WHAT IS IXION?
IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.
A population to manage, survivors to find, cryopods to recover... Maintain your crew's trust in the corporation that started this venture, or face failure and mutiny. Six sectors can be unlocked within the station, each able to house more population, support new jobs, and provide opportunity to monitor the crew with the Data Listening System. Will you bring hope to the people?
IXION combines survival elements, exploration, conflict and resolution through player choices, resource management, and and overarching story that takes players through the vastness of space.

They really need to have more attention given to the endings IMO. This game has amazing visuals all the way through until the end. I want those scenes to have the same polish… and maybe be a bit more different. But, that’s it for our Ixion playthrough. Thanks for watching! EDIT: I kinda feel bad about now exploring the Free Will temple anyways, just to see what happens. So I went back and did it. results are below - TEMPLE OF FREE WILL: EXPLORE AND STUDY RESULTS: - 5 CREW MEMBERS LOST (same result) Summary: The Medusae team are *not responding* to our hails. Before *comms breakdown* , the team had started to act *differently* , ceasing to follow *recommended DOLOS protocol* . They seem to have *disappeared* into the depths of the temple. The Medusae will be *sent back* to the Tiqqun via its autopilot.

The entire story and narration feels just bare bones and needs a serious do-over imho. It's the greatest weak point of the game as is, becaused it's just so linear yet confusing, with barely any memorable characters or actually impactful choices in it. And the static or barely animated pictures don''t do much to improve the narrative atmosphere either.

I just noticed a massive construction flaw in the Tiqqun: when it moves, the acceleration from its thrusters would shift the gravity in the ship from the outer radius of the rotating drum to the backside wall, leading to all sorts of complications and making working or moving around in the ship very difficult if not impossible. Unless the ship accelerates VERY slowly and at low-G!
@TheElMuffin
@TheElMuffin Жыл бұрын
It's a glaring plot hole that I've thought a long time on. Tiqqun accelerates fast enough to become a kinetic projectile powerful enough to destroy Perinesi. Tiqqun is designed to move around, so I believe it's a plot hole. What would solve this if sectors very longitudinally positioned to hinge for centrifugal gravity and thrust gravity as need arises. That would have required a lot more coding and animating. But it would be cool. Prepping for travel or back into rotation mode could require, say, a cycle for Tiqqun to re-arrange itself, making running from Piranesi even more challenging.
@toddkes5890
@toddkes5890 Жыл бұрын
@@TheElMuffin Kinetic energy is based on velocity, low acceleration for longer periods of time can get the necessary velocity. Also most of the crew is evacuated from Tiqqun before it performs its attack, so higher acceleration is not an issue.
@TheElMuffin
@TheElMuffin Жыл бұрын
@@toddkes5890 Tiqqun is animated to take off pretty fast when you move it on the celestial map. If a cycle is equal to 1 day, going from one planet to another in just a few days means those EKP engines pack a punch. Everything indicates that the more juice Tiqqun has, the faster and farther it can go, hence building 1000 tiles worth of batteries. Electro-kinetic propulsuon is purely theoretical right now but promises high engine efficiency, high specific impulse, high thrust-to-power ratio - a magical engine really, a unicorn. So no, I don't think Tiqqun moves slow, I think it zaps around and it's denizens hold on for dear life lest they smash into the back wall.

I'm really curious about that "Lunaclysm was inevitable" line. How was it inevitable, and how did he know? How did he know it was called the Lunaclysm, when that was presumably recorded before they left? And why go ahead with the Tiqqun if he knew what would happen? It really frames the whole story differently.

The game tells us that the element used to access 'self-same space' appears to have a deleterious effect on human minds, from obsession to delusions of godhood, suicide and other erratic behaviour. It also potentially allows access to or glimpses of other realities (and possible futures). I suspect that the founder guy and/or whoever discovered this element, basically got wrapped up in that delusion/obsession and either mistakenly thought the lunaclysm was inevitable ('seeing' other realities where it happened and assuming it was their own future) or decided it was inevitable because they wanted the potential futures they could have with the establishment of the Vohle engine.

