They are not three great Yokai but actually Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi and Susanoo were the three divine kami...there is great difference in Yokai and Kami

@ryan boughton Kami can be referred to as God/Spirit. However, it cannot be exactly translated. Actually, kami are the forces of universe. Everything that exists are kami for example: the mountain kami, the river kami, etc. It is like every inanimate object possesses some spirit. And, the yokai typically stands for demons. They are characterized by their horrific looks. They love to terrorize humans or pull pranks. Or at worst, they even something spook or steal life forces. Sometimes, these yokai can work under kami and bring benefits humans. For instance, Kitsune(the fox yokai) is the messenger and guardian of Kami Inari and, sometimes kami himself looks like yokai eg: Raijin and Fujin.

It is not clearly stated in the Kojiki【古事記】 whether Izanami and Izanami were brothers and sisters. The kanji [妹] is ambiguous because it has two meanings, wife and sister. However, at the beginning of myths around the world, there are many myths in which the world was born when brothers and sisters were married. Adam and Eve, Zeus and Hera, Chinese Fukki and Joka. Therefore, the interpretation that two gods are brothers and sisters is one theory that is said to be consistent with myths around the world.
