Please checkout the video for a quick overview of this unit. I was trying to hold the camera and focus on the unit/other devices so please forgive the movement. I usually prefer a more static setup but this seemed the best way to offer an overview with my setup. (Cables a plenty due to constantly connecting different devices).
I am now able to attach my older RCA output Panasonic unit with my newer HDMI devices. I like the small size and solid feel of the unit. It barely gets warm to the touch and has cooling vents on both sides. The documentation is really just the diagram/example on the back of the box but it is well marked on the unit. Their is a video on the Amazon page (I said Amazon channel in the video) that is very helpful for anyone considering this device. They do have a customer support number available as well as a website and email that is all included with the unit on a card found inside the box.
Both the audio and video came through great for me and I could not tell it wasn't playing as well as if it were through the HDMI directly rather than being converted from RCA. Great little box that now allows me to enjoy the improved audio offered by the Panasonic unit when using my Android box.

hey great video with great detail, i just have one question did you have this box running on a 5.1 surround system, i know you wont get the true 5.1 sound but did you get all 5 speakers to work thanks

Thank you very much, glad it provided at least some useful information. I had this connected to a 5.1 system BUT due to space limitations I only ran 2 front channels, center channel and the sub so 2 (rear channels) was never in use. Around the 3 minutes mark you can actually see all the speakers I mentioned. I wish I could speak about all 5 but seeing as as you could hear the speakers I had in play worked well. I ended up switching to a soundbar later last year then right after I pretty much stopped using the TV altogether. (I just use one of 3 monitors on the PC these days). 3 TVs and I don't use any of them, silly huh.

I just ordered one and my goal is to get Appletv 4k streaming thru it and plugging wireless sennheiser Non bluetooth headphones to receive sound from the show streaming from the Appletv. I also wonder if I might have to downgrade to a 1080p HDMI cable from the 4k Appletv in order to extract sound.

This was 5 years ago and I haven't needed to use this for a long time, never had an AppleTV and don't recall ever using headphones with the device so if you are in need of answers I am sorry to inform you I can be of no assistance at all, sorry Ken. These guys make a nice selection of seemingly nice products so I hope it works for you and their support might be of help though I never needed it with my time with the product so I couldn't speak to that either.

As long as you buy the correct one (input/output properly) then you should be good assuming you use it for the intended purpose. Good luck getting things working!

If your using rca left right audio then you cannot format 5.1 sound output, spdif or optical is the only way to extract a pure 5.1 sound

Hi, I have an issue with a TV that just bought and audio speakers are real bad. The main issue is that the TV does not has any Audio Output (it does has ONLY RCA input and HDMI) trying to connect to a Sound Bar (that has also RCA Input and Optical only) what can I do?? does this will work? Regards,

I never tried this exact setup as I used the HDMI for video and audio but from what you describe it sounds like it would work to go from your TV's HDMI output to the soundbar RCA input or Optical (which I'd use over RCA given the option). Basically looks like what I did in the video sort of with RCA... Android box has HDMI but the surround sound only has RCA connectivity. I assume you'd just not use the HDMI output since you want only audio but again not something I tried and I actually got rid of this unit since I changed my audio setup shortly after to a soundbar. I would check into the info below to be more certain your needs. There are 184 questions/answers that likely can be very helpful you can read here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BIQER0E#Ask I also suggest checking the video/demo on the Amazon page under the pictures on the left. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BIQER0E

I'm sorry I honestly do not know for sure. I really know nothing of any iPad as I have never owned one. I'd like to say I don't think so but I cannot be 100% certain.

This device is designed to take the LPCM, and only LPCM, no Dolby Digital or DTS signals, 5.1 Surround Sound Signal from a target HDMI source, extract it, pass-through the original signal back to the HDMI output so it reaches it's target display/audio out, and allow the user to split off the audio signal to RCA jacks or a toslink optical out, I recommend using toslink over the rcas for the best results, to a DAC/AMP for headphones. This would allow you to get a surround sound signal into the headphones and as long as the headphones have the ability to simulate the surround sound, which many do, you will get that experience into a pair of headphones. Note that when you use a surround sound signal in headphones you do lose some volume so having a proper DAC/AMP to bring back the volume into the headphones is important to achieve excellent results. The Nintendo Switch is one such device that would benefit from something like this if you are trying to get the surround sound signal and put it into your headphones. Hopefully, that helps you and others out. I know your comment is old but others might see it and this might help.

