M. Rondeau is absolutely splendid, and the organist is no slouch either. Bach's music is surely the most arranged-for-other-instrument-combinations of any composer, Baroque or otherwise, and it always stands up magnificently. If you can find any of Maurice Andre's recordings, give them a listen. I used to have a recording of him playing BOTH trumpet parts of a Vivaldi double concerto. I don't remember the exact details, but the whole piece was done in one recording session. Alison Balsom specializes in the baroque trumpet (no valves), so comparing her talent is ironically a bit of apples to oranges. However you come out, it is thrilling to hear so much young talent out there, investing their lifetimes and their talent in playing music that , let's face it, doesn't pay like what passes for music today.

@michaelkeating96247 жыл бұрын
I'm actually talking about a KZbin comment, but anyway, I found it fascinating because I've studied the shining (documentaries and such) and that's the first I've heard about that song being blasphemous in that context.
@christophermacintyre58907 жыл бұрын
You're right, although I think I may have said that over at IMDb as well. There is a lot of religious subtext in The Shining, like many of Kubrick's films, although he was an agnostic.
@michaelkeating96247 жыл бұрын
yeah, it's interesting to me because I've already studied the subtext in that movie involving the genocide of native Americans, the Holocaust, the moon landing, jack abusing Danny etc. now I've got religious subtext to look into.

Yes, many pictures are from the museum in the Bach House at Eisenach. There are also some pictures of Cöthen (where he worked) and several other sites associated with Bach as well.

Love the video! Are the photos shown of displays in a museum, perhaps in Leipzig? Were the articles owned by J.S. Bach? I understand that he owned many instruments at the time of his death.
@christophermacintyre58903 жыл бұрын
There are displays from several museums, including Bach's birth home at Eisenach, his home in Köthen, as well as a few other places. The instruments on display I believe were owned by Bach himself. Thanks for watching.
