Not really- Demidov seems to have good fundamebtals- but people are off their rocker with how much respect they're giving to MHL as a league. Its been described as the hardest league on the planet to "project" out of because the range of talent is stupendous- ranging from elite type players (Demidov) to actual sh*t show talent that would make rather ECHL beam with pride. Demidov projects as a better two way player certainly- but Michkov is playing a two way game in the KHL (maybe the second best pro league going)... and in a leadership role no less (icetime, deployment). To imply that he'll probably end up as a much better two-way defensive guy is a respectable position- but what Gravs saying is absolutely true as of today. All Demidovs two way acumen is basically hypothetical until he proves he can apply it consistently against grown men in a pro league..

I love Demidov so much- but you guys are getting this narrative all wrong. Demidov will be a tremendous player- Datsyukian- a defensively responsible, two way leader who can also dazzle with his offensive wizardry. I could see Demidov being a core piece on a team that contends for a lot of cups. His scoring looks to me like about a ppg player with the odd 90+ season. Michkov WILL surpass 120 more than once. Hes a legit threat to hit two point ls per game at some point. Hes closer in terms of PNHLe to McDavid than he is to Matthews/Mackinnon. His draft year PNHLe was HIGHER than Bedards. If you want to talk about "irl value"- I think Demidov warrants a conversation. I think hes the underdog but I have time for that conversation. In terms of offense/production- which I believe is the slant of this video- it is not even close. Demidov has a chance to be a franchise ayer the way Datsyuk was a franchise player- a stud with moves that make your jaw drop- but not a guy whose top three in scoring at his position most years. MM looking generational and the game is going to be how psycho does he go? What AO did to fantasy hockey a decade or go (he was a cheat code)- McDavid today. His scoring rates are a mirror match for those players. Demidov is a gem but he won't be that. Nailed it grav

Not a Philly fan nor Habs but I think Michkov clears Demidov everyday. He already played 2 seasons in a mens league, played good hockey and had productivity as well whilst Demidov has done those things in a junior league. So it's still questionable if Demidov will be able to transform his skillset in KHL/NHL. Demidov could be Bure 2.0 but also can end up like Zegras. Michkov has already great experiences and he'll be only better player. Not hating, just my honest opinion.

As to to their potential imo Michkov has slightly better pure offensive potential, but to me he is more boom or bust, as i cannot see him being useful with his size and playstyle if he cannot be a goal scorer.

Let me do mine. Offense of Demidov: Floor = 60-80 point top 6 winger. Middle ground = 75-95 point elite winger. Celling = 100-125+ point superstar winger. Offense of Michkov: Floor: 30+ goal 55-70 point goal scoring top 6 winger. Middle ground: 40+ goal 70-90 point PP Cornerstone elite winger. Celling: 50-70 goal 100+ point winger. Michkov has better offense with his ability to score goals using that shot which will give him better numbers with the PP. So Michkov wins there. However. Michkov is a 5'9 170 lbs guy with low defensive effort. You have higher risk of injury and probably just less 5 on 5 production and playoff production. Demidov wont be no Slafkovsky but will be able to hold his own with a great frame at 6'1 200 lbs. You also get more defensive effort from Demidov.

The size thing gets overblown- kids a tank- broad- solidly built, low center of gravity- hes going to be a pain in the ass to play against. I'm a huge Demidov fan but this is bass awkward lol! In terms of fantasy hockkey- getting the scoring asset- this is so far off the only way its worth bringing up is in a playful way. I like the kid- im pretty sure hes going to find his way and be an impact guy- a star player.... Michkov WILL be generational...
@4u2nvHock3y2 ай бұрын
@CharlesWirtz The thing is. If both were 26 in their prime playing PP1 Line 1 minutes a night and got 82 games in the NHL, I believe Michkov will have way more PPG and slightly more goals. But less Assists 5 on t. Points 5 on 5, PPA and PPP. And from what ive seen. That's a direct comparison with McDavid and Matthews. So it makes sense to believe Demidov will be a more reliable. More consistent and even better player whether or not Michkov does score more goals and has a better two way game or not. Another comparison like this is Crosby versus Ovi. I always take Crosby. Or McDavid. Or in this case Demidov. Over the other superstar in Ovi. Matthews or Michkov. Why is Matthews not the best player? Not because his points. It's his success in the playoffs. McDavid also yes has no cups but has been basically the best player of all time in the playoffs and has a Conn Smythe.

We all need to remember in his draft year Michkov was the clear 2nd overall pick behind Bedard the best prospect since Matthews, and ahead of Fantilli and Carlsson. Where Demidov was the clear 2nd overall behind Celebrini who would likely be ranked behind Fantilli and Carlsson had they been in the same draft class. I think Michkov is by a pretty big margin the better player rn that being said I think Demidov will transition to North America better so it will be interesting to see how they pan out over the next 5 years. Ultimately doesnt matter who the better player is rn before theyve even established themselves in North America

Celebrini drafted behind Fantilli and Carlson ?? Celebrini is easily the most COMPLETE and best 200 foot player to be drafted in the last 9 years. He's a better OVERALL player then Bedard just not as offensively gifted, however, has an elite offensive skill set himself. Celebrini is already so polished in his game and is hard pressed to find flaws. Like, you put Fantilli above him who had exactly the same season (PPG), Hoby Baker award while combing less goals and more assists at the age of 18 than Celebrini who did it at 17 with more goals and a balanced point spread ?? And you think he's better? Also, Celebrini > Michkov.. Michkov is in the Demidov conversation, not Celebrini.

