Had the pleasure of training with Dr. H a few times at different seminars and every time was incredible. Guy is a great trainer/decoy unbelievably knowledgeable.

Oh what a blast from the past. Stewart tested the litter my very first SchH dog came from and we trained with him from time to time. Good memories! We visited Lackland AFB once and trained there in their search building.

Some deep thoughts in this one I hadn't thought about. At 63 Mr. Hilliard looks pretty damn good, doing what you love every day ages one slowly.

Another great interview and very informative. Both of you mention issues with gunfire with your working breeds. Maybe a future discussion on this with a Gun Dog trainer since gunfire conditioning is one of the most important parts of training a bird dog.

What a cool conversation. It seems that competing in protection sport at a high level creates such a deep understanding of dog temperament & behavior.

I love the analogy of pressuring ourselves to overcome discomfort, I think for the regular person in the modern world aside from sports is aversive, explaining the importance of this to my kids is difficult, however I believe there certain people that have overcome discomfort more prepared for example to survive a tragic or traumatic situation, I think that working dogs by nature have been prepared for this for generations, this should be respected and anything that goes against that is to against the nature of the animal and for that reason immoral and not vice versa, so those that are pursuing to change working dogs are on the wrong side of things.

Outstanding conversation! I was enthralled with the intimate details of French Ring . The comparison of protection sport with human sport was one of those lightbulb moments and to hear of how the Pitbull has absolutely no choice when placed in a ring while the protection dog has a wide open field and has had choice throughout its training was a powerful visual. This conversation elevated my understanding on the variety of topics so much and presented persuasive arguments for defending protection dogs and the sports that help select them. Thank you so much for this amazing podcast.

The Sport was developed to be in sync with the natural behaviors. I have seen a pomerian do a hold and bark with no previous training . I have seen a beagle track 97 points without any training . And the focus healing ? My dog did this when I was 6 yrs old because he could not wait to follow me with high anticipation that I would drop a crumb .

How can we see the dogs character without the stick hits ? If I am picking a strong 💪 character in a dog how can I see how he comes back ? When we watch boxing 🥊 don’t we want to see how the opponent takes hits defends and bounces back ?

I’ve had two dogs who with medicine were able to postpone putting them down, BUT When they were no longer able to function as they did i made the decision. One of the dogs requires as isolete, I told my kids she’s not a lobster, we can’t continue.

I’m a little confused because I’ve read that Malinois were first introduced to the US in 1911 and again in 1959 is that not true?
@lukeryuzaki23289 ай бұрын
The key lies with "working". Some people may import Malinois as personal pet, sheep dog. Back in the old days, Malinois was not dominant force, as people still import other Belgian Shepherd type. There was no Malinois clubs, but Belgian Shepherd clubs in America. Doberman was the official war dog for the US Marine Corps during WWII for the Pacific front. Post WWII, GSDs and Labs had been the go to wardogs for the US military, until this supposed shift toward Malinois.

Don’t dogs like people need jobs and a prepuse in life! We made these dogs to work with us in some ways. Maybe find away to come to an understanding and not put human emotions on them. Just respect them
