I have just spent some valuable time in the Desert between Marble Bar and Alice Springs. The days were wonderful, the nights windy and cloudy to 4am. One night at Kunawarritji Community (Canning Stock Route) had no clouds, the phone went 'nuts'. So frustrating, 'The Legends' got some of those shots for others to see. Looking outside in the Northern Rivers of NSW and the clouds are back after a wonderfully sunny day. I used Landscape Imaging for Haasts Bluff Range, yes it was during the day, but 7 images across seemed to work very well. Going to give it a try at night time to see if it works instead of portrait

Aw, should have tried the AE/AF lock and seen if that would have kept the balance in check some. Now I need to try that.

I just got a new iPhone 15 pro max. I am looking forward to using it for night photography. I had good luck with my 12.

I upgraded to the same phone from a 12 about 3 months ago. Shayne was part of the driving force behind it, sure glad i did. Love taking night shots, biggest problem is finding dark skies, i live north of Minneapolis and have to get further north to avoid the light pollution.

I got some reasonable night shots not far out of Appleton a few years back. If youre north of there, I can imagine you would get some great shots mate.

Even with clear skies I don't get that view in Long Island NY. I guess I need to make a trip Down Under. Shayne, the pics were still pretty good. Keep them coming

You need to travel a bit from there mate. You need nice dark skies.

I know what you mean when you say how nice it is to get out under the stars. I’ve been fortunate enough to get out twice this week. I thought about doing a pano like that but it was the metering that held me back. Just didn’t think it would work. Next time I get out I’m definitely going to try it anyway.

It works well when not doing so many. I have a few really nice ones when the GC is not as high in the sky

I wish we have these clear skies in Belgium. On top of that, we suffer from immense light pollution. Me and my wife were in a remote area a few weeks ago with few light pollution, but then it was cloudy and when we had clear skies, it was close to full moon, which obscured the galactic core. Still managed to take a picture of the galactic core with some editing with my wife's iPhone 15Pro while my Samsung S22 Ultra failed. Anyway, really insane what you can pull off over there down under :)

I have found when shooting the Milky Way when it’s high in the sky in multiple rows I need to have more buffer around the edge as Bimostitch or Lightroom tends to over crop the final image.

Use AF/AE LOCK and that should lock the WB too. Also if you have photoshop use photo merge to do it.

try using a mobile gimbal and control it by the setting and do it that way. than you manually turning it by hand.

Gimbals are no good for long exposure. They motors in them blur the stars. More often than not, the iPhones wont go to 30 seconds because of that. Good idea though mate.

For Astro pics which phone camera do you recommend now if you don't want a gigantic phone? I think the Iphone 15 pro or S24 might be the largest phone I would go for. I am so tired of not being able to one hand my phone if I want to text or even press and emoji and my Note 9 finally bit the bullet the other day so I'm in the market. There is so much information and bias out there now, it's getting hard to find a fair minded opinion.

Nice try mate, I tried something similar ( in India ) with s23u and the app. I have 12 and waiting for 16 release so can decide whether to go with 15 or 16 pro model.