Tough call, Grav. I'd say "flip a coin". I'm a Habs fan who really liked/likes Michkov. I commented on a pre-draft video you did where I was concerned about Demidov, primarily due to his injury history. I think it's directly related to that 10-2 skating style he uses. Leaves the legs vulnerable. He has to learn how to protect the legs better while using it. For example, Crosby uses it a lot. But it hasn't led to big problems for him injury-wise. I love Michkov. But now that I've learned more about Demidov as the kind of character he has, I think it will truly be a flip of a coin. There has to be some fire to the smoke that Michkov has some attitude issues. The missing category is mental attitude. Scouts see Michkov as a player who is prone to give up on plays when not in attack mode and cherry pick instead of busting his hump to get back to help in his own zone. Button and MacKenzie both mentioned that as the reason Michkov dropped. Add in he isn't ready to commit to improving that part of his game and intimated he wants a guarantee of first line minutes. That's funny, besides the fact Demidov is a better passer and Michkov a better scorer, the rest is opposite of everything I've read. I though Michkov was the most talented and has the higher upside (although they are both excellent) and that Demidov is the better all around player. I'm surprised you didn't mention the difference in size, 5'10" vs 6'1" (or just shy of..). That two and a half extra inches will certainly help in the NHL. There's also the question of attitude, although I'll admit that's hard to gauge from here and there's so much purposeful misinformation that it's really hard know for sure. Habs have good contacts in the SKA organisation and they clearly didn't like something they saw or heard about Michkov (unless they heard he wasn't interested in the Habs) and liked what they heard about Demidov. That being said, with this type of talent, they should have taken the chance and drafted both.

Everything is relative and works out perfectly IMO: Michkov didn't want to be with the HABS, and Demidov did. Each player is where he is supposed to be. Player development will tell the tale in the end. It should be a good competition.

Michkov. He was ranked above Bedard before getting mono. And, the only reason he didn't go 2nd overall was because he told every team but Philly that he was going to stay in Russia. He asked to be a Flyer. It was the only team he was willing to break his KHL contract for. So......

Oh and please note, Michkov wasn’t said to be the best Russian since Ovi, nor was he compared to Kucherov!

I'm higher on MICHKOV personally. I was the Only person wearing a Michkov jersey at the 2023 Draft last year. But let's be honest; theyre both great, *** but What is the hardest thing to find for an NHL org.? It's a... Pure GOAL Scorer -Not a 200-ft player. *** That = Matvei Michkov ALL day. (P.S. I got to drink champagne out of the Stanley Cup this past week, as my best friend is a mgr w the team -Epic party : ) 😎
@laughingchimp34682 ай бұрын
The answer is actually really complicated. The normie answer is michkov. That's not necessarily wrong either. But there are caveats to that. Michkov imo is all around a more talented player than even Bedard, who I think is a bit overrated. Michkovs game is very cerebral and very individually skilled driven. He plays hero hockey and is quite effective at it. He might be the most individually talented player I've seen since McDavid. With all that said, here is the case for demidov. Demidov is a much more hard working player. This extends to his own end where he actually puts in effort. He'll never be a selke candidate but with the determination in his game, he'll be fine all around and more coach friendly especially come playoff time. Demidov does not have the goal scoring capabilities of michkov but is still very dynamic and a good goal scorer. He's a better playmaker and the skill he has that far surpasses michkov is his hands. They are the best I've seen in a while. He also utilizes his teammates so well and plays way better off puck in the o zone. So again the answer is michkov but demidov will be more team friendly and has a much more translatable game to the NHL. Michkov, imo, will have to change his game to adapt to the NHL. He will be successful in that but it still has to be done. Overall, the gap isn't big enough offensively to overlook all the red flags michkov has. Demidov is a coaches dream. Michkov is a coaches nightmare. But that nightmare is so Uber talented that you just have to put up with his overall game
@DarksideJim2 ай бұрын
Michkov doesn’t even really have red flags. He’s just average at everything. Idk why people keep acting like his defense is borderline unplayable lol. He’ll be fine defensively in the NHL. How many star forwards in the league currently are average or bad at defense? A lot lol

Furthermore, predictions a year from the draft almost always change drastically. He has red flags, but with that kind of talent, you take the chance. I wish my Habs would have. But he's never been a McDavid, Matthews, Jack Hughes, MacKinnon level prospect, and certainly not projected as a top 5 player in the league. That doesn't mean he can't be an amazing player.
