Just heard the sad news of Patrick Charton's untimely death... he lives on in his instruments, and we will continue to let them sound and breathe. Patrick was a dear friend, a wonderful and beautiful man, of the kind the world is so much in need of. We miss him very much. Merci pour tout Patrick.

Whaouuu ! thank you so much Haruko and Korneel, this is my favorite version. You know how to develop the pleasure of a mix between Hipp performance practice (what a fantastic 3rd beat !) and creativity. All this in an alignment of mind, heart and body : the top.

The bass was made by Patrick Charton +. It's a "B21" with a few twists. A truly magnificent instrument.

Hello! Thanks for your question. It's been a while, mainly due to health issues. But new recordings are coming soon. Probably next November. Will be a surprise... All the best!

Wonderful version!! Congratulations ! Could you tell me which modern strings you prefer in your basses? Which ones, in your opinion, are closer to gut? Thanks!
@viennesetuningchannel61015 жыл бұрын
Difficult question...i’m still searching, actually. For the lower strings, Spiricores are close to the sharpness of gut but maybe a bit too harsh when they’re new. Zyex also has some of the gut timbre. It all depends what sound color you want. For Viennese Tuning i like a reedy, silvery, gamba-or bassoon-like sound. But if you need the big, boomy sound of thick gut strings for orchestra playing, that’s a whole different aesthetic. In that case, Evah (regular) works well, but they have (a lot) more tension than gut. strangely maybe, the Gut-a-like synthetic strings (Vintage type) also work well on a big bass in regular tuning (but the low E isn’t as good as the other three strings). A lot depends on the bass and bow you’re using, on the tuning, and on the type of music you want to play. In the Chaconne i’m using Evah (light) strings at 415Hz, except the F# string where i use a regular G gauge tuned to F#. All the best!

Beautiful!!! Did you publish the arrangement?
@17sweet17be3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We didn't publish the arrangement. It's for two rather rare instruments, the Viola d'Amore and the Viennese Violone, there would probably be no point in publishing it. Anyway, we change our arrangements all the time so there is no "definitive" version of most things that we play. All the best!

Love the sound but the quasi naive, modernistic art really doesn` t go in pair to reflect this beautiful, so-fine and complex piece of Bach. They somewhat are complete opposites. I think the galery is more like Stockhausen if it was to be translated to a soundscape. Thank you for the recording, amazing instruments!

I agree with you, I don't like the weird modern environment. I think it's ugly, especially that distracting tall sculpture between the musicians. It doesn't compliment the beautiful Baroque music.
