There's a reason Beethoven and Mozart told their students to study Bach. He was a cut above all the rest, in my humble opinion. The saying is "There's Bach, and then the rest of them."
@voxveritatis38153 жыл бұрын
There's been endless debate about that. To be fair with music, I'd say there's a Holy Supreme Godly Trinity in music. Bach being God the Father, Haendel God the Son, and Mozart God the Holy Spirit. I find peace, fulfillment, and a sense of wholeness in music when I see it this way. In any case, the three are far beyond the rest for various reasons.

I read that one prominent German philosopher at the time (sorry can't recall who) said that the 2 big events of his life were the unification of the country and the publication of Bach's works. Sounds about right--the Germany of the military and the Germany of high culture. Personally I'll take the latter.

It wasn't forgotten by professionals. Beethoven, Mozart, etc. loved his music and perfomed Bach all the time in private.

Bach is a wonder: over a hundred of these cantatas, and umpty.more works for orchestra, and masses &c &c and all the while making 20 babies some of whom (Karl Philip Emmanuel Bach, Johann Christoff Bach for example) became distinguished composers. ¶ I read somewhere in my childhood, 70 years ago, that some Bach manuscripts were discovered being used as wrappers in a fish market. So thanks to Mendelssohn for discovering this beauty.

Bachs use of the trumpet is central to his faith and his theology. He uses it to announce God's arriving presence. That's why I regard Bach as my favorite composer, along with Beethoven and Mozart, equally no less and no more! The very first piece of your variety of classical music I heard, while studying for graduation in 1979, was the theme music of classical music request program, on BBC radio, named "pleasure is yours". That gem of Bach's hooked me to your variety of classic music - Indians call them western classical music no matter whether it belonged to baroque or classical periods. Both those musics were automatically turned into as pleasure of mine and I don't know how much I was enriched because of these in terms of my enjoyment and also by turning my character and mood, at least occasionally, for the better. My neighbors ridicule me sometimes and my wife calls me a musically mad man - everything because of your variety of music, which I adore. At least for the past three decades I used to sleep listening to Gould's interpretations of Goldberg variations of one of the three favorite composers of mine. What can I, an insignificant mortal, give back to the great maestro other than simply regarding him as my favorite composer, yes one among the three, and almost worship all his compositions. Thank you, Brilliant Classics, for enriching the 'pleasure of mine'. Three cheers!