So I have this installed HDMI to HDMI out with the optical and when I turn on my Xbox One X menu comes up perfectly anytime I try to start an app or play a game screen blacks out and goes green any idea what this might be?

Hmmm, I cannot say why it happens but my troubleshooting suggestions are to try a different cable and try another TV or monitor and see if this still occurs. There are a LOT of people using this with Xbox (many variants) and other consoles so it should work but it's shocking how just a cable makes a difference but it could be the monitor or TV so if possible give that as shot as well after trying the cable swap.

If you're using HDR or Dolby Vision, the screen usually always goes out. No biggie. But, if thats not it, I dunno... I just bought one of these! Lol

Xbox One X uses HDMI 2.0b ports. This HDMI Audio Extractor uses 1.4b ports and does not support Dolby Digital or DTS audio, only LPCM signals up to 5.1. You also need proper cables on both sides of the extractor that are both rated for 2.0b. Not all HDMI cables are created equal. They use the same connector style but, the wiring is different. Amazon sells 2.0b cables that are decent and cheap enough. Also remember to try and keep cable lengths as small as possible. Longer cables lose signal over distance and cause artifacts to appear on screen if they are to long or have some sort of interference from being unsheidled. You can still use the extractor but, you are limited to a 1080p@60Hz output unless, you get one of the higher end 4k 60 Hz models.

OK..i just bought one of these and doesn't work. So maybe i am missing a cable? I am trying to get audio from an 'older' TV with hdmi, usb and Rca/AV to my new soundbar which has Aux, usb micro and TOS/optical. Not getting the green light, or anything thru the optical to the soundbar. Any suggestions or am i doomed to get a new tv with straight optical? Thanks.

BTW, i have ONE hdmi cable from the tv to the little extractor box. Then the tos optical from the box to the soundbar. Hope that helps.

I assume you get power to the unit so at the least it is working in that capacity? Obviously there is an IN and an OUT and I mean no insult but I assume you are using the proper of the two. Do you happen to have any RCA/AV cables? As you can see in my video that is what I was using. It's been some time so I don't recall if that was an included cable but they are cheaper than buying a newer TV! RCA on one end and a headphone jack on the other is what I used in this video and it worked well.

Yes, i am getting power to the unit. The red power light comes on. I believe i am using the right in/out ports correctly. And yes, i have RCA/AV cables. 3 sets of them. The first solution i got from best buy was to use RCA/AV to headphone jack wire and plug that into the AUX in the soundbar since my T.V. doesn't have a headphone jack. NO joy there either. So far nothing is working. Thanks for the quick reply.

Cole fyre Is there a chance it is simply a setting on your TV? I ask because on my TV I have to disable the onboard sound.

Thanks for the reply! I have looked at the sound settings on my T.V. and don't see any speaker control settings. Just for the usually treble, bass, balance etc.

I've used a few devices to allow for playback from an older DVD player/speaker system to my newer HDMI TV without issue. I just recently hooked one up at my grandmother's. Maybe you'd like to take a look at it as well to decide which you feel best suits your needs. In this instance I connected her old DVD player to her new 65in curved SUHD TV with only HDMI inputs. www.amazon.com/dp/B01AUN5QUA Really I understand you don't require video but you could get one with it in the event you ever did find a need for it, really only reason I mention it. Ideally you'd use a digital (optical) connection if you have the option. Simple cable then, no adapter to bother with, smaller , cheaper, better...unsure what you are working with though so just another idea to consider.

Ok, I've seen all of the random videos on making VCR's and DVD's play. I'm just wanting my TV audio to be able to play thru my receiver. I used to have it connected via my cable box, but I've ditched cable and now just using the internet for TV. So...a cable or box that will make that happen. Sorry about the repeated question, but just want to get the proper device instead of buying, returning, buying. You're very helpful too, man. Thanks so far.

So a cable isn't an option I take it? www.amazon.com/dp/B00NH11H38 Really the best way I'd think if you have the connections. I guess not knowing exactly what connections you have I can only make guesses, this is what comes to mind for what you describe though. www.parts-express.com/parts-express-dac-digital-to-analog-converter-%2851-compatible%29--180-999 "Converts digital audio from your TV to analog signals for use with older receivers" " This plug and play digital signal converter takes digital PCM and multi-channel signals from your TV and converts them into analog signals that will work with your home theater receiver."

It doesn't matter. Either a cable or small box is fine. However, that Toslink cable won't do because my receiver doesn't have that input.

That box from PE looks favorable though. Only, I think it needs an HDMI in. Find that and I think I'll be golden.
