iZombie tells the story of Liv Moore, a promising young doctor who winds up infected with a zombie virus. In order to maintain her sanity, she is forced to subsist on human brains, abandoning her career as a doctor and taking a job in the Seattle Police Department's morgue to arrange a steady supply. Eating brains grants visions of the past lives of the dead, and Liv begins working with coroner Ravi and detective Clive to use these visions to solve murders. All the while, sinister organizations like the zombie virus-creating energy drink company Max Rager, the zombie-feeding butcher shop Meat Cute, and the zombie-staffed Private Military Company FIllmore-Graves threaten to send Seattle into a full-blown zombie apocalypse.

@@mrcroob8563 Because when I mean fine, I'm not saying CW shows are just mediocre shows, just that they are better than their trashy reputation. If you want "good" shows, the CW definitely has some: Supernatural, The 100, Nikita, The Originals, Smallville, Superman & Lois, iZombie, Stargirl and Legends of Tomorrow are all pretty good watches. Arrow and The Vampire Diaries have a couple rough seasons, but are still more good than bad. Riverdale is pretty great if you know what you're getting into. Plus there's some comedy shows like Jane the Virgin, Reaper and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend that are well regarded too. (I don't watch comedies, so I can't really say much about them).

ya the CWness sort of crept in here, and it made Major and especially Liv unlikable because of the speed at which they just flip flop and go from madly in love to i have a secret boyfriend/girlfriend. I get its a CW show and everyone needs to kiss everyone because that's how these shows work but when you show a long term committed relationship like what major and liv have, and then do this sorta stuff, i do not believe they are meant for eachother, and i don't really think Liv should be in any committed relationship.

@@retroshark8 i think some of it definitely made me view liv in a bad light, specifically in season 2 when major and liv break it off, and then there isn't even a full episode before Liv finds a new zombie boyfriend that she also actively feels bad enough about to hide it from major. definitely undermines the narrative that these two characters should end up together.

@@SaiShiroKuro It's a shame since otherwise this show (at least in my opinion) has great writing. I also noticed a similar thing with many other shows... WHY??!!! Instead of making a show with obvious, but good romance, they just don't (I'm probably that mad because romance is my favorite genre.) Few examples of that would be: "Buffy the vampire slayer", "vampire diaries"... "Lucifer" at first glance is also that way, but I believe that it isn't... Why???!!!

I always thought Blaine's final demise--being pushed down a well to go feral and be forgotten--was a sort of fitting end to him. All series he's always acted as an untouchable big shot, and what better punishment for someone like that than an ending devoid of dignity? No blaze of glory, no stare down with the hero dealing a finishing blow with final words....Just pushed from behind by his right hand underling. The fact that it mirrors the death he'd planned for his father just makes it better.

iZombie is such a hidden gem of a show. Had it's own style and so many great characters. Major is a great example. On paper and by description alone, he seems like an absolute joke, but over time, he became one of my favorites because the characters in this show actually have arcs and change over time. But the show remains fun and campy pretty much the whole time until the very end.

IZombie series 1 and about half of 2 is one of my favourite shows ever. Smart, punchy, well written, great characters, puppy and fun - really great. I reccomended it to a lot of people. The last season and the one before it may be my least favourite show ever made. I have never both loved and hated a show so much. By the time we got to people smuggling, her execution and her transformations from eating being so incredibly over the top in a way they never were before, I just hated it and was watching to see how much worse it could get. That iZombie having such a lacklustre ending in order for a season of Veronica Mars that killed Logan Echolls OFFSCREEN to be priortised is akin to the writer's strike cutting Pushing Daisies short in crimes against whimsical, camp TV shows, that have a unique way of finding out info from murder victims. The thing about Liv's family/brother makes me so mad because there are these great deleted scenes from season 2 where Liv tells her brother the truth about her, and he comes out as gay to her, and they're really heartfelt and sweet and actually provid closure on that arc, but instead they're like, nah her family thinks she's awful and she doesn't talk to them for three years! 57:58 one thing i loved about Brother Love is how they made many of his teachings direct quotes from when we saw Blaine "visit" his dad in the well. Like what he says here about having them by their "short and curlies" or what becomes a sort of catch phrase for his newfound religiosity "god loves you. He means it" because Blaine would always leave his dad with "love you, mean it" (sarcastically i might add) while his dad was slowly losing his mind down in the well. So Blaine's dad thought Blaine's voice was the voice of god the whole time 😂 Just goes to show what excellent writing this show was capable of.

Abbey in that show is also my headcanon favourite representation of someone with ASPD. Absolutely no guilt, totally unphased by all the madness around her, constant risk-taking behaviour, but still with the capacity to care for the people close to her and a sense of morality, because those things don't just go away if you have a decent upbringing. There's an entire arc there that she never *quite* got where she's troubled by the fact she explicitly DOESN'T feel bad about killing a couple people.

