i paid my way through graduate school by building harpsichords. I also learned to play them, and this gentleman's style is exactly how I would have played this piece!

Great story, thank you for sharing! Did you teach yourself how to build harpsichords?
@robertm20004 жыл бұрын
@@annulrsolformrkelse4023 Pretty much so. My father was a good carpenter and taught me a lot about woodworking, and my parts/component supplier, B & G instrument Workshop of Seattle (Lutz Bungart and Glenn White) were also very helpful.

@@robertm2000 How much does it cost to build a harpsichord on average?
@robertm20002 жыл бұрын
@@fantage_lukeh2o Back in the days I was building them, the materials would have cost anywhere from maybe $2,500 to around 6 or $7,000. Nowadays it's $10,,000 and up.
@fantage_lukeh2o2 жыл бұрын
@@robertm2000 Thanks for your response, I'm asking because it seems the average harpsichord price to buy ready-made is over $10,000 so I'm wondering how much cheaper it would be to build one rather than to buy one, and how much makers profit from selling them.

@robertm200 Like you, I also built a few instruments and had the pleasure of donating my services to the recently-deceased (11/21/23) Philip Tyre in his shop when he was located in Michigan. The piece Moroney performs here also is the first piece I that mastered on harpsichord (originally studied organ). The Phillips harpsichord in this recording strikes me as a particularly good instrument--quite articulate and resonant. And, of course, Bach: there is no better composer.

Bach improvised this from a theme? He is an absolute genius and the greatest composer of all time.
@VoicesofMusic4 жыл бұрын
I don't think he improvised the Art of Fugue, maybe part of the Musical Offering. He could improvise fugues, for sure.
@oludotunjohnshowemimo4344 жыл бұрын
@@VoicesofMusic definitely he could improvise fugues from given themes. Saw films of him demonstrating that recently.

+olaf biessen Hi Olaf--this video is 2160p, just click the gear in the lower right corner and set any resolution to 2160p. If you don't see the extra resolutions it usually is a browser issue, but sometimes the KZbin servers go briefly offline, in that case just clear any cached files and refresh the browser.
