I'm not from the US but from Germany. Read his book in English and I found it to be a good read. The German version is no longer available in this country. Oh holy democracy. JD sounds like a reasonable man in this Podcast.

I would like to remind people who are saying he flipped over night his flip was over the course of about five years and just remember Ronald was extremely liberal (from a conservative perspective) back in 1940s and 50s and wasn't Republican till 1962

He is an honest person. Now I respect him also as a political candidate. He is trying to be fair in his reflections on his own life and the experiences of people, beyond the stereotypes and noise in our society today. Wish he just didn't join up with Trump though. He is a fine political representative anyhow

I tried to find the movie on KZbin. What I found was a retelling of the events of the story but more importantly was a disclaimer in the beginning that the story was fiction and was created in the imagination of the author and bares no resemblance to persons or events. However people and this show call it a memoir?.

@@ralphlee6386, I served from 1999-2007, after being told by BUMED that I couldn't in 1995 due to medication I took in 1980 when I was 3. I'm a 9/11 Marine, that deployed after, and fucking loved it! It's not certain what you meant by your comment, but it does look like you're taking Vance's side. I don't know shit about Vance, and didn't even know about him until the Trump announcement. I'm voting Trump, BTW. Also, I just learned that he served in the Marines. The only reason I'm here is because I was watching a preview of Hillbilly Elegy and then read the Wikipedia post about him, landing me here. Look, I'm not trying to start shit, but I'm not sure we should be backing Vance right after the announcement. After hearing that he is a Marine and said what he did about Trump years ago, that pissed me off! Made it sound like he joined after 9/11 for political brownie points! Just like Tulsi Gabbard did. I've hated her from day one, but some have latched onto here. Tulsi could have joined before 9/11, but waited a few years, until it was politically expedient for her. Yeah, I'm not yet on board with this Vance guy, by a long shot. So, maybe you should tone down the bullshit until we know what he's really all about? BTW, when did you join and how far did you make it in the USMC? USMC 1999-2007

J. D. Vance is one of President's Trump's greatest political blunders, and the way things are shaking out, it could play a major role in President Trump losing an otherwise easy contest, by the greatest margin in the history of our nation.

That's not true. It's a good, solid choice for many reasons. He's normal, and will be viewed by many as dependable. He plays well in the blue collar/rust belt. He's from the Senate, so will be instrumental in working with Senate Republicans and Congressmen to pass important legislation. Those saying he's a "bad pick" are sorely mistaken.

@@bizzwoofer I think the reason people are saying he's a 'bad pick' is because he doesn't broaden Trump's appeal to immigrants, black people, women, or LGBT+ groups, or people that prioritize the needs of these groups. Whereas now the opponent is a prospective first female President, something many Americans have been looking forward to for a long time.

@@bizzwoofer It is true. J. D. Vance represents President Trump cashing in, instead of him choosing Tulsi Gabbard who would have been him trying to unite our nation, and taking the path toward having a fair distribution of our nation's unlimited wealth. Now, he could lose everything.
