before my time is up here I would so love to make the trip to see this Band Play live. Your halfway around the world from me but it would be worth the trip just to experience Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band live. Absolutely unbelievable Band and Musicians, dancers, and marchers. Wonderful concert thank you for letting me hear and see you all
This the perfect POPS concert. They played their marching band contest numbers, then a nice concert band piece. Something for everyone! Very audience centered and gave an opportunity to feature various soloists (sax, flute, trumpet, baritone, etc..) and the ending with the vocal ensemble and some very nice simple choreography ,which is this group's trademark, well received and performed . In the future I would to hear them perform more contest type repetoire-Vaugn Williams, Shostkovich, modern symphonic works like Seika, Osake Toin, Toyko Secondary etc...

You must admit that Professor Kaneshiro has significantly improved the band's sound during his 5+ year tenure, which has been the key to their success at the All-Japan contests: gold for three consecutive years. He had to de-emphasize Sing Sing Sing to do it, but if winning the gold was the ultimate goal, how can you argue with success?

Are the Japanese concert high school bands all the same students from their school's marching bands, or are they separate ensembles?
@demef7587 ай бұрын
Same kids, but some have different roles. For instance, the flag girls generally play the stand-up basses. Rather hard to play that instrument when they are marching, right?

@@demef758 I found it odd that they had a couple of lonely double-basses in a brasswind ensemble, too. Our secondaries (flags and rifles) also played concert instruments after marching season.

@@demef758 Many other double reed instruments such as English horn, Oboe, Bassoon and excess students in Percussion who have a "home" in the symphonic presentations will march as Color Guard and Banner carriers. Also note that this is not a "music class" but a extra circular "club activity" in just a three year high school.