@@DeadDancers To add to that, there are missions on planets/astroids where you find weird spheres that consume people. I think I had one in the second system and lost a science ship and in the last system I got them back, though they now had red overralls instead of yellow, but all bio checks were saying it's the same people. Or another mission where you find the corpse of a crew member, but that crew member is alive and well on the Tiqqun. There are definitely some time shenanigans at play.

Bulwark Studios is not even 10 people I think. This game is a banger but I do think they had to rush last chapters. Given more time and more developers, we'd have had more cutscenes, more story, more lore. I bet they hade a lot more ideas that never made it into the game. I would love a 3rd ending, where Tiqqun manages to destroy Piranesi using cargo ships packed with charged batteries as missiles, instead of destroying the entire Tiqqun itself. Or just research and invent an honest to God missile. How does Piranesi destroy an entire planet anyway? It's not that big. Etemenanki was magnitutes bigger than Piranesi.
@METALFREAK03
@METALFREAK03 Жыл бұрын
I imagine the Piranesi is like the architect from the Matrix where they can "decode" whole buildings by a flip of a button. Also Giovanni Battista Piranesi is a real life architect and archeologist from Italy in the 1700s. Also, also (:)) I believe one of the council was called Giovanni Battista to confirm they (the devs) are signalling this. I don't think they "rushed" the last chapters and cutscenes. I think it is exactly how they wanted to end it. It's just many people whom have played it don't know of (or just haven't seen it poetically as me I guess (and/or them too)) the legend of Romulus and Remus. I went into more detail in my comment above but it's basically very poetic. It's even down to the sector's design and placement of the planets/comets etc in the sector too.
@METALFREAK03
@METALFREAK03 Жыл бұрын
ps I just put that comment here: I am pretty sure the cutscene shows Remus as destroyed because of Roman Mythology rather than the devs being lazy or whatnot. Remus is a lie and not real, it's a fantasy. Even the Remus ending is you destroying humanity through you being turned into something else. And this is what the lesson is learnt from the Romulus and Remus foundation story for the ancients (and today). You can't have everything and there is no utopia. It is a lie. You gain from hard work, and working through your problems. If you saw the system, you had the two hills which they fought over the placement of (in our realities myth/legend) Palatine and Aventine. Palatine being closer to the star and on the right hand side of it and next to Plutarch (who wrote about Romulus and the first mention of Palatine Hill. The original, by Ovid only mentioned the two brothers finding Aventine and I think a mythical hill called Palatine). Plutarch also being a planet that speeds up time is also quite poetic as Plutarch was a historian :) Romulus being close to the star, meaning it will be harder to survive than that of Remus (you pointed this out in the finale I believe). I also believe this is a nod to the fact Rome was besieged in it's early days due to the Palatine (where Romulus settled) was much closer to the Sabine which nearly killed all the males of Rome in its cradle. If they were to went to Remus's hill (which I believe was Aventine) it would have been a lot further away. Plutarch believed though the omen from the Gods picked Palatine over Aventine due to Rome needing women to bore more future generations. The placement of these planets around the star in this sector replicates this. So the design is impeccable and I think the cut scenes are not lazy, yet calculated as long as you know the legend behind the whole storyline.

pss - just a note on your 3rd ending, it has to be Tiqqun destroying Piranesi as it's all about the poetic symbolism. Tiqqun was an anarchist figure in French 1700s. So it makes sense it would be the weapon to destory architect Piranesi. (also interesting they are French vs Italian. And at that time. The french were going through cultural revolutional change at the time when Italians were almost falling into being borderline decadent. (having their cultural revival in the 14th/13th century...) But I love symbolism..and history so probably reading too much into it :)

I like how all endings have really dark undertones. In the 'paradise planet' ending, there's a lot of 'free will is an illusion, be joyful being controlled' stuff, not to mention only a fraction of your crew being 'converted' (looks like maybe their mind is transferred/most of their body becomes 'waste') with the rest (the majority) being killed ramming the Piranesi. But the alternative, Romulus, is a toxic wasteland seeming no better than the planet you left behind, except with less 'exploding moon' troubles. The sulphuric atmosphere, with humans weirdly being shown walking about bare-faced and breathing it, suggests a miserable future for them and/or a level of delusion in their colony efforts. At best, maybe, they might turn out to have the terraforming skills to fix that and the entire ecosystem that doesn't seem habitable... but nothing we've seen so far indicates that's likely. Most likely, if Romulus survives at all, it will go the way of history and humans from Romulus will eventually conquer Remus.

