A true master in the way he dealt with light, in the vein of Bierstadt. It's astounding to think that all of this pretty much needed to be painted by memory and repetitive sittings due to shifting light. Phenomenal! I slowed down the playback speed just to get a deeper understanding of his technique and composition.

An interesting fact about Ivan Shishkin. One of his paintings was used to create a wrapper for chocolate candy. Since then, the artist Shishkin has become a favorite of Soviet children :) This painting is called "Morning in a Pine Forest" - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_in_a_Pine_Forest Or 20:10

When it comes to trees, woods, forests and similar landscapes nobody did this better than Ivan Shishkin. Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot was good aswell.dealing with different subjects. Like Eugène Louis Boudin, Ivan Shishkin was the Master in his subject area. 19th Century what an era.

It is a strong powerful gamma of Russian nature. In all of It’s beauty. Shishkin apparently use all his attention to reflect Russian nature and very little people, some times you really have to pay attention to find people on the Shishkin’s canvas ,and he masterful put them whenever they fit, to hi lighten the spirit of the picture

Après avoir passé son enfance dans les régions sauvages de l'Oural et de la Volga, il étudia à l'École de peinture, sculpture et architecture de Moscou pendant quatre années, puis à l'Académie impériale des beaux-arts de Saint-Pétersbourg de 1856 à 1860, dont il sortit avec les plus grands honneurs et une médaille d'or. Cinq ans plus tard, Chichkine devint lui-même membre de cette Académie, puis professeur. Il était par ailleurs professeur à l'École supérieure des arts, spécialisé dans les paysages. C'est d'ailleurs pour ses œuvres de paysages frappant de réalisme et pour sa technique irréprochable qu'il est le plus connu. Pendant un certain temps, Chichkine vécut et travailla auprès du peintre Rudolf Koller à Zurich, en Suisse, puis en Allemagne, et se perfectionna de 1864 à 1865 à l'Académie des beaux-arts de Düsseldorf. À son retour à Saint-Pétersbourg, il devint membre du mouvement des Ambulants et fonda en 1871 la Société des aquarellistes russes. Il prit aussi part à de nombreuses expositions en Russie et à l'étranger, aux Expositions universelles de Paris en 1867 et 1878, et de Vienne 1873. La technique de peinture de Chichkine est fondée sur une étude analytique de la nature et il faisait des recherches approfondies sur tous ses sujets. Il est célèbre pour ses paysages, mais c'est aussi un excellent dessinateur et graveur. Il est enterré au cimetière Tikhvine de Saint-Pétersbourg.

May I ask which New Age pianist you used for this video? I enjoyed the musick very much, and thought it very harmonious with Ivan's landscapes.
