A trippy jam by one of the greatest musicians ever, I've heard he played the piano himself on this track.

Jimi Hendrix was also quite taken by that area. He and the band rented horses and rode out to "Rainbow Bridge" along Lake Powell. I water skied under it once back when the lake was full. It's a hike or horseback ride again. Hendrix had come out to visit Bob Dylan who was in inpatient care in Arizona. You can also hear Hendrix refer to "Arizona's New Red Sands" in the song Voo Doo Child (not Voo Doo Chile a Slight Return) .

Very fortunate and thankful to have seen J.J. Cale live 2 times before he passed away. Him and Leon Russell were 2 of the best I ever saw live. The first time in the late 70's at an outdoor concert - Waylon Jennings also on that bill. Also Cheryl Ladd was touring with Waylon's band at the time as a background singer, with a few duets. Some FINE times 😂💪🎸
@williamchellis480521 күн бұрын
Wow, JJ and Waylon at the same venue? Do you recall where that was? When it was? Had seen a YT comment once mentioning such an event. Be great to find an old concert lineup bill for that one. Maybe in some old newspapers. Make a cool poster on my wall. BTW... Love Waylon's version of 'Louisiana Woman' here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJCXnqWObJ5nkK8si=bmpLkvqRc76cUfrQ

@@williamchellis4805 Thanks for your reply. Will let you know what I recall for sure and also a few things I am a bit foggy on looking back. It was an outdoor concert on a Sunday afternoon and it was in central Ohio, 1 hour outside of Columbus. Went there specifically to see J.J. Cale but Waylon Jennings was the headliner and he was awesome too. My best guess is that this was in 1978 or 1979. The part I can't quite remember, but I am pretty sure about, is that Robbie Robertson, of the Band, played there that day also. I never saw a poster for it, just heard about it on the radio -- and it was not part of a big festival or something like that. But now your post has me curious too. I will do some research and find it -- and if you see anything on it please post it. J.J. was everything you might expect -- times 10 ! Christine Lakeland was not with him then, but I did see her too, another time later, with J.J.

Not fair to Clapton and Knopfler. Both developed a very special and unique style. I believe JJ Cale was fundamental in their evolution as musicians, though. It's filiation, calling it thievery is a gross misunderstanding of the career of these three musicians and how the musical world works. To be clear, Clapton and Knopfler are no match for JJ Cale in my eyes (ears ?). Knopfler is an outstanding musician I like a lot (Clapton is genius, too) but JJ Cale speaks to my heart, that's it.

So.i would hold up albums in the air and if I got thumbs up by the fellow brothers I'd play it. I know every band to this day. And the JJ Cale album shelter(raccoon on front) was the most played and 7 fell in love with the damn music. This man is laid back singing and playing... I have loved JJ since the 70's. Always been on my playlist. This is SUPERB music... thank you so much. Oh, I saw him back in the day. Most laid back concert ever. Just him on a stool under a red light on a totally black stage. PURE. That was all I could feel, just pure music. He was a conduit to another level of resonance.

its terrible shame that more live or studio clips of this old guy dont seem to exist. Cant find anything for the 10 album. This a way cool bit of music thanks Milo Master.

Mixes perfectly with Steely Dan's Do It Again.

no doubt Steely Borrowed that track. It's way too similar.

Tenebrius1963 Well, the Steely Dan track is from a 1972 release. I don't think this cut is that old.

I can hear faint elements of ray manzarek’s rhodes in Riders on the Storm here. same era I think. Beautiful track. Loved that JJ had a mobile studio and produced a lot of tracks from shows on the road. He was a real good sound engineer. One of the first to use a drum machine.
