Wow! This is very interesting. J.E.B. Stuart is probably my favorite Confederate hero! Hello, from Valdosta, GA. All of my ancestors fought for the Confederacy(mustered in at Americus, GA). My great great great grandfather fought in several battles and was wounded at Gettysburg, but he made it home.

JEB's wife, Flora Cooke Stuart, had so many tragedies in her young life...losing a child(maybe two), losing her precious husband and brother, family disputes (with her father), etc. She wore black for the rest of her life after J.E.B.'s untimely death. RIP, Flora and JEB

It’s interesting that the Union raid against Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart arose out of a dispute between Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan and Maj. Gen. George G. Meade and the role of Union cavalry. Sheridan wanted the cavalry to be an independent offensive weapon. Meade saw the cavalry used in its traditional role of screening and reconnaissance. The Battle of Yellow Tavern and the death of Stuart vindicated Sheridan’s position. However, Sheridan’s primary military objective as a raid on Richmond didn’t achieve this objective. But it did take J.E.B. Stuart out of the fight. So in that sense, Sheridan was right and successful. Respectfully, W.S.

Sheridan was not a hair on the butt of Jeb Stuart.

Why do you use this forum to be so crass, disrespectful and rude?' (In addition to being wrong) They were both outstanding officers.

@@garymorris1856 The Sheridan I read of is worthy of all the shame he earned burning down the Shenandoah valley and a host of other " victories over defenseless opposition." But, truth is Sherman was WORSE. And truth is not always kind.

@@johnnycooper657 It's called total war, not always justified, but sometimes quite necessary, although I wouldn't expect you to understand it.

@@garymorris1856 Totally logical, if you're a true Yankee or a terrorist. But America ain't innocent when it comes to making war on the civilian population. Just ask the truly abused natives of this country. But they learned well from the English.

I am very glad to see that his grave has not been vandalized like so many other Confederate graves and monuments, It sickens me when I hear of this happening.

Hopefully those animals will stay away from this honorable man's final resting place!

@@quadrajet I agree. I will never understand this kind of thing. Absolutely nothing is accomplished by vandalizing monuments, etc.
