all I can say is more and more I get why Drake and Kanye are compared against each other despite being different artists, cause both can be the biggest rappers in the world while still making music for a younger audience despite aging. Cause when you realise Kanye is 20 years into his career and teenagers are so into him, you realise the advantage an artist has when they stay tapped into the younger culture

especially it’s very uncommon for a kanye type of artist to exist, cause he’s a rapper from 20 years ago still outselling majority of rappers. You can’t name another rapper in his position that is as relevant today

I saw Drake in Toronto for both shows and felt I was an old ass with all youth surrounding me, knew lyrics for every. Single. Song. Both Kanye and Drake have similar storylines to their music, album to album.. but I’m still into them.

There's nothing wrong with making music for the younger crowd... The problem is that Drake isn't holding himself to any standard, he's just dropping project after project and most of the songs on them are mediocre at best

drake is the type of artist our kids will look at in 20 years and wish they lived in the same time as him. the same way a song from the 90s like candy can still be played today is what will happen to Drake, feel good songs always age well, due to nostalgia, hence why we love the 90s a decade we deem as a great time to live in, but people during that decade probably didn’t think too much about a lot of artists or also thought music was falling off, whether it be white people being foreign to rap or old heads thinking rock was falling off, history will repeat

I think this whole drake thing is defo exaggerated because its drake... dude has been winning so long niggas cant handle it any more. Jay z made 4:44 when he was 47 let that sink in...He has time to evolve the dude is a 36 year old bachelor. He gets unfairly criticised in my opinion if he aint soft, he is guy, sassy, weak, emotional, pop star, cant rap, actor, fake thug lol. Lets enjoy him because there will not be another drake.

I think younger crowd confuses hating with critique. For someone like myself who grew up and fell inlove with his music and identified heavily with the subject matters he talked about as I was a teen/early 20s in the beginning of his career he meant a lot to me. I was a superfan. But seeing where he is now and what he focused his music on and what we thought he would evolve to its a complete mind fuck to see a guy as introspective, self aware, and honest as Drake turn into a guy obsessed about how rich he is and how he's sleeping with a whole bunch of women at age 37, how tough he is, and also he can reach the level of self awareness and emotion that he had before is just very disappointing. Compared to other rappers i listened to who focused on mindless bullshit I thought he would age with us gracefully whilst not completely compromising what made him, him and just build his own musical world like what a Taylor Swift and The Weeknd were able to do over time. Like we understand money and fame changes you. But I and many others didn't think Drake trying to remain relevant and hip to the youth would overhaul his personality and music to fit in with a demographic 15-20 years younger than him. The music that he puts out now does not fit much of how we live as adults and that's okay. But us older fans are starting to realize that we might have to let him go musically because he doesnt represent us anymore. It's painful but that's where most of the shit is coming from.

lol get your own life buddy, your expectations for someone else is your own mistake you disappointed yourself lol . This generation is a generation of people who watch other people react to music before forming an opinion lol your opinion/critique aren’t genuinely valid it’s heavily influenced by music critics and reviewers. Your comment is just a regurgitation of popular opinion circulating in media. Musical world like taylor swift and weekend ? Lol it’s delusional to think drake hasn’t done that. Let him go ? 😂You want “mature” music lol go listen to black thought , jay electronica , nas etc

Why can’t gen Z think? Y’all are always using like one of three words: hate, mid, facts, whatever. Dude millions of people have hated Drake SINCE he came out. You think him pretending to be a million different people is new? Dude has been a poser for 15 years and plenty of hip hop fans may have come to tolerate his presence, it doesn’t make them fans.

Drake can do what he pleases but he should remember, his real fan base is between men & women from ages like 25 and up. Drake core fanbase is getting older and I think a lot of fans aren't messing with the new generation of rappers. Keeping up with the times makes sense from a business point of view but with that comes sacrifice and one of those sacrifices is quality

What makes me sad is that kids this young will never know what it’s like for artists to put passion into their music. Talking about numbers and art like they’re the same thing is legit depressing. Imagine how much you would love your favorite artist if they actually put effort in, if they actually cared about you, if they actually talked about the things that mattered to you. That’s what we had before the industry ate our culture and regurgitated this.

I’m in my 30s, I’m a fan of several new artists and their sound, especially if it feels organic and authentic. But something doesn’t feel organic about Drake trying a “young” sound just for the sake of remaining relevant… especially knowing where he came from musically.

I think sonically Drake lost inspiration and puts out because he can. Not because of a particular reason. I also believe he feels a way that with all the social capital he's built, he doesn't have a partner that reflects that. Jay Z has Beyonce, ASAP has Rihanna, even Kanye had Kim Kardashian. There is no reason he'll make music that reflect his legacy when his end goal didn't go as planned. The rollout of Pusha T's song and outing him as a father squashed that moment for him. J Cole got to reveal he was married in his music and even had us fooled on his kids gender. Drake can make a comeback with Joe Buddens audience but time is ticking and they'll desert him if he gives them nothing.

You made a few, very good, not often discussed points. Drake sonically lost inspiration and puts out music because he can, with he can being more like he knows he can continue to make huge profits by churning out soulless, uninspired music that simply follows his formulated, “established”, and still very popular sonic style… The legacy comment, I am here after the beef and I am blown away by the insight and that this aspect was completely overlooked by every single person I saw discuss/break down the beef. You are sooooo right here, his legacy, isn’t/wasn’t when you wrote this, isn’t in the place it should be considering his time in the game, his age, the immense popularity of his songs, he should have by now earned a more highly regarded position/legacy within hip hop but has severely fell short for numerous reasons. On a side note to the legacy thing pertaining to having an enstablished partner. Drake talking about how he had a chain made out of the 24 engagement rings he had purchased, presumably for 24 different women, clearly indicates Drake struggles with interpersonal skills and relationships in general which has definitely been a hinder his “legacy”

My “issue” with Drake is the fact that he could easily and I mean EASILY could pull it off. Like this is the same man that dropped “If you’re reading this” and “Dark Lane Demo Tapes” and called them mixtapes. Dropped “More Life” and called it a playlist and everyone went along with it. Drake could drop a 10-12 track, 30-45 min bar fest of an album, call it a “mixtape” and an “ appetizer” for the next album. Wait 8 months a drop a “typical Drake album” and BOOM he gets his pop rap bag and shuts up the old heads.

I'm just gonna answer the thumbnail He literally has the ability to make music for everybody. And has been doing it for years. But lately, it feels like he is only making music for women and children. And his music hasn't matured with him. The irony is those 2 aren't mutually exclusive. He can make music that's more authentic to him, put effort into his rhymes/rapping, and still appeal to women/ a younger audience. Look at J. Cole.
