Welcome to iWish - a series in which I buy something off Wish and see if it's any good and 99.99999% of the time it's garbage and this time around, we don't have a phone to review - it's a tablet.
I decided to look at about 50 different listings on Wish to see if I could find a tablet that might be decent for the price, thinking if I pay more, I should receive a premium product. Well, it's WISH - nothing is premium. I got what I deserved.
This tablet is $120USD and is falsely advertised...but it looks slightly like an iPad (sort of). It's got one good thing going for it and that's it. Plus, the specs of this thing...pretty disappointing that's for sure. No 4G (or cellular for that matter), battery capacity not what is listed, hell even the look of the tablet is wonky!
Anyways, sit back, grab a drink or something and relax as I unbury this tablet from it's 2013 grave.

@@vola-2899 yeah I went from a galaxy S9 to a f2 pro and I miss the low light performance of the S9 although day shots have less detail. Could've easily been fixed with ois, which the Chinese version has, along with a telephoto camera instead of a useless macro sensor.

If you go into the Mediatek engineering menu, you can see what bands each Sim is capable of. You can also turn on available bands that may be off (but it won't let you turn on anything out of band). There is also a region setting somewhere in the phone section of the engineering menu (don't have an mtk handy at the moment to give you exact heading) that you can use to switch between US/EU/Asia and I am pretty sure AU. My experience with Chinese tablets. I have a "2019 Version: 8GB/128GB, 4GLTE, Android 9.0, 10 core" etc. My device is (surprise) a 4 core 6580. Yeah CPUZ (which was pre-installed) shows 10 cores, but if you look, only 4 cores ever operate. The ram is interesting because HWINFO reports 4GB, and I have reason to believe it to be true because I can frequently get it to over 2GB under load. Storage is 16GB which is typical of these crap devices. The device claims 4G LTE and lies. It even shows 4G in the status bar. But looking in the MTK Engineering Menu shows that only 2G and 3G bands are available. My screen is also 1280x800 so that's probably a common screen, and I believe the battery was 3800. The thing I found most interesting was it was Android 7 under the hood. I find that odd, as I found your 5.1 odd because these devices are almost always 6.0 I got mine of Aliexpress because you can generally find reputable dealers and Aliexpress themselves don't take no shit when it comes to counterfeits. I first talked to the company I bought it from and a fairly nice lady told me to stick my refund up my ass, but in a nice way. I provided her with all of my documented evidence that EVERYTHING offered in the tablet was a lie. She said they don't except that as evidence, so I opened the dispute with Aliexpress, went back and forth only 1 time, and got my refund within 1 day, didn't even wait for the RMA (Then again, I am a Diamond member, so I am sure they know I wouldn't pull something like that.)

I kinda wanna buy one. The insides is all taped on and it feels like the perfect tablet for modders. Look at that space I can probably add so much batteries in there. If i feel like It i can even an nvme in there if I can stomach hours of looking at the board schematic and tinkering with the bios. but nonetheless with all that space the custom mods we can add are limitless. the reason for the play store crashing was because the play store and play services apps were updating in the background without notifying you. Give it like 5 to 10 minutes to install the new versions and it will then work

That tablet is 2G/3G only. Set it to 3G only. Then search for networks manually. I also brought it. The home button should have a fingerprint sensor as well. The 4GB emmc contains the bios and stuff. It is basically a bios chip. You can use the keyboard. You can install any arm based os. That 4GB card also contains drivers and firmware.

The random 4gb eMMC is more than likely a hidden storage device that's running hidden malicious/ data logging (maybe also to archive data) from the user and sends it 1+ servers in China. You should run something like wireshark or netstat on it.

It won't have the right frequencies to work on 4G in Australia. it's important to check these things if possible but you're not likely to use a tablet as a phone in the first place and as long as it works on Wi-Fi it's ok.

I remember once bought a Chinese tablet with an aluminum back. This aluminum blocked the WiFi signal and when the device was turned forward to my router the signal was on 5 bars and when the tablet turned back to the router then the signal fell to two bars. Maybe that's why you don't connect to mobile network.

I sometimes buy stuff off Wish too, but only things I know they can be made cheaply, like geek toys and no-name clothes that look half-decent. We have cheap clothes shops like KiK or Primark in Germany and that’s the quality I expect. With that in mind you cannot do much wrong. Oh, and the German at 8:34 actually looks halfway correct, but I wonder why some umlauts are correct and others turn up as question marks. With a wrong character encoding, when copy-pasting a text, all umlauts would become question marks and not only half of them...

The cheaper devices on Wish are pretty much identical but they hack the firmware to make the specs look a bit lower than they did with yours, but still better than they actually are. I made the mistake a couple of years ago, but thankfully knew my way around Android enough to bring up the config files where I could blatantly see they had inserted code that actually said something like "Fake_Res=1920x1080", "Fake_mem=4Gb". There's a video on KZbin somewhere where someone does the same and finds the same fake specs in the config files. Using that info I was able to get a full refund from Wish and ended up with a free tablet, albeit not a very useful one. Another thing to be aware of is that some of these have adware embedded in them that hijacks the adds in apps to show their own adds instead, again I think there's a video on KZbin showing how the adds get worse and worse as time goes on.

I work for Verizon's tier 2 tech support. The reason why you can't pick up a signal is because the device is a CDMA only device and USA is currently the only country still using CDMA. Your country is using a GSM signal. The difference is GSM is newer and designed for 4G signals or better and the CDMA is for 3G or lower, but you can still run 3G over a GSM signal. Hope that's informative.
