As a dog owner I will reinforce that you are doing the right thing. Too many people give up on a young dog rather than train them. I noticed that Layla was grabbing Izzie’s fur while playing with her. While Izzie is away this is a good opportunity for you to work with Layla and reinforce good dog skills like not pulling hair and being gentle. It could not only help her relationship with Izzie but keep her safe from being snapped at by another dog if she approaches it the same way. It is possible! I believe with training for Izzie and teaching Layla they will once again be best friends! Good for you for taking these steps for a happy household with a furry family member!

I was thinking the same thing! Except she should get two or three from Erin because she has become such a great cook. Let’s see … Zach, Michael, Erin, Carlin, and Josie should all have good recipes. If I remember right, Tori doesn’t like to cook but she might have a go-to recipe to share. I know Alyssa has a few she does really well so Katie can FaceTime with her or go down to Florida for a couple of weeks. And she should top it off with a trip to New Jersey to learn Travis’ favorite meal from his mom! “Katie’s cooking lessons“ could make for some fun episodes for the show next season!

Good for you, putting the safety of your child first, and seeing to the training of your dog. Many years ago, I took my 2 year old Godson to visit friends who had a dog. Not our first visit, I was unconcerned. A sound from outside startled the dog, who knows what triggered thus, but the dog then bit my Godson. Whole face in the dog’s mouth. Hours in the ER, plastic surgeon, still scars. Only took a moment, generally calm dog. Izzy seemed enthusiastic when meeting the trainer again. Not everyone has the skill or other means to effectively train a dog. Kudos to you for making the commitment, despite it being so heartbreaking.

@@rachealh5860 you keep popping up in every comment I read with that same sentence. I use an electronic shock collar for my male rottie when he goes out potty at night bc he tends to bark a lot and is hard to get back in. I trained him only using the beeping and the vibrate. I have never shocked him once but I have trained him successfully with the collar. I'm not saying that all people do that, I would never shock my dog unless I was faced with a dangerous situation that involved him and he was wearing it. I agree, I don't think shocking a dog is good but I use the collar without the shocking technique and it works great. Maybe they do too? I guess it's no different then an invisible fence for dogs. Those are quite common. We have a chain link fence. I also use a small prong collar on my female and male rotties while walking them. They are not the huge bulky scarey looking prong collars but the smallest size that gives enough quick correction when needed. These dogs weigh more than I do and are pure muscle. If they don't pull it doesn't effect them and if they need a quick correction I am able to do so. They don't wear the prong collar in the house or in the back yard, they only wear a prong when out in public or on walks just so I always have control.

Izzy snapping at Layla is communication. Izzy is saying, “Stop that!” “I don’t like that!” So while I applaud you for realizing that this was out of your realm of knowledge, you’ll also need to establish boundaries from Layla’s side too. I love you all and don’t mean this to be rude but I have seen too many pets given away because the owner wasn’t trained properly. I understand training is important for Izzy, but the problem with this kind of training is you two aren’t getting training. Dogs communicate nonverbally. You have to learn to understand your dog as well as them understanding you. They need to learn not to play rough, but they can’t tell you “that hurts!” In this video you allowed Layla to grab Izzy’s fur, pull her to her, and squeeze her neck. As cute as it is that Layla loves Izzy, that can hurt your dog. Training Izzy will not stop her from telling Layla to stop hurting her the only way she knows how. You have to monitor their interactions and teach Layla how to properly handle Izzy. You have to know if Izzy comes inside and is growling when someone comes near her paw that (can) mean she hurt her paw and is in pain. If you don’t understand how they communicate you may get rid of Izzy because she growled/snaped at your kids when she was actually communicating she is in pain and your kids wouldn’t leave her alone. This is one of many examples of how they communicate differently. You can train them to behave better but you will not train them to stop trying to communicate. You need to take time to learn your side of things too.

Completely agree, it’s good they’re having Izzy trained but the way Layla acts around Izzy shows that she needs to be trained how to act around dogs too. No wonder poor Izzy has snapped at Layla on occasion.

@@princesscariad374 I agree. Parents want to blame the dog instead of teaching the child how to behave around them. And puppies like to bite. And if they don’t know what to do, no amount of training will work. I know because I am a terrible dog trainer - no consistency

Glad your not giving up Izzy but.. You need to make sure you keep up what the trainer has taught her when she comes back, make sure he trains you as parents too - no bad dogs out there just parents who don't know how to handle a dog, as a dog lover pls step up ur game, dogs are hard work but worth it. Don't take this as negative feedback, not intended as that, love you guys.

Try lining a bowl with aluminum foil, pour the grease into that ,then place in refrigerator until cool. Pull the ends of the aluminum up and twist together and toss into the trash. Grease isn’t good for the soil around your home, it can cause rats or mice or other critters .

All puppies do that. Also when i was growing up all my dogs saw me as equal part of the pack. I guess they see the parents in charge and the kid on same level height and equal. All my dogs grew out of it. Also the yellow lab I had was the worst puppy but best dog ever. No matter how much training you just can't keep. Puppy from chewing all the time and nibbling. It's more of a playful nip then a bite. Still scary and in appropriate. But as long as when you saw it you corrected her. She would 90 percent grow out of it. But she will be more behaved. Just make sure Layla also gets better with understanding what Izzy likes she is old enough to understand how dogs communicate. Yal are doing great. I thought most obedience schools did allow dogs one visit home? Hope she does get one. That's a long time. I would be worried she would come back trained but have separation anxiety for life. But I'm no expert
