It’s not uncommon in singleton. Because the one ring is only good if you can easily reset the counters or immediately win the game. And Jund can’t do either.

Attacking with the Thalia may have been the thing that let Wheeler stabilize, but I would also question taking 9 from Kroxa rather than bouncing it at the start of combat and only taking 3 when it came back down.

Canadian Highlander accepts any wizards printed versions as legal even with gold boarders or different backs. That alone can help a lot though you can build competitive decks without the big expensive pieces. Last and most important note is that the community is relaxed about proxies and would encourage you to proxy before you start trading for the bigger stuff.
