This cantata is amazing, the opening chorus have unique tones, picturesque drawing with its instruments. the ending chorale is my favorite of all chorales with BWV 56, BWV 179 and BWV 105.

I get up every morning at 4 am, fix my Jacob's Kaffee, and listen to "The Man"! The Man is my hero music composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. The best baritone of Bach music I have ever heard. It is impressive, like a revised version of Dietrich Fischer Dieskau, updated and modernized. Thanks Wolf !! I have always thought that the baritone role in the Cantatas was written in the first person, as if Bach sang in each one of them.

"Baritone"? Really? Read the soloist credits in the video notes: Soloists Julia Doyle - Soprano Makoto Sakurada - Tenor _Wolf Matthias Friedrich - Bass_ Obviously, Bach wrote for the singers that were available. You don't know that he was a baritone. For all you know, he might have been a tenor.

@@herrickinman9303 he's a bass-baritone. Also, at Bach's time it didn't matter much, they didn't really have categories for singers, a posterior phenomenon.

The recitative and aria in this cantata that are marked "basso" actually lie within the baritone range, but you will not find any voice part in Bach's music marked baritone, bass-baritone or, for that matter, countertenor. (Historically, the term _countertenor_ did not refer to a particular voice range. Within the same score, you may find an alto-range part labeled "countertenor" and a baritone-range part also labelled "countertenor.")
