I am the person on your video that you commented about, Sifu Lazo Naumov. This has made my day, to see the person that I follow and watch on the regular on youtube comment and make a video about me. First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to actually watch my videos and give your take on them I truly appreciate it a lot. My goal is for people to be healthy and to know how to defend themselves. I would like to share something about me and what these videos that I post so far are all about I have been practicing GM William Cheung line since way back in 1990 and have a master's degree. In my address to the public with these short techniques of mine, I want to introduce them to real self-defense situations using Wing Chun techniques, but since I do not want to cause any harm on my students without them wearing safe guards I cannot perform the technique completely correctly. If my sparring partner had full protective gear like a head helmet, shield or body vest then one would see the superiority of these techniques or the full speed and efficiency possessed by Wing Chun from the William Cheung line because I in my 30 year police career I found myself in situations where I used Wing Chun and I was never overpowered and against people with a knife, baseball bat, axes or people who were in an emotional situation. I have trained many of my colleagues from the security forces of Macedonia and they accepted these techniques well, which were then useful to them in the course of their work. In the future I will show real demonstration techniques where the full effect will be seen that these Wing Chun techniques are very good for self defense. For now thank you dear friend Izzo, I regularly follow you on youtube you have wonderful videos and I see that you have a lot of knowledge of Wing Chun, but before giving a conclusion about my demonstrated techniques for these 7 months I just want you all to know that this is only for beginners and for me to show more love towards Wing Chun as a martial art because I have been practicing it all my life and it is in my blood and I will never give it up. Greetings to all Wing Chun followers in the world! Greetings from me Sifu Lazo Naumov. For more realistic techniques expect me soon, thanks again for your huge support!

Fun fact Donnie never practiced wing chun until the first ip man movie(but he did spend a while with it on his own in addition to a good 6 months of being taught wing Chun by ip Chun. ) Its also good to know that Donnie really is an extremely skilled martial artist, however majority of real fighting doesn't look good on camera . The problem with martial arts is that the conditioning comes before learning to punch and kick. Why do you think Bruce Lee was able to do pushups on his fingers and knock people out with 1 punch? If your training consists of eating McDonald's and watching MMA videos, you're not gonna have a chance. Before you challenge someone make sure you can run a mile and not be dying at the end.

More than 20 years ago I used to attend the AWTO seminars in the US when Emin Boztepe was still part of that org. We would have William Cheung students come to our seminars to check out Boztepe, and he would make a special point to show them (to put it politely) the flaws in how they approached the principles and techniques. I always remember that the one totally bizarre thing they would do was *actively* bong sau as a sort of block of a punch. Boztepe would ask these guys to come up, and then tell them to use that bong sau to stop his punch. He would feint the punch, they would turn and bong sau the air, and he'd whack them. They always left the seminars with a look on their face somewhere between "just informed Santa wasn't real" and "you drowned my puppy". It wasn't just that their stuff didn't work, they'd also now seen WC that did. Could be coincidence, could be we just saw students that weren't any good, but some of these guys were higher level, and it wasn't just technique, it was not understanding WC principles, so I've tried to steer away from "Traditional Wing Chun".

Sifu also. Teach's some BJJ to allow for ring fighting to compensate for the reduction of Wing Chun thats allowed. Westerners are soft and lazy that is why non contact martial arts are taught the teacher keeps his income the student gets flogged in his first confrontation because he doesn't know how to hit or be hit. I'm 66 long time no WC.WSL not available in Sydney I now learn from Sifu Rick Spain who I only knew little about but only good. When I first started training in wing chun it was in William Cheung's style. Even though I was a noob I had many doubts about its effectiveness. Luckily I was only there for a few months and then I found a proper school that was in the Wong Shun Leung lineage; and luckily, it was David Peterson's old school which was run by his students. Once I got into it, there was a noticible world of difference between WSL wing chun vs William Cheung wing chun. Imo 'traditional' wing chun is just pure nonsense.

