun and Sulli’s deaths caused was visceral (and Hara taking her life 1 month after Sulli). Bawled my eyes out those days. The only positive from their passings was definitely the Sulli Act which legislators pushed very hard for to make the consequences for cyberbullying more impactful.

IU actually wrote a lot of songs that revolves around death or depression..like her song 'Winter Sleep' is a song that she wrote the lyrics and composed which talks about the cycle of life and death. This song tells the story of the first year (4 seasons) after losing a loved family, friend, and companion animal. IU said in the song description that she completed this song after she experienced several goodbyes.