One thing to note about Romulus, there's no guarantee that what you see is what's there or accurate as the administrator, due to all of your information being able to be edited by Edden. For all we know it could have the perfect conditions for being or becoming habitable, but we'd have no way of knowing because Edden's programing would make her alter whatever we saw into being unsuitable for colonization. But the scientists researching the planet aren't hooked directly into the Tiqqun like we are and would thus be able to make unbiased observations on Romulus's conditions. Since i doubt the colonists would all be taking of their helmets if they hadn't already received an all clear that it *was* safe. It would however make a depressing, yet real, twist if the colonists of Romulus ended up taking Remus. Though not one i'd want for either of them. The Ashtangites were Dolos's first allies, it'd be nice if it remained so. But who knows, maybe Romulus only ends up serving as a springboard for constructing more space-habitats.
@DeadDancers
@DeadDancers Жыл бұрын
@@fallatiuso Honestly, the complete opposite is more likely to be true. We have canonical evidence that humans keep having delusions (the house thats bigger on the inside) leading to death (5 go in, 1 and a ball of goop comes out) , or believing dangerous things are safe (the crewmate taking off his helmet insisting the air was fine and dying in 20 minutes - I think the rest of his team do the same if you don't order them back ASAP) or believing they're going to become gods via mass-unaliving themselves (the crew on that one planet where you get a HELL of a lot of science and can keep them alive only if you a) allow only 2 rounds of investigation and b) require constant psychological monitoring via their ship's P.A.) and while it's certainly possible that Edden has been/could skew the information provided to us, we really don't have any evidence that she's done so until right at the veeeeeeerry end when she tells us that Romulus doesn't exist. And that's only if we assume that she is lying vs we are delusional.

Loved the series! I really enjoyed the whole adventure. If you do another play through of this, it would be cool to see an optimized sections run. (No criticism on your run though cause clearly you got through fine! Lol). But some thoughts for how to do it (and do it with less of a hassle). One thing I noticed was how many non workers you had in each section, when you get the the opening of section 6, If you get those housing upgrades (to increase capacity per house), it does affect the domatic quarters. Build all your extra housing there so you can tear it down in other sections, leaving room for other buildings. I think you could do it pretty easily if you use a couple “reorganize” specific storage management tips. (Using your play through as an example) -when you unlock section 6 and start building housing, place down temporary medium stockpile for alloy and another stockpile for your electronic. -in section 1 (with almost 1200 non workers), get rid of a few houses normally, with all the normal storage issues that come with it, then make a medium stockpile for alloys in section 1 -in resource management tap, tell section 1 to only export to section 6. And tell section 6 to only get resources from section 1 (so make sure section 1 has an electronic for section 6 to steal for domatic houses) Doing this means you will have alloy stockpiles in 1 that won’t fill up from other sources to use to take down buildings and those allows will immediately be taken to 6’s alloy storage (that also won’t be filled up from other sources) so you can effectively move buildings, or more specifically, move the exact resources for a building/buildings from one sector to another without waiting for storage. And as soon as you get the first couple houses out of the way it becomes easier as you have more free space for stockpiles. -just select the export to and import from to be isolated between the two sectors you’re working in. The only reason I think this is even a worthwhile thing to do is I noticed most sectors had around 250ish workers. The upgraded domatic quarters should hold about 110 people. So if you make a real population section to have all your non workers, you only need about 3 houses per other sector. And that could clear lots of room in those other sectors. And that means more places for stockpiles so you have to switch what they are less to avoid bottle necks!

