"This only affects a minority of people." I thought we were supposed to stand up for minorities.
@meaningfuldebateАй бұрын
Exactly.. However, from transgenderism point of view & those who support it, women don't really matter or are counted as a real minority. Why? Well, it's simple. From their point of view, transgender women are women. Why the fuss? We enhance womens rights, we promote women's rights & elevate the oppressed. Sadly, what many transgender women advocacy organisation & individuals are doing is the opposite. Many many ngos including those closely connected to government in Ireland for example, want a system where just identify itself is enough for a man to be women. Just say the phrase & you are a woman. This is not just in Ireland, it's in the US, in ozzy & in every western type world. A man with a full beard, bold patch, we are all meant to see as a women, just because she says he is. Well, our brains are not quite wired like that in my personal view. While I understand that we are highly adaptive, we must not be allowed to degrade each others rights or compromise them just to serve or allow section of a community to have their chances of winning. People with disabilities have their own sports and rights to go with them. These rights are under the frame work of what can be possible without creating any distinct advantages to people with disabilities while attempting to create inclusion, equaty and more. Not easy & we still have a lot of work to do. I & many us fully understand that transgendered people need their rights. They do & this includes the right for that person to be able to be part of a community in all it's glory including taking part in sports. Before the special Olympics, para Olympics, people with disabilities tried to participate in sports through common channels just like transgender people are doing right now. While indeed they don't need adaptations like people with disabilities do for access, what's clear and evidence shows, that transgender women especially, have a distinct advantage over biological women Xx and even more so when they merely say I am a woman, I identify as a woman, so let me take part in this all female sports. All of us, more correctly, most of us, know how rediculous this is. Transgender women and transgender men need their own sports body and competitions just like people with disabilities advocated for & now have. Transgender people need to form their own groups including spaces without taking away private spaces from biological women Xx especially. Many women of who are raped by biological men xy do not want anything to do with men including transgender women while in treatment. Nothing. Vulnerable women who were raped by xy biological men including transgender women, want to have their space to heal from the pain caused by them and part of this recovery involves keeping transgender women out of female Xx bathrooms in my personal view. Yet, many ngos and individual advocates don't see this irony of how disrespectful some biological women Xx are treated & feel they are treated by many transgender women especially. It needs to stop. Womens bathrooms should be off limits from any self identifying transgender women. Solution, universal bathroom is needed while having an all female bathroom near by too. People with disabilities don't always get their own ways, why should transgender people be treated any different? Why should their every wish be met at the expense of another group? Is it just because transgender women are men and women must bow down to them for example? In my personal view, this is what many transgender women expect & many women who support them do too. It's all about transgender women really, it's all about men. They are making all the fuss. The men who claim they are women by the fact of them saying it so, makes it fact & true. Personally, I don't buy it & many will not or ever buy it.

While men generally have better results than women in those Sports, the question remains if this has biological or sociological reasons. Table tennis for sure not. @@-MaryPoppins- in Sports science, when trying to answer the question if there are differences between group A and group B, there are basically two ways to approach it: You can do it 1) biologically (anatomy, physiology, neurology etc.) or 2) statistically. The statistics for men vs. women are clear. Men have better World records, better championship results, better head to head in almost all precision events (archery, shooting, Billards, Darts, miniature golf etc.). The numbers don't lie. Now you have to look for the reason behind those stats. Looking at the denominator "sociology": It is obvious that more men participate in those Sports, men have more tradition in participating, men make more money, some countries and cultures even ban women from Sports period. But there is also research diving deeper into the biological field with hormones, nerve conduction velocity, eyesight etc. In conclusion, this field is way too broad to answer the question with a simple statement.

"It only affects a few people" There are two statements in that one sentence, first; "it affects few", second; buried conveniently (or even dishonestly) in the same sentence is the speaker's imbedded opinion that "there are so few they can be disregarded as a valid concern". The first statement is correct but vague, the second is an unfounded OPINION. No one challenges nor asks for convincing arguments in support of that opinion because we do not recognize that "only" is the most compelling word in the speaker's assertion. People hear the opinion camouflaged inside a true fact and do not focus on the word "only". What number of people are affected? It is not mentioned and usually the speaker does not know (nor care). How many MUST be affected before you remove the word 'only' from your opinion? I infer there is no maximum in the speaker's mind. A million is still "only a few".

