Deze J. C. Kellner is de zoon van Johann Peter Kellner, die een vriend en een leerling was van Johann Sebastian Bach.
J. P. Kellner werkte samen met J.S.Bach en vermenigvuldigde veel composities van Bach.
Een belangrijke overlevingsplaats dus voor composities van J. S Bach.
In de deelstaat Sachsen / Thüringen komen relatief veel bekwame organisten voor in de tijd tussen ruwweg 1700 en 1840.
Waar ligt dit aan?
Dit vroeg ik aan Peter Harder, de organist van het orgel dat J. P. Kellner bespeelde te Gräfenroda. Peter Harder is voorzitter van het Johann-Peter-Kellner-Gesellschaft.

Peter Harder vertelde me dat het grote aantal goede organisten in Sachsen / Thüringen niet ligt niet aan het feit dat de familie Bach in Sachsen / Thüringen werkzaam was.
Het komt vanwege het beleid van de vorst van Sachsen / Thüringen die had ingesteld dat zonen die in het koor van de kerk zongen gratis schoolboeken kregen.
In het geval deze zonen schoolmeester / organist werden dan behoefden zij geen militaire verplichtingen te vervullen.
Het lijkt erop dat in Sachsen / Thüringen tussen ruwweg 1700 en 1830 veel meer organisten werkzaam waren dan in ander deelstaten van Duitsland.
JOHANN CHRISTOPH KELLNER (1736-1803)
Geboren in Gräfenroda, Thüringen, Duitsland, studeerde muziek bij zijn vader, Johann Peter Kellner (1705-1772).
In 1754 verhuist Kellner naar Gotha om bij Georg Benda te studeren.
In 1755 keert hij weer naar huis terug.
Tijdens een studiereis woont Kellner tussen 1762 en 1763 in Amsterdam en Den Haag.
Bij zijn terugkeer wordt Kellner aangesteld als organist en cantor in de Lutherse kerk te Kassel.
Een functie die Kellner vanaf 1773 combineert met die van organist van de Rooms-Katholieke kerk in dezelfde stad.
Kellner schreef een succesvolle verhandeling over muziektheorie getiteld 'Grundriss des Generalbasses' Op. 16 (Kassel, 1783, 1796).
De meeste van zijn composities zijn klavierwerken in een galante stijl, met homofone texturen en heldere, liedachtige melodieën zoals in dit opgenomen PRAELUDIUM in C.
Zijn composities kom je tegen in 18e-eeuwse collecties.

I asked to Peter Harder, the organist of the organ that J. P. Kellner played in Gräfenroda. Peter Harder is chairman of the Johann-Peter-Kellner-Gesellschaft.

Peter Harder told me that many good organists in Sachsen / Thuringia are not due to the fact that the Bach family worked in Sachsen.
It is because of the policy of the prince of Saxony / Thuringia who had given free books to sons who sang in the choir of the church.
In the event that these sons became schoolmasters/organists, they did not have to fulfill any military obligations.
JOHANN CHRISTOPH KELLNER
was born in Gräfenroda, Thuringia, Germany, where he studied music with his father, Johann Peter Kellner (1705-1772).
In 1754 Kellner moved to Gotha to study with Georg Benda.
He returned home again in 1755.
During an extensive study trip, Kellner went on to live in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1762 and 1763.
On his return, Kellner was appointed organist and cantor in the Lutheran church in Kassel.
A position which Kelnner combined, from 1773 onwards, with that of organist of the Roman Catholic church in the same town.

Aha, dat je daar bij de fermata een cadens kan spelen vind ik een leuke ontdekking; kan het zelf ook wel eens proberen... Aha, that you can play a cadens at that fermata point is a nice discovery; I ought to try it myself as well... Nicely played, as always.

In de Trumpet Tune heb ik ook de Octaaf 4 in het pedaal en meer, daar klinkt het pedaal iets luider. Overigens vind ik het pedaalgeluid hier ook prima hoor.