Even with its flaws, iZombie is one of my favorite series. One of the highlights for me was the Rob Thomas... no, that one. at the end of s2, especially since I didn't know of the show runner/producer one, so I genuinely thought Matchbox 20 was not only the artist for the opening song (they're not) but dude had branched out.

Kind of the same for me. I still watched it but I stopped when Seattle became a Zombie-city. I just .... can't watch this anymore. It was always kind of nice that Liz had to hide and lie to the public about the effects the brains had on her and that it was just ... normal.
@legateelizabeth
@legateelizabeth Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Like, season 2 was tolerable, it definitely had it's moments, but it started to get a bit less of it's own identity and the brain changes stopped being 'Liv gets a quirk from someone' and became more 'Liv's personality gets altered', which while it makes sense in the story (Liv deliberately doesn't fight the influence to get more/better visions), it was less entertaining to watch. Zombies being a freak accident because of a bad batch of drugs and a corrupt energy company is fun, making them generic Evil Corp who wants supersoldiers less so. Then the city got zombified and it became a whole different show.

I said this when you announced you were doing iZombie. I read the premise and thought it sounded cheesy as F, sometimes I avoid series' that I don't think I'll find enjoyable. I watched the first episode for the sole purpose of being able to legitimately say how shit it was but I instantly fell in love with it. I don't even call it a guilty pleasure because I don't feel guilty about it. I know you have pointed out some legitimate issues but I enjoyed every second of it. I love the characters and the chemistry they have. For a comedy show, I also felt the arc for each season was acceptable, if it became overly complex then it would have taken away from the comedy. Malcolm Goodwin as Babineaux clearly has comic timing for his straight-man routine. Robert Buckly could have been saddled with an unlikeable and generic character in Lilywhite. Rahul Kohli brought an extra flavour to his role with his British sarcasm. (I'm British too) David Anders made for a great protagonist who, as dislikeable as he was, had a charm to him. Last but not least, Rose McIver did a fantastic job with the character she took on the various personalities, it was so much fun.

OK more intelligent comment. Making it early so you might mention this in the video. I loved the detail of the zombies getting all red-eyed crazy when they get a huge adrenaline shot. Throughout season one you see Blaine in situations that really ought to get him into that state. He murders constantly. Lowell stabs him out of nowhere. But he never, never gets those glowing red eyes of genuine passion until he's taunting Liv at the end of the season. Blaine is a true-strain psychopath.

I'd be very interested in a behind the scenes video of your production schedule, because it seems unmatched compared to your peers. Keep up the good work and I hope your output rate isn't putting too hard a strain on your mental health and your life Edit: I'd also like more video game reviews, especially Fallout videos, as that's how I discovered you. It would be cool of you reviewed Fallout 3 or 4 and their DLCs, but I get that you probably have less to say about them and they probably won't get as many views with your current tv show review audience. Its comforting but still exciting, quirky without being annoying, and such a unique take on zombie mythology and a police procedural. Love the entire cast, and although I prefer the first three seasons with the more urban fantasy masquerade in effect, the more True Blood-ish everyone knows about zombie seasons are still really enjoyable and interesting, and level up Peyton as a character in fun ways too. Whenever I see this cast on social media or in other projects it puts a huge smile on my face.

Solid breakdown - I didn't dislike the rough parts as much as you did, but the supporting characters make up for so much of the weakness of the show. I'm shocked though that the songs only warranted a couple different mentions and not a footnote of it's own. I consider this show (at least the early seasons) amazingly scored and actually went out of my way to get the series discs they released (still waiting on the last two, likely in vain) just to ensure I'd have the series with the original soundtrack it was intended. To many of my other underloved series end up with their excellent songs replaced or straight up removed that I learned to jump on fast and get these copies while they're still fully entact.

the detail that always bothered me about this show was the unfinished liv and her brother storyline. like you said, they set up her getting close with him again then completely dropped it and next we see him is in season 5. but what frustrated me the most was that in s2 they filmed a storyline with him, coming to see her and respolving their issues, where she tells him she's a zombie andhe comes out as gay to her. it was SO infuriating to me as a young queer person that they filmed this whole thing, and added the first queer character that could possibly be semi-regular in the cast, and just fully dropped that. also in that episode, there is a scene where liv says "my brother is in the other room" which with everything related to him being deleted, it makes zero sense to have it there, and it's just a painful reminder of what we could've had. oh and i mean the lack of queer characters, I'm not saying every show should have them, but if you look at hannibal and crazy ex-girlfrend that you mentioned were a thing at the time, both shows had casual queer characters, so this is a them problem lmao. also a random detail i love, is the fact that both blaine and liv's actors were on once upon a time before this, and it's not uncommon for side characters in that show to come in and out with no explanation, so it wasn't weird when they weren't there (especially liv, her story was done), with blaine's actor he had the bleached hair for izombie and it was just funny when they randomly brought him back and were like what's with the hair lmao

I could see the path decay it was going to go down though (pun intended), so when the two shots of cure was introduced I quit mid episode, and just pretended that our main characters took the cure, saved the city from the outbreak, and lived happily ever after.
