Only 2 mistakes in this registration : - in the first piece, there is not the division soli/choir - in the soprano aria the organ does not play the chords

These "mistakes" are to be found in Bach's score as well.

Oboe part in m. 77 of the soprano aria was also a bit strange.

I've heard better performances - there could be done a lot in area of bringing each voice more separate but still very strong performance, very romantic like, I like the power it has - not something I would expect from purist approach to Bach

I can understand why the modernists were eager to try smaller ensembles but Richter's abilities allow him to bring out the polyphony most other are still unable to. The slightly larger ensemble also has a lot to offer in colors to work with. I've never felt I was missing anything with Richter

The thing I like about Richter and some other conductors from this era is that they play with such force and vigor that the fugue knocks you out of your seat and then precedes to lift you into the clouds. Really shows the genius of Bach. The modern approach however is much too thin, too soft and gentle imo. Separate voices are a minor trade off- think of the choir itself as an instrument and this approach as the difference between strumming chords and playing notes

I'd say, Herreweghe's version is better and Koopman's is the best.
@Tsotne919 жыл бұрын
jignacioish Herreweghe has at least three different versions of this one, one of them is particularly powerful, which is in the album "Ach Susser Trost". It is the all-time best.

Herreweghe is a nobody, soon forgotten, Richter's interpretations are for the ages.
