I think the fact that they had an actually full sized puppet before they decided to go full cgi helped. They had perfect refrence for lighting and scale, something modern blockbusters usually don't bother with and create a full cgi backdrop which ruins immersion. The guy who designed the Bug created a version that could talk without being disguised as Edgar, but could barely move. In the original draft of MIB's script, J would talk with the Bug for many minutes about the mysteries of the universe, but that version of the script and the version of the Bug that could talk but hardly move got scrapped because the movie wouldn't get anywhere if they kept it.

Where did you get that? Their conservation status says nothing like that, they're very easy to reproduce and can be sold as pets. If it is true that they had to count them, it was most likely to maintain consistency between shots.

There are several families and species of cockroaches and many of them have very specific habitats. That said, Madagascar hissing Cockroaches aren't REMOTELY the same as "household" cockroaches. Literally five minutes in Wikipedia, dude. It's not that hard.

I always loved this part.Even the cockroach transformation was disgusting the way how he pulled his skin apart to unleash that beast.😝😝😝😝.I always wondered how that nasty sick bug guy was able to fit himself into that into Ed's body after removing his skin anybody got a clue?.

Because it's a FICTIONAL MOVIE. Otherwise it would make no sense, his body would be all curled up, and the cockroach would have no way of "controlling" Edgar.