It's definitely anticlimactic and not very rewarding. Gives the feeling that no choices made before even matter in the end. And in fact, they don't. The whole storyline is just too linear and unsatisfying, with too many questions and mysteries unanswered and too little actual rewards beyond varying amounts of simple resources. And the ending cinematics, if one can even call them that, are more than underwhelming. Also i miss the option to simply destroy the Piranesi whilst disabled by the pulsar, maybe with a nuclear power plant (if researched) converted into a bomb and brought to the ship in order to make sure it will never move again. Or by tugging its hulk into the gravity well of a planet or the pulsar. Leading to a much less stressful ending.

it's so poetic if you know the romulus and remus foundation of rome legend. (plus take into the account placement, design, sound etc of that last sector...) The final cutscene is a nod to that and what it means. "Remus is a lie" aka ultra utopian society can never be achieved. Romulus is humanity's grit and determination of sruvival and to adapt & overcoming dire circumstances and hurdles. This is why Remus is a lie.

@@axelhopfinger533 There is nothing unanswered really. It's linear but that doesn't make the story incomplete or unsatisfactory in my opinion. It's just very poetic. The design is almost impeccable.

Free-Will, Merit, and Commonsense are counters to sorcery. Electrons have free will. Whenever you override the free will of electrons, then your metabolism acquires a disability. Merit is also a measure of the survival of human spirit and making nature into a source of strength. Common sense is the strength that comes from relying on what is common to all beings. The uncommon develops freely. Sorcery is not common neither is spellcraft. True physical strength.

I am pretty sure the cutscene shows Remus as destroyed because of Roman Mythology rather than the devs being lazy or whatnot.

My personal theory as to why the endings were so mediocre is, they ran out of time/budget to make the actual ending, and this last chapter was meant to be the penultimate chapter with the *next* vohle jump being the final leading to Romulus. With this chapter meant to be themed around the Piranesi AI having corrupted Edden (Note the lines of dialogue in the previous chapter that speak about 'consuming' Naomi and having access to the back door Naomi protocols. Assuming the plot for this theoretical penultimate chapter was going to be the Piranesi taking over Edden, the story suddenly makes a much creepier level of sense with what we encounter of the Ashtangites and all that. In this theoretical version of events, Piranesi Edden would be manipulating the experiences and sensory feeds of ships and crew we deploy, creating this false narrative of upliftment to join the Ashtangites. When in reality we would be collecting and assembling the Piranesi technology to build it a new biomechanical neural net. The scientists die when trying to examine the 'temples' because the corrupted Edden terminates them for finding something they shouldn't have. And assembling the final machine; the fact it seems to just be killing your people and leaving trash from the process would make a lot more sense too. You're inadvertently feeding them to this Piranesi tech. End out there with spacing Edden, taking the remaining humans still alive and working out the last jump to Romulus (Which the beginning of the game indicates is impossible quite explicitly, which would make for a bit of an unused Checkhov's gun outside of the arbitrary 'we need to find the next coordinates' mechanic of the game. And it breaks down into the real final chapter being arriving at Romulus and getting started on the colony etc. It's a big reach I know, but would help make the rushed feeling slapped together ending make sense, specially with how many narrative threats like the magic time orbs, and other stuff that just go completely unresolved.

The "Remus story" is fantastic (and terrible at the same time)...you basically condemn humankind to a future similar to the Borg of Star Trek...some kind of "utopian" society with no free will, merit, common sense etc...the ability to think and act individually...is basically "space communism" :DDDDD (yes, you live in harmony with nature, basically being an integral part of it...but is so dehumanizing...and fragile...no further space travel, no defenses...if something happens to that planet you are fkd...)

As an idea of games (in case you truly have nothing new to play in 2023, which I am sure is not the case). After doing all the trip to a foreign system and colonizing them, how about playing a game where you land on a planet and establish a colony? Nope, I am not talking of Surviving Mars there but of Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth. Up to you to decide as always :)

I chose Romulus to begin with since I didn't like the idea of being assimilated like Borg into another race which isn't actually saving humanity it's altering it. I also agree with the others remarking how the endings were pitiful after such effort was put into the game graphics and dynamics. Two thumbs down there. The whole emphasis behind the game was heading out off earth to find a new Eden and all we get is a crappy picture. After putting in 130+ hours I expected a great couple-minute video with scenes/pictures and awesome narrative detailing the trips adventures and exploits and how the human race was saved. I will say I enjoyed the game a lot. With no real replay-ability It's now done and will sit in dry-dock Unless/until there's a new mission if that ever happens.
