I have low porosity, 4b/4c, medium-thick density hair. It looves and flourishes with aloe Vera juice/gel, Shea butter, and henna treatments. I wash with African black soap or Ayurvedic shampoos. My hair loves these products. It hates coconut oil though! I spritz my hair daily with aloe Vera juice and distilled water as well as a tea with a variety of herbs in it. My hair loves ACV as well. I’m confused because I have lo po hair. It fits all the criteria for lo po hair but she acts like she’s high porosity! She’s so extra!

Water soluble silicones is one of best ingredients for type 4 hair. They add sheen, detangle, and moisturize I don’t know why so many naturals run away from these type of silicones. They really combat all of our type 4 issues such knots and tangles, dry & brittle hair and they add sheen. Aloe vera juice makes my hair brittle. These tips are great tips.

Yes your right, they are amazing for detangling, shine and softer feeling hair! I think the key is to know the difference between the types of silicones instead of categorizing them as the same!

Every thing you said it on point! Great video super informative I believe knowledge will always trump any thing on a natural hair journey and it will save you time and most of all money and stress. I have also noticed that low porosity hair likes glycerin, honey, and agave. Those humectats work very well and penetrate. (In the right weather of course) I noticed oils such as avocado, grapeseed, almond, baobab, olive, argan, and mint really are low porosity friendly because of their molecular structure. I am also do sorry that the flaxseed gel did not work for your hair!😭 My hair LOVES flaxseed gel! when making it what do you use? I use agave, slippery elm, marshmallow root, glycerin, aloe Vera juice, avocado oil, baobab oil, and olive oil. Have you tried any of these ingredients? I know you are very intelligent and know all about PH and low porosity hair and my gel has a ph of 5.5-6. I love your channel and you have given me so many tips that I incorporate in my regimen. I hope this helps 💜💯🌟🙏🔥👌

Thanks so much for sharing! My hair LOVES humectants and I am actually currently working on a video about ingredients that low porosity hair loves! I really wanted to like flaxseed gel and I may attempt to try your recipe as the last try but I don't think it will work for me but I know that it still works for some others! If you would please leave your recipe with measurements I would love to give it a try! :)
@TheAmazingXman6 жыл бұрын
@@IydaChristopher 1/3 cup of Flaxseeds 2 1/2 cup of water (you can use herbal tea if you want like chamomile, calendua or hibiscus) That is the flaxseed base I let it simmer and boil until I see a nice trail of musilage and then let it sit for 40 minutes then strain through nylons. 3-4 Tables spoons of marshmallow root 3-4 Table spoons of Slippery elm bark 2 1/2 cups of water The same method applies here when boiling and straining. (Wait about 15 minutes before straining) Making sure you constantly stir so prevent clumping. 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera Juice 1 Tablespoon of Honey (can use agave) 1 Tablespoon of glycerin 3-4 Tablespoons of Grapeseed, Avocado, Olive, and Almond oils 5 drops of Argan and Baobab oils Once I have both the flaxseed base and the slippery elm/marshmallow root base set strained. I will add the oils and Aloe and humecants to the slippery elm base. Stiring well until it's incorporated. Then I will add that base to the flaxseed gel and incorporate this makes a good amount. So I store what I want to use in a large applicator bottle and the rest in a jar and Freeze it. You can adjust this recipe how you see fit! I like my gel on the thicker side because I want a strong hold and some slight elongation to my curls. Feel free to use whatever oils you like or change up the measurements you see fit! I hope this helps!!! Thank you for the great content!!💜🌟💯👑🙏

Now hearing the list, I understand more why it has happened that much ! However now I struggle a lot to find a protein heavy oils aloe vera free conditioner. Also I wear my hair curly so it's an even bigger struggle haha ! I think my hair dislikes the horsetail ingredient, have you heard about it ? It's in gels, shampoos, conditioners, etc. It helps strengthening the hair and I've been trying to avoid it also.

The top half of my head of hair is low porosity. I found this conditioner that I've been loving all though it does have coconut oil and hydrolyzed soy protein (these are almost at the end of the ingredient list) it's Orlando Pita's Argan Gloss Conditioning Treatment. Its a wash out conditioner to use along with their shampoo so I'm not sure why they call it a treatment but I've been enjoying it.

I hope I don't sound ignorant. When I wear a donut bun, I am afraid of my hair will mold been it seems like the nape put never dries when I leave it in the style. I have to take my donut bun down to let it fully dry.
@IydaChristopher6 жыл бұрын
I actually went through the same thing! I stopped putting my hair in a bun when it is really wet because I noticed that sometimes my hair would start to smell weird because it took so long to dry in the inside! It sucks because its hard for me to but my hair is a sleek tight bun without wetting my hair first but I just let it dry as much as possible and spray the outside of my bun more to help squeeze my hair in a bun and just lightly wet the hair on the inside to prevent mold!

So hydrolyzed wheat protein is both a protein and a silicone?? I've always been confused by that. Also, I've read that coco betaine is one of the only non-sulfate ingredients that can remove non-water soluble silicones from the hair. And a good thing too since I sometimes have to use detanglers with non-water soluble silicones in order to detangle my transitioning hair.
@IydaChristopher6 жыл бұрын
Hydrolyzed wheat protein is a protein, not a silicone. Coco Betaine may possibly remove non water soluble silicones, especially when another detergent is mixed in with it, however, it depends on how much of the silicone is on the product and also depends on how much silicone buildup you have on your hair. For instance, my fave shampoo is the Mane Choice Hydrating shampoo and the only cleansing agent in there is Coco Betaine and it does remove silicones to a certain extent until I have clarify after using silicones for a while and I don't really incorporate silicones too often. When I used to use silicones more often, I had to clarify my hair more often even though the Coco Betaine did a decent job but the mild cleanser can only remove so much so often. This is just my experience, however, it may be different for others! Hope this helps! :) I def agree with you that a lot of great detanglers have non water silicones.

There are sillicones in there.
@YourMajesty1432 жыл бұрын
Soybean is high in protein. Coconut oil tends to bind to protein. Shea butter is extremely heavy and might cause buildup, along with the coconut oil. The other oils are perfectly fine. But there are at least 2 silicones. I'm seeing Phenyl Trimethicone and Dimethicone, which are both non-water soluble and may require clarifying or deep cleansing shampoos. I believe Dimethicone is the strongest and largest in molecule of them all, it tends to sit on the hair shaft and may take up to 5 washes to be completely rid of it. If you're using this product as an occlusive or a sealant (AFTER putting moisture into your hair), then that's probably the best way to get use out of it. You can also dilute it with water, if you feel it's too heavy. Otherwise, I'd use it sparingly or not at all.
