Killing off izzie would have been better coz it would have saved her like it saved george in our eyes. But making her leave and only comeback when meredith told her alex was moving on was pathetic and only helped build up alex. I honestly believe from the way the characters were written, directed and acted that they were always meant to be the "end game". Once the hurt and anger had gone away Alex could only talk fondly of her. He imagined a happy and fulfilling life for her because no matter how much he felt she had hurt him there was no way he could imagine the cancer had come back and she had died. My only disappointment is that neither actor was available for the audience to see their reconciliation. They were my favourite Grey's pairing and it would have been lovely to have had just one final scene with them both together.

The two went above and beyond to help their patients, even connected with them at some point, something that Mer, Cristina, and Alex rarely did. Remember the cancer girl who loved having Izzie as her doctor? The birdwatcher who had an awake heart surgery? Izzie even stood up for Cristina and told Hahn it should be Cristina in the OR because she came up with the idea. Izzie may not be perfect but she was one of the most humane characters in the show.

Plus, Alex was at his worst when he met Izzie. Mean, rude, cold. Izzie put him in his place. She was so kind that she even befriended Alex after he posted her bikini photos around the hospital. She defended Alex when she had the chance, talked to him even when he called her names (stupid bitch in the Rebecca arc), called him out when there was the need, comforted him even when he pushed her away. Some may say Alex loved her more but I guess they both loved each other so deeply but showed and expressed it differently. Alex was always in love with Izzie. He just didn't know how to express it. Izzie always had love and concern for Alex. He broke her trust so she sought for love in others (Denny, George). You can't blame her. Alex was an ass.

Krista said the embryo tease in Season 12 was a tease as she wanted to do a Izzie and Alex embryo child/children ever since Heigl exited the series. Even Camilla Luddington(Jo) asked the producers why jo needed to know about the embryos and they told her it would come up in the future. My guess is it woupdve came up when Alex and Jo were planning to start a family and maybe Izzie wouldve made an onscreen appearence but they had to change things for Justin Chambers exit

Alex made a wrong decision. He didn’t think it through. In the finale, when he was dying from gunshot, he was calling out for Izzie. Badly written plot to get rid of Izzie. He had a tendency of pushing her away when he felt hurt, vulnerable or insecure. But if anything, that only meant that he loved her more than he could handle. Like he said here, loved her so much it hurt. He never loved Jo that way. She was just a stand-in for Izzie. I mean, I'm sure he did love her in a way, but it wasn't that all-consuming kind of love he had for Izzie. Every time he mentioned her after she left you could totally see that he never stopped loving her. Endgame. I might not like the way it happened, but damn am I glad that it did.

Someone who imagines that much details about another person means only 1 thing: they meant more to them than they are letting it show. He did not want to call Izzie and check on her because he is also afraid that what he imagined her life would be true. That is why Alex settled to reimagining her life. He is imagining her with a new family but at the same time does not want to confirm it. Also I think he is contented with Jo.

The problem lies in that this wasn’t supposed to be their final scene. Katherine Heigl was actually contracted to stay until Season 8 of the show, but she then asked to be released from her contract early. When this happened, they wrote Izzie up until the end of Season 6 - she was supposed to appear in the final five episodes or so and her story would’ve wrapped up properly with Alex (presumably she’d have been involved in the shooting in some way, though the writers have confirmed she wouldn’t have been killed off). But then when they went to film the last couple of episodes she didn’t turn up to film, and that’s why we have the bullshit departure that was left in and why there’s plot holes surrounding the closure of Alex and Izzie’s story in the latter half of the sixth season. It sucks, really was a half arsed way to say goodbye to her character and she deserved better.

like everyone, I hated how they ended this. Katherine wanted to leave so they had to write her off but I hate how the writers did it. I seriously wish so much in a way that Izzie died in the series finale. I know it sounds bad... but that way they ended loving each other. Not hating each other one bit. Not feeling anger or regret or sadness towards each other. Just love. They got married because they loved each other and didn't want to waste time. And if she died whilst it would've been sad.. they both could have known they have no regrets and they spent their time together loving each other wholeheartedly and believing in each other. And we could've seen Alex come back from it and, like Izzie did for Denny, honour his dead wife in his own way and hold a special place in his heart. But because this is how it ended when he thinks of her I doubt he would now feel love. He can't have a special place for her because they broke up. Because too much happened that was unforgivable. And I hate that. They loved each other and I think if Katherine didn't leave they would've had a happy story. But regardless.. even though it was an awful way for it all to end at least he thanked her for making him a good man, told her he wanted her to be happy and told her that he loved her so much. and at least in the finale we got to know he regretted it and wished she was there. at least we know they really loved each other:)

Heigl had actuallt adopted a child in December 2009 or Jan 2010 amd was supposed to be back on set March 1st 2010 to film her parts of the final 5 episodes for this season but she asked to be released in January after this episode aired so she could focus on building a bond with her new child. She put being a mother ahead of her grey's career. So the rumors of her not blantly showing up to set this season is false when she had left way before she was schedule to come back. Since she was released from her contract she had no obligation to return.

She got herself fired, not Alex. He went to the chief to protect her, cause he knew she wasn't ready to come back to work. She got fired because a patient died on her watch.

@@msfriendsfan4ever788 He went to the chief without talking to his wife first for her own freaking job and then he accused her that she didn't stay to talk..Hypocrite..and Alex's name came up right after Derek and Owen's who questioned her emotional stability but because Alex was her husband,Webber got what he needed and even if he had doubts,Karev made him not to question his decision at all..Karev definitely screwed Izzie and he was the reason that he lost her job..

@@foris27 No, if she hadn't lost that patient, then she wouldn't have gotten fired. Izzie came back to work, way too fast, before she was ready. Owen and Derek both noticed that. In the end, she only had herself to blame. Richard was forced to fire people due to the merger, and Izzie was one of them. Alex tried to protect her, he tried to save her job. But instead of listening to Him, she left, she only left him a note.

@@foris27 It seems like you're more upset that Karev didn't talk to her as opposed to her causing someone else's death. Sure when you're married communication is key, but it was clear she wasn't ready to come back. She did and someone died because of it.

Yes what she did was selfish and broke up George's marriage and she should never be forgiven for it by Callie but Alex was even more selfish than her he cheated on her with Olivia.. she forgave him. He ignored her DNR ... she forgave him but then he goes to the chief expressing his "concerns" knowing that ppl were being fired...he knew she could be fired but yet he went....He knew what she had been through and he knew she was living with cancer which was in remission but was living with it ... yet he went to the chief ...she did love him but his actions showed that HE didn't truly love her....had he loved her he would have given her a second chance as well.... But he didn't
