Slowed down the amount I am posting because I'm working on new types of content and I am finishing the edit for a Documentary... it should have been completed already but I got sidetracked breaking this beat down. AND HOOOOLYYY this was one of the hardest videos I've ever done. Hopefully it was worth all the effort and me sidetracking my main responsibilities lol. Technically speaking this has to be one of the greatest sample based beats of all time.

they had korg samplers in the mid 80s that could hold 4x 8s samples (or one long one), marley marl used 2 + a record player to make Erik B and Rakim beats on Erik B for President Dilla in the mid 1990s could figure it out easy if he needed to 😂
@daniel_dumile11 ай бұрын
Also if you pay attention in Dilla time it said Dilla had access to semi-pro studios basically since he was a late teenager so as much as he was an early MPC junkie it's not like that was the only gear he has access to especially after he linked up with QTip
@timsohn705710 ай бұрын
By the time Dilla was a producer, sequencers existed. He most likely did all this on the MP. Either way, when he first did it he most likely used his ears to do it. There weren’t on screen DAWS yet that had had the robust functions we have now. So either way, Dilla was pretty insane

@@mattjones6323 some do, I’d agree. Vast majority of music listeners? I doubt they appreciate or understand how intricate sampling a song or multiple songs can be. I’m still learning how drum programming and sample interpolation and so on are part of the process of sampling and music production in general. It’s fascinating and I’ve come to appreciate it more in my older age.

Dollar bullies ripping tracks wholesale (Puffy) and laying a beat over it made people think sampling was gratuitous. The late 90s/mid 00s was a bit of a backslide for many hip hop artists as far as sampling creativity. JD is expert level sampling. Guys like him and Doom put in tons of work. Other lazier people create tarnish on the art.

Back in the day we work at our craft, unfortunately it seems like today more people are complaining about gear not being enough. Maybe this why music not like it use to be.. Try Pause taping, now that's less AND THEY DID MORE! We need more producing less excuses. Have a great day people!😎

@17-.11 ай бұрын
@@Narokx I honestly have no idea. The vocals and the beat go together so well it's like which came first the chicken or the egg? Realistically though it seems easier to record the vocals and then chop it up after, unless the MCs had enough control to pause when he cued the chops. Whatever the method was, the outcome was sublime.
