Bach is the greatest. Just in case you didn't know yet.

I absolutely love this piece and I always hate it when I see it played with piano instead of harpsichord!!!! But this rendition sounds just like an orchestra of harpsichords and I just love it!!!

Thank you! I love the harpsichord versions better too.

I think this piece is at its peak as the sinfonia to the cantata wir müssen durch viel trubsal.

Oh yes, BWV 146, the old man liked to reuse his pieces, like for BWV 29 :) I almost don't have preferences, I think the cantata version is a little warmer, perhaps because of the oboes, while the harpsichord version is somewhat "sterner".

This period we live in is more high in music technology using synthesizers and the concerto in Dm suits the technology sound but the the Piano version with chamber orchestra is still the best!

I know of people who are horrified at the use of a piano instead of the harpsichord - you are touching on a long and sharp debate ;) Personally I realised that I don't really care much, I used to be much more averse at new instrumentations, now I enjoy them. Want to play Bach with a Theremin? You're welcome!

@@OrzoMondo Being horrified by hearing Bach on the piano is like being horrified by hearing Chopin on the guitar, but we all make vibratos and exaggerate notes when humming any harpsichord piece, so why all the drama?

I know this so well (I love Glenn Gould's live performance with the Leningrad orchestra) and your version is really great! One question: are there possibilities to represent music just the way you do but in 3 dimensions? That should be interesting.

I am using a program called MIDITrail - unfortunately it does not have a lot of alternative visualisations - I would like to build my own visualisation engine, and I will, but I have to find some 1000+ hrs somewhere - perhaps when I retire :) As for the Gould version, I have one with Gould and Bernstein. In my taste it is a bit slow though, clocking at 8m47s. For reference for this one I used my two favourites: Perahia (7m12s) and Gavrilov (7m53s), both with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields. Perahia is a touch fast, but in my opinion Gavrilov (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHS2ZoFvl8-LoaM) has the perfect tempo.

Keep up the good work, man. This is encouraging me to finish some of my own work. What program are you using to record this with?

I know! It's so difficult to find the time - but it's very gratifying. I am using MuseScore to enter the score (I enter all the parts manually, it's part of my process, and it helps me to understand the piece in detail), then I export the MIDI into Reaper.

@@OrzoMondo Nice to hear. I use Ableton myself and have been creating some Beethoven stuff, but must get back into some Bach for the hell of it.

Have you ever tried using VCV Rack? It's quite a powerful software in all regards, and I'd even used it with one of my latest projects. If you're curious how to get a good start, I recommend checking out Omri Cohen's channel, as it explains how to use it. Hope you are well, and keep these beautiful videos coming, please!

Thank you! It is a very interesting idea to start using modular synthesizers, I checked out VCV Rack and it looks very interesting. I've also watched some videos on how to use it - the one thing that I haven't found is how to use it in a DAW as a sound generating module (i.e. playing recorded MIDI). Is it possible and easy?
@DSZI.ShyHunterBB2 жыл бұрын
@@OrzoMondo Yes, If you buy VCV Rack 2 Pro, it allows you to use it as a VST plugin with any DAW that supports those kinds of plugins. It does also work with MIDI, (although I suggest using Loop MIDI in conjunction with it, as it allows you to do more things). I also think that Omri Cohen has uploaded one or more videos pertaining to MIDI in VCV Rack, so those would be a good thing to check out, as well as some forums that discuss the topic. Have fun and good luck!