@ShaolinkungfubyRadek

The problem with most wing chun practitioners (or kung fu in general) is that they apply techniques too literally. Secondly, there are too few sparring exercises (not necessarily full ones), during which one can verify one's skills and analyse various moves and how they are performed and applied. Adepts stick too rigidly to the movements they have learnt and cannot adapt them to changing situations in combat or sparring. As is the case in boxing or MMA. Fortunately, I am increasingly observing that some of them are beginning to recognise their shortcomings and are working on perfecting their movement behaviour for the fight. But I think that in the case of kung fu there is still a long way to go to return to "martial art" as fighting.
@nonanon666
@nonanon666 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no? I think it might have been a much younger @IzzoWingChun who did an excellent video on modifying your technique to fit the fight, specifically the dangers of leaning forward to force a block or strike to contact the opponent. You see it all the time; people bend forward at the waist, or use a shallower arm angle, to force a quan-sao or garn-sao to make contact. If your opponent has missed, or misjudged distance and fallen short of you, why on earth would you modify your technique to make contact? If your opponent's low strike hasn't reached your abdomen, hasn't even reached your block, that's great! Just stand there for a moment in your quan-sao hero pose unharmed like you're doing forms, and step forward with your own strike. Even worse is to lean forward at the waist to force your strike to make contact. If your strike falls short, move forward, adjust your range, and fire a new strike from a correct distance. There's a reason all the movements have very specific angles and paths, deviating from them is to suggest you know better than previous generations of Sifu and Sigung, and next thing you know you're doing flying kicks and backfists and calling your own style JKD...

The William Cheung lineage is a watered down, ineffective style of Wing Chun. When you compare it to other styles you can see where it falls short, and it falls short all over the place. I speak from my own experience when I say Cheung's style is a bad martial art, having trained in it for a while, and then having trained in the Wong Shun Leung style - there was a world of difference. For one, the footwork is at kindergarten level compared to Wong Shun Leung's style. I can go on.

@@ivanzu2069 it's always seemed to me that "success" with William Cheung lineage is a handful of fighters making it work in *spite* of it, vs some other lineages where people who aren't already fighters have a chance at being able to fight. I'm starting to think the chain punch might be at the heart of a lot of Wing Chun's issues or rather making the chain punch the heart of a Wing Chun practitioners offense might cause a lot of issues. Does that make any sense to you as a more experienced Wing Chun man?

There is politics in every branch of martial arts about "My style is the real style. The rest is garbage" but nowhere do you see that more than JKD and, ironically, wing chun. Why is that? The proliferation of the style? In BJJ, it is pretty much accepted that, even in the same school where five guys will start as white belts together, that by the time they would become a purple belt each will have gravitated to certain techniques, develop their own style (top player, de la Riva player, half guard player, etc), gain their own insight and experiences through competition and training, and may teach it differently when they become instructors. And none of them are wrong. This has been the quick history of BJJ development. Same as in boxing, or muay Thai. Same coach, same club but each student will develop their own unique style. But in wing chun, everyone claims to have lineage and yet people are quick to turn and dump on another stylist's approach as if wing chun is totally static, standardized and has no room for personal interpretation. Is it that wing chun has a very unique and often toxic culture which will eventually lead to its obsolescence?

@@assoverteakettleI agree in essence with what you say. I have over thirty years in WC and almost quit due to politics. From my perspective it stems from several issues. First that some have vested interests, whether that be business or cultural. From my personal experience Chinese living in the West seem to think that promising one thing and delivering another is their prerogative. However, travel to HK and the attitude seems very different. Then there are the ex karate people who found that WC was marketable, possibly took some classes and more likely read a few books. Combined, much of WC has been watered down or taught as some exclusive style ie: WSL, VT or perhaps Traditional. Lastly I grow tired of the, you have to spar nonsense. Sparring can have its place so long as its approached in a manner that develops WC skill and not just jumping about like a third rate boxer, otherwise go and train boxing. For those with experience in the ring know that sparring can develop good and bad habits. Its not just a matter of ‘sparring’ you should have a purpose.
