It's meant as the second part of an older movie from the 1960s. Izo was a terrorist and got betrayed by his Lord. He returns as a demon to take revenge on the world. It's realized with many bloody swordfights and lots of asian philosopy. If you make the effort to understand what is going on it may change your life forever. One of the greatest films by Takashi Miike from when he was still doing whatever he wanted.

I don't believe in hell, but this movie is a great representation of it. This is an awesome movie for thoughtful people. You reap what you sow and then some because life isn't fair. It's a theological masterpiece with great action, 4th dimensional shit, and so many WTF moments that it's haunting. If you watch Izo, it'll haunt you. It's implications are scarier than anything in the bible. You will be a different person. Fuck that live by the sword, die by the sword bullshit. That logic falls on its face the minute a person who has never touched a weapon dies by a weapon. Your best chance for survival is being good with a sword. Live by the sword and be sentenced to eternal swordplay with no rest. That's a hell to be scared of. That is "Izo".

Best explanation of this film I’ve read since I first saw it back in 2006, and first thought, “What the fuck did I just see??”
@similaritiesendhere4 жыл бұрын
@@benmcfee I completely forgot about this movie. My two favorite scenes are: 1. When he meets the older assassin who accepts his punishment and is therefore able to easily defeat Izo 2. When Izo becomes a powerful enough demon to challenge Lucifer and gets bitch slapped anyways. I guess I know what I'm watching tonight.

@butoden I understood it as an outlet for the incredible amounts of aggression and violence pent up in the japanese culture. What takashi miike did with this film was bring realism back to death and the katana, which despite the fantasy depictions of sword slashers is still understood to be "really fucking deadly".
Bună seara domnilor japonezi filme actori japonezi vreau să vă transmit că și eu tot așa un film killer ca filmul ăsta și altele

Izo was a real person he couldn't become a samurai legit, so he killed cats and dogs until he was really good at killing and im pretty sure he actually sucked at it and was crucified.

Great movie! You'll love it or you'll hate it,no middle way,but it's a must-see for everyone. It needs some knowledge about eastern religious concepts (or some research afterward) to fully understand its symbolism.

Aw, you forgot the duel where they both die and then he gets back up again like 30 seconds later.
