Agree, 3 hour movie that went by very quickly. I felt Costner was trying to give an authentic representation of the panorama of life in the west in the second half of the 1800s, so there are multiple story lines, which people complained didn't link up, but that's how life is, all our stories don't link up. Still I found it engaging. Definitely will be watching part two. My two sons, who are in their twenties all rated it highly.

I'm a lot younger than Bill but I remember James Russo in a move with Farrah Fawcett in a movie called Extremities. Where her played a rapist who had initially tried to rape Farrah Fawcett's character. She goes to the police and they do not really help her. Then he breaks into her house and tries to attack her again. But she's able to subdue him, but she's afraid the police won't believe her, as the rapist says as much. So she basically debates killing him outright.

I saw Horizon it’s really hard to review or recommend bc it really is 1/4 of the story even though it’s three hours. It ends abruptly with none of the stories resolved. It’s not a bad thing though it’s just tough to have a solid opinion on. It ends more in a tv style than something like the original Star Wars movies which any of those can stand on their own separately. Again not a bad thing just different. I enjoyed it and there’s some jaw dropping beautiful nature shots. It’s just a lot like trying to tell someone they will love a tv show when there’s only one episode out

I think the hate on this movie is mostly because people is repulsed by Costner’s gut. They hate him for having the money to go against the system & not having to bow down or adhere to any rules. They hate him for being able to do anything that he wants. Costner’s existence is a threat to people’s conventional wisdom & beliefs on how a movie is supposed to be-the run time it should be, the format, the ratio, the pacing, the number of characters, the media. Costner shits on all those rules & that’s why people are hating on the movie. But it’s actually a damn good movie. I saw it twice in the theatre. 2nd viewing was even better. The cinematography is beautiful, that walk uphill between Costner & Jamie C. Bower will be a CLASSIC. People will regret not seeing this in the theatre.

I think the hate came from the nature of it being part 1 of 4 where there were a lot of story lines, that probably pay off in the future, but really didn't pay off in Episode 1. It makes for a long (3 Hours) and unfocused movie. I suspect it would have made a better miniseries than movie. I'm not surprised it didn't do well at the box office due to bad word of mouth. To me it's a movie I'd rather watch after all 4 parts are out. I'll probably skip all other parts until every part is out. If they are going to make a 12 hour movie, I'll wait until they release a 12 hour movie.

I watched it and it was good. But I like westerns and don't mind long movies. The problem is hoping that people would want to go watch a 3-hr movie in theatres in the summer, in addition to going in aware that it's not the complete story and more would be coming later. It's unlikely that a mass audience would be interested in that, not in this Tik-Tok attention-span era we currently live in. I understand the love of movie-making and wanting it to be seen on the big screen, but I'm sure more people would take to it as a multi-part mini-series on a streaming platform.

Way too many characters! It's three hours of them pretty much introducing everyone and you get very little of their story. The horrible editing doesn't do any justice because it leaves large chunks out, so all of a sudden your months ahead in the timeline and you don't even know how you got there. Horizon does have potential if it was a miniseries and each episode could dive more into the characters and and their backstory so you could actually care about them. C-

My dad watched this and hated it, first hour great, exciting, well-paced, good stakes, then devolving into this schmaltzy cartoonish sentimental bs. And i have to agree, it has sitcom levels of overly comedic moments between characters and really dragging its feet with every scene, padding the story out so much that nothing of importance happens much of the time, did we really need soldiers stealing a bed or glaring at a naked women or this laughably silly blonde-haired villain chatting away at Costner’s character. I liked it a lot better when it focused on the town that got attacked and them trying to rebuild, also the scenes with the Native Americans were really good, also great attention to detail and care put into the backgrounds of every shot. Can’t fault Costner on the production quality. But the direction and writing, is really dragging it down, it really is a shame becuz everyone is doing their best clearly making this movie and Costner is turning it into his vanity project

Part 2 isn't coming out in August anymore because of how poorly part 1 performed. I saw this last week and was disappointed in it overall. 😞

Movie would have been a lot better if he told one story at a time. The editing was plain messy. I think it was well acted and was engaging but I think the decision to tell 3 stories at the same time and not get anywhere close to finishing them was a bad move. They should have just left out the Luke Wilson part until part 2 because why are we being introduced to new characters 3/4 into the movie?

