A lot of people saying J. Cole backed out because he was scared are being disingenuous. He just felt pressure to drop a diss track he didn't want to. He couldn't even get through an entire song without overtly making clear that he's apprehensive about dissing his boy. Also, everyone knows that, historically, at the heart of every rap beef is two niggas who absolutely can't stand each other. I don't know why folk who are trying to shit on Cole's capabilities as a rapper are being so deliberately obtuse, because even if he did go through with the beef, where was it going to go?
@rtoriq6 ай бұрын
What I’ve realized with most people is they, in covert ways, walk around with a “lie to me!” mentality. They really do. Just like that track didn’t sit right with him, it didn’t sit right with me either. It’s felt sooo weird and forced bc I was like “not THESE two, NO”. Man what would they even have to beef over? I felt like I was a teacher and my 2 brightest students started beefing with each other, when they were just fine with each other before knowing details of their test scores lol. But he owned up to it, and that’s that.
@smaaron_j_466 ай бұрын
I’d say that he initially did want to make the diss, and the reason why he suddenly switched up was because that he was warned. Warned that things with Kendrick and Drake would go south. And while he did express some hesitation on 7 Minute Drill, he also said some things to suggest “Hey, if this is what I have to do, fuck it, I’m locked in”. And since the person who gave him the warning is none other than ScHoolboy Q, I firmly believe it was Kendrick who sent him to decline the battle, which to me is what really makes Cole’s hate train disingenuous. It’s impossible for him to lose a battle his opponent declined.

@BuddhaMelffyQueen What skeletons? An artist as big as Cole would've had those skeletons out years ago. The real reason why Kendrick won that beef was because Drake had very obvious, public issues and controversies and Dot simply shoved them back down Drake's throat. Cole, just like Kendrick, doesn't have that many controversies outside of saying a thing or two in a song that made people mad for a week. What killed Drake was him eliminating any credibility to his diss tracks by making up stories about Kendrick's family. Kendrick didn't reveal anything we didn't already know or suspect about Drake, which isn't to take anything away from him because he masterfully pestered him with these condemnations. He wouldn't have had such an advantage with Cole, if he did, it would have to be some incriminating information and if it's that bad, people are gonna question why Kendrick was sitting on that kind of information.
@zandisiwetayi99776 ай бұрын
@@smaaron_j_46 I do realize that he was ultimately ready to spar with Kendrick and ScHoolboy Q pretty much talked him out of it. It's the reason why Q talked him out of it that folks are being dense about. Like you said, Q talked Cole out of the beef because he made it clear that Kendrick actually hates Drake and it's not about competition, so because Cole is both homies with Dot and Drake, he wanted no part of it. People trying to downplay Cole are acting like he dodged some bullet lmao, fuck outta here.

@BuddhaMelffyQueen That Heart Part 6 reference is a false equivalency. What I'm saying is for an artist as big as Cole, there would've been at least a rumor of him doing some shady shit. I’m with you. Cole is a legend in his own right. He has captured the hearts of a generation. When he’s on fire, his bars are unmatched. He will carry on in Cole fashion, and there will always be people who want to count him out. It’s a shame he got caught up in the beef. It’s K Dot’s time to shine right now. He laid down that whoopin, and used his victory lap to unite warring factions in his home town, as he should. He’s gotta have his moment. J Cole will have many more moments. He was right to back out of a very personal, ugly battle.

J. Cole is beloved because most of us are just as average. And wearing it is a good look. All he has to do is be consistent, and remain relatable.

Based on what they represent and how they approach their music and goals behind the music, they equal 3 legends from the past. Drake is the equivalent to Michael Jackson, Kendrick is the equivalent to Prince, and Cole is the equivalent to Bob Marley. Drake makes the more popular music, Kendrick makes music to express himself and the result of it follows, and Cole makes music that contributes to the spirit and expressing love and peace through it. All equally important and have different impacts on a person depending on the person or the what they’re going through at the time.

Im sure Cole is doing deliberate things to make it appear he is falling off. I mean, his upcoming album is literally called “The Fall Off”. Im sure he will not disappoint
@themonarch6206 ай бұрын
Okay let me tell my point of view on this beef. Kendrick and Cole have a long history as friends, Cole and Drake too. So what i see is that Kendrick took his chance to once and for all get over Cole as Greatest without a doubt. For Kendrick it was a chance to hit both Drake and Cole, Two birds with one stone. Kendrick would never get a leverage on Cole because Cole is clean on all sides. Literaly a person with no weakness. And Kendrick somehow saw a gap in that perfect defense by connecting him to Drake. Even if you think it was only bad for Drake, Cole's image as a possible goat is destroyed by this move. Truly a check and mate by Kendrick. The only way Cole has a chance to be in the goat coversation is to drop an undisputed classic hip hop album that overshadows his connection with Drake. The Fall Off will be the deciding album of his career. Will he stay as a legend that never reached goat status or a new gen GOAT that defines his generation.
@kimzziereenee16386 ай бұрын
I 90% agree with your analysis!! However, Kendrick made a fatal error-he did NOT take the body shot Cole offered with his “apology”. Therefore, he left the door open for the lyrical competition with Cole we have been looking for. IMHO, Kendrick can absolutely claim victory from this beef with Drake and all of the accolades that accompany that win, BUT until his pen is challenged by the only other rapper that has been deemed to go against him, he can’t be called GOAT-just yet. @themonarch620

Not all of it is bops or culture shaking, but when you relate to one of his songs and you can feel him talking about something youre going through at the moment it hits you like a truck. I dig this. Cole is like literally in the middle but he had always maintained that image of being the "person" rather than the "rapper". It's how I became a fan honestly. Kendrick embraces his past and wear it on his sleeves but with Drake it's like he become a completely different person 🤔.

I agree. Considering how things have escalated now, J Cole is the one laughing. Sure, he may have made some corny Drake style songs on his new album but he's winning. That is what I call a strong minded man. He did not give in to peer pressure and ADMITTED that this wasn't something he was comfortable doing, especially to someone he personally knows. Drake is now having his yard shot up, his stores vandalised and is being labelled a child sex offender by the general public. I can't recall I have seen anyone getting this torn up by a rap beef since 50 Cent did Ja Rule.