It's not any guy. That isn't how trans works. As a man myself, I couldn't just change my pronoun, say I'm trans, and go and compete in a female sport. If the only distinguishing characteristic of my trans identity is that I changed my pronoun, I would be found out very quickly and kicked out or sued/banned in a heartbeat. I am sure there are exceptions, but, again, it's such an insignificant number of individuals. @@mike9512but the argument “it affects such a few people anyway” works the other way too: There are such a few trans women out there who want to participate in competition sports, why should we make it a national issue to let them compete against biological women? To be fair, each trans woman ( aka biological man) who participates in a female competition most likely ruins the event for most of the women in that event, just as much as a 100 kg man would ruin a weightlifting event for all lightweight lifters if someone would let him compete in a max 60 kg weight category. So the issue would affect way less people if we banned transgender women go against biological women as in the case when we let them do so.
@mike9512Ай бұрын
@@peterabel81 Totally fair point. I would agree more with the first part. I don't think this should be a national issue either way, whether it be banning them or saying yes to all trans athletes. Because it impacts so few people, just do it on a case by case basis because all this stuff cuts both ways. Just like not all trans people are built the same. Being a man does not automatically mean you outperform every woman, and we don't ban men or women from sports because they are above average. I mean the basketball greats like Lebron and Jordon are better than most NBA players, but we don't prevent them from playing just because they have an advantage over most players. Or look at tennis. Tennis is a sport where a very small handful guys have won the vast majority of titles, but we don't ban Federer, Nadal, or Novak because they excel. All I'm saying then is this doesn't need to be a national issue. All trans athletes should be considered. and they can't be banned purely because of their gender identity. That doesn't mean individual organizations can't have agency in setting up a system that evaluates each competitor on a case by case basis. But none of that comes through with conservative politicians or people like Amala. It sounds like fear-mongering and hate, which is why I push back against it.

Whenever those folks use the "Why do you care?" non-argument, they know they have no actual justification for their positions. It's just another fallacy.

Or they "cry uncle" by saying "we'll just have to agree to disagree". They know that you have the receipts and they only have emotion and "but right wing trolls".

I remember when I thought having a British accent made one sound intellectual. Thank you, John Oliver, for showing me that this is false.
@RollMeOne_KenobiАй бұрын
There are several types of British accent. Received Pronunciation is the accent most people are referring to when they think it sounds fancy or intelligent. Cockney accent is what it sounds like John Oliver speaks imo (without digging into his ancestry). It is usually (as you can tell) associated with less intelligent people as it's more common in rural areas of GB. Common way to spot it is an almost inability to pronounce the "th" sound, which comes out as an "f" sound. Examples would be truth/troof, path/paff, and in some cases it's severe enough for thanks/fanks and think/fink lol

A Minecraft KZbinr named StressMonster101 has one of the heaviest Cockney accents I've ever heard. Took me a few videos before I could turn the subtitles off lmao

Please don't think being British means you''re intelligent. We have plenty of numpties. We voted for Brexit FFS. We are in the main anti-intellectual. Stephen Fry is a rarity!

My niece plays volleyball for University of Utah. They are one of 5 teams that refused to play another team with a man trans player. So proud of the courage to stand for what is right!

JK Rowling already had my respect by creating one of the best book/movie franchises of all time, but it only grew when she became vocal about protecting women’s spaces. We love you JK Rowling ❤

Back when I was a teen in the 90s, this would never have happened. Actually, such a scenario would have been considered so outrageous and ridiculous that it would be comical. See: the 1992 comedy movie Ladybugs, in which comic legend Rodney Dangerfield coaches a girl’s soccer team and then he convinces his all-star future stepson (my childhood crush Jonathan Brandis, RIP) to don a wig and play on the team as a girl named “Martha.” It’s actually a very cute family kind of comedy, but when you look back and compare Ladybugs to the horrors that girls face today: it just shows you how far we have fallen in just 3 decades.

Yeah boys going into girls bathrooms were taboo. I still remember the cartoon network episode of "Cow and Chicken" showing the tabooness of boys trying to go into the girls bathroom even if it's after hours when no one is in there. Nowadays is crazy

@@priscillajimenez27 When I was a kid my dad, a teacher, would give me the keys to the school so I could go to use his classroom computer (this was before we had one and goofing around on the internet was a major novelty). One time I had to go to the bathroom and for a laugh used the girl's bathroom. I didn't do anything beyond my business in there but I still felt deviant for it.

Cheating is okay, as long as it is in small numbers. Condition you to accept it in small numbers paves the way for it to be done in large numbers.
