J. Krishnamurti - Brockwood Park 1979 - Public Talk 4 - Meditation, the timeless and love
Summary:
Guns, submarines, going to the moon, etc., are all actual realities created by thought. Thought has not created nature.
Is there something which is not the product of thought?
Psychologically, thought has invented time as a means of avoiding and postponing, indulging in that which it already has.
Meditation is the ending of time.
In inquiring into something beyond time there must be a complete sense of relationship, which can only come about when there is love.
Can the mind, including the brain, be absolutely quiet?
When you are observing a fact completely, with all your energy, the fact changes.
In meditation, which is to bring about a mind that is absolutely quiet, any form of effort is futile.

I wonder if someone could explain his exam ple of violence. I can't seem to understand how just merely focusing on it it would dissipate...

Seee being with something broadens the area of that thing you are calling "violence" for the time being nd if you look at it you realise its through you that thing broadens in a way that you get a hold on that thing nd it becomes you right ofcrse .. so it doesn't go anywhere its just you have seen it all nd there is nothing left in it sooo in a way it dissipates

"Once you start it, do go as far as you can and be serious, slow, understand ...." And K asks, "Where are you?" Where am I?
@SkandPujari
@SkandPujari Жыл бұрын
There is a question in the comments regarding how violence can be eliminated by just focusing on it. If I may suggest, don't see this statement in isolation. Firstly, do we see violence as an integral part of our mental makeup? Also, do we understand that non-violence is a non-fact? If these two aspects are seen clearly, there is an immediate understanding that nothing can be done about one's own violence. Therefore all psychological movement towards non-violence stops. This itself is of tremendous importance. But one is still left with one's violence. And this will come up from time to time. At this stage, one can see violence as one of the inherent capacities of human beings. Can this capacity be activated when absolutely necessary and be in abeyance when to use it is destructive? To put it differently, one can see that this capacity has been used indiscriminately and, therefore, has caused tremendous mischief not only in one's life but also in the life of one's near and dear ones. This, in my understanding, is the cessation of unnecessary violence. Confidence that this capacity will never be used when not required. There is also a realization that there may be occasions when it gets activated because of external events or one's own hidden conditioning. But, having seen the danger of indiscriminate use of this capacity will immediately stop it. It is also essential to understand that in observing violence in this manner, there is no sense of achieving any superior state for oneself. The only motive is to understand one's inherent capacity and how this capacity can be put in its right place. Hope this is helpful,

Did Krishnamurti confound MEDITATION with CONTEMPLATION? I dont believe such a well articulated person would, and it’s all semantics anyway, but still...? I have understood that meditation has more to do with the absence of thought and not actively thinking -ie contemplating- something, as I view what was done here.
@Lupegreco
@Lupegreco 3 жыл бұрын
Understand, but is the absence of thought really possible? I feel that what he means is the awareness of it all, but not voluntarily observing it with your mind.

That's a good beginning. From there, at least, one could approach the whole thing afresh and anew, without any motive or direction. After all, understanding isn't verbal, intellectual or ideological. It got to be something deep, profound and overwhelming.
