the fact that Kendrick started at 13 and only really debut in the mainstream at 25 shows why hes able to draw numbers like he does -- that time meant practice, work, skill. meanwhile, new rappers barely have a year of trying and theyre getting catapulted to the mainstream, where it becomes apparent they have no skill, determination or patience. thats why hip hop has an aging problem. the gatekeepers are gone so the new crop are not being weeded out for only the best

I’ve heard of Kendrick, but I’ve never really cared for hip hop or rap. Over time, I’ve found some artists I like but Kendrick only hit my radar when the beef with Drake blew up. I loved his diss tracks and almost left it at that. Then I listened to Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. To this day, I have never felt more understood or seen. Every single track connected to me in such a way, that even though our lives were different and I’ve never met him, this man is a kindred spirit. Key words to emphasize though: *a work of ART* You’re correct, Kendrick is a pure *artist* in every sense of the word - artistic genius though, is not the same as *rap* genius, that’s the issue that hip hop purists have with this topic. Kendrick does *NOT* meet the mark of what a rap purist would define as the greatest or most skilled rapper, he’s a talented rapper for sure, his pen is highly respectable most definitely, but he is, by far, not the best to ever do it nor does he come close to having what could be considered an untouchable or even nearly untouchable pen. Like I said in another comment, Michael Jackson is regarded as untouchable artistic musical royalty, but he has never been regarded as being an untouchable singer when talking about technical skill, or even range vocally. Creative genius and technical skill are 2 entirely different things and that’s where y’all take the wrong turn in these conversations cause y’all are classing them as being the synonymous when that couldn’t be further from reality.

kendrick is one of the only rappers that has already avoided many of the materialism downfalls, but feels a responsibility. something most artists or rappers ever try. A kanye, or a drake, both have put off responsibilities and have went to the absurd, and meanwhile I see kendrick sit with rick rubin, just talking quietly and calmly. He represents a much higher part of spirituality and walking the boring long-term sucessful route. Kendrick will never stop improving if it goes like that. I can't think of a single rapper that has been to de-materialize the matters of their life and move within themselves and stay consistent with it. it's amazing. he is winning but it ain't glamourous. he's just a good study of life in general.

Not only did this age exceptionally well, it really is a phenomenal video that paints a beautiful picture of his career without droning on for several hours. It’s long enough to be thorough but short enough to maintain attention and I appreciate that.

His song "I" was part of what saved my life after everything fell apart. I was homeless, heartbroken, hungry, cold, and had long given up. The first time i heard it, it destroyed me. But i listened to it like my theme song and slowly gained the will to give a shit. Its why i even gave the relationship that got me off the street a chance. Its why i didn't give up after 100's of failed applications. Enjoying all of his music after that just came natural Its a weird combination but Kendrick Lamar's music and Gintama saved my life.

15:57 I absolutely would hate when people would compare Jcole and Kendrick. J Cole is a great rapper, but Kendrick Lamar is a LEGEND