Part two will come out once he figures part one has made enough money and the critics go get a life.

Netflix is going to invest and show the rest of the storyline. They (Netflix) is suggesting it be turned into a series like Yellowstone.

I loved it. I took the ending as a nod to the Back to the Future 3 trailer at the end of Back to the Future 2. Also nice on The Critic reference

couldnt agree more, and a real shame that these people wield such influence still. Horizon felt it was like Lonesome Dove (one of the great western mini series) but for cinema. The part one of lonesome was a lot of set up, same with this movie, but still was great. I think the difference is this starts with separate stories that will end up integrating where as lonesome was kind of the opposite, hope all 4movies gets made, will love to be able to watch marathon some day.

Good. Not great. looking forward to part 2 and part 3. But Taylor Sheridan still rules. The narrative alone in 1883 is POETIC and epic.

I was in when it was announced (Costner...epic...Western), and even after reading bad reviews. I love it - it's genuinely moving and beautiful (every shot is filmed that way), and I wasn't bored - I was expecting (and wanting) an epic Western, and that's what I got.

Nah bruh, other than a couple good action set pieces, it was pretty bad. The tone between characters felt like a Roland Emmerich movie. It had a very 90's tone. Also, none of the characters felt authentic. 1883 TV mini-series was actually better.

If anyone can Costner can; Dances with Wolves was nothing short of a masterpiece, so much so Avatar essentially used the premise... very well. From what's been shown Horizon looks great and I can't wait to see what John Hillcoat does with Blood Meridian- here's to a Western renaissance folks! 📯🍻

Old Dads is almost a guy's guy movie. The three Dads were all afraid of their wives. What old guy movie features leads that are afraid of women? Even Bill's movie folded on the empowerment over stupid toxic masculinity, making it one of those movies against the Horizon type man. They didn't need to be aggressive or combative, but being able to express themselves to their wives or have a normal conversation with a woman who isn't a topless dancer would have better for the guy's guy image.

Excellent film. Acting: 10 Score: 10 Cinematography: 10 Costumes:10 Historical accuracy:10 This is the type of film Hollywood used to make. Costner spares no expense on quality, and it tells a gritty non sugar coated reality of how brutal and hard the frontier life truly was for everyone involve. I see plenty of people clearly with an agenda, especially, hit peace articles trying to tear this movie down because they don't like the fact it betrays native Americans in any sort of negative light, despite the fact of the film show's brutality on all sides and it simply doesn't water down the facts or the truth...the wild West frontier was unbelievably barbaric and full of struggle and constant death, and this movie gives a modern, fresh look at that reality without compromising on the facts because of political correctness, or any of this garbage we're so used to, today. I'm a big history buff, and I've researched a mass amount of history as it interests me greatly. This movie, is one of the most accurate betrayals I can think of that shows the barbarity that took place that often isn't depicted realistically in a lot of movies. The only one that comes to mind I can think of is the massacre in Last of the Mohicans, where a film did an excellent job showing just how brutal the frontier can be, but make no mistake of this film, it's truly a good representation of the hardships. The film doesn't try to wag its finger at the audience or preach to them or any of that other crap, coming out of Hollywood. It is a good old school saga. It's something that should be produced more these days instead of this constant preachy garbage that audiences are tired of with having things shoved down their throats. This was an excellent film and most people have actually watched the movie liked it. The movie held my family's interests and we were surprised when three hours was up. When you can watch a three hour movie and the ending comes before you realize it, that speaks volumes about the quality of the storytelling and have a hold your interests..I've sat through plenty of three hour movies and wondered how much longer it was going to be. The fact that the so called critics are coming out in force to try to tear the film down even before it was released should tell you something. As consumers, we should be thankful that there's still people like Costner out there willing to spend their own money to try to produce something of quality for our viewing pleasure, instead of this nastiness, I see from people that have an illogical hatred toward the man and therefore spew nonsense about his project.
