in those videos it would make lots of sense in my opinion to really focus on the detailed functions. so explaining the speed knob for example and what values are maybe food for what kind of signal. I guess this is something like attack, but an explanation would be great instead of only showing before and after never really explaining anything.

I think of it as expansion when you turn knobs the other way around on a compressor

Expansion is expanding the dynamics. Compression is compressing the dynamic so they're not the same. Upward expansion is boosting the level above the threshold (making louder parts even louder, expanding) while upward compression is boosting below it (making quieter parts louder, so less difference between loud and quiet, compressing). Neutron 4 already had upward expansion (negative ratio).

upward compression = downward compression + gain? Also: the signal is not compressed at all. Its just a gain plug-in targeting specific levels? :)

The big issue with the voice is that it also bring up the breath… And that's really bad…

You should either use a plugin like debreath by Waves before the compression or manually suppress or smooth out the breaths after the compression is done. It’s quite a hustle I know lol. Also nowadays people like to keep their breaths noticeable to give a natural effect.

@@gioinnit00 Izotope RX 11 also can debreath i think. there are plenty of possibilities.
