The irony of Snape yelling at Harry for not paying attention while said student is taking notes is hilarious
@babadoudidadouda6 ай бұрын
In lukewarm defense of Snape (because I admit, he could have checked what Harry was writing instead of assuming the worth), he probably though Harry was just doodling and not writing about what Snape was saying. And, to be fair, Snape wasn't really saying anything that warranted taking writing notes, and none of the other students were taking note either, only listening and "paying attention". However, Snape didn't take the time to verify if he was right in his assumptions.

Why couldnt the password be Dumbledoor? Snape played the double agent well. Candy, he clearly still respected Dumbledoor. "Dumbledoor" is him showing respect to the previous headmaster, their shared fallen leader. Perfect cover, IMO

I was thinking he can make the password "Dumbledore" while telling the Carrows (and their ilk) that the password is longer, like "Dumbledore is Dead" or "I killed Dumbledore", so that it still uses the true password, but sounds like loyalty to Voldy. As long as the word "Dumbledore" is included in the sentence, the password still works.

Does it? Would a student walking past saying "I like these Sherbet Lemons!" open the door? I dont think so, but I agree he could tell the Carrows he's revelling in the kill while telling anyone else he's showing respect for his fallen leader (remember the teachers don't know he did it)

I don't think the teacher's set common room passwords. Sir cadogan constantly changes the password whenever he wants eden he replaced the fat lady, and she seems to change the password whence she wants as well. I always think about snape using expelliamis and what it really validated. We all know that Lockhart was going to be an awful Defese against the Dark Arts teacher. And that snape has been pushing to be in that position for years. And as such, he literally taught the class correctly to give them some moniker of knowledge in defense against dark wizards. And probably the best level one spell to use for begginners to get away. A disarming spell. And with snape being more than capable of advanced magic, he could have shown off any of the vast techniques in his arsenal. Yet he chose the basic, yet very potent variation of a disarming spell. I think he actually taught the class and taught them something valuable. He also made sure it was a spell they could learn and apply. Because he knew they'd learn nothing else from the class that year.

It’s quite disrespectful to go so far as harassing him. Dislike because of who Harry’s father is? Sure… but not treat poorly for no reason. And Neville ? Absolutely abhorrent treatment. It’s no wonder Neville did poorly when he was being terrorized by the teacher. How can you expect a CHILD to do well under those conditions?!? So yes, Snape was “good” all along… but I will never like him. (As for Malfoy…. 11:50 at least at my school we had Ap AB Calculus and that contained calculus 1 and AP BC calculus which was calculus 1 and 2. So BC was harder since they had more material to fit into the same time.

I was at the Boston stop of the through the Griffin tour! Amazing show! I see some relevance in this video which was a course recorded before the tour and now I know why you brought up snakes last moments during the show :-) 😢 anyway, you asked the audience what to book characters Jonathan and Benjamin were most like and I have decided that they are most definitely Colin and Denis Creavy! Two Muggle born brothers with up the attitudes that are absolutely obsessed fans of Harry Potter!

Snape saying Harry taking remedial potions would've been obvious to anyone who'd seen him in his class; meanwhile, Harry gets EE on the potions O.W.L. despite Snape's passive aggressive antagonistic teaching style

Snape's constant berating made Harry a better potion maker. Like a coach that yells all the time. Works for some, others melt down. (Poor Neville)
@gingersnap85436 ай бұрын
@@biggt0820definitely not the case, Harry’s just good at following instructions written on a board. Whereas Neville is clumsy and accident-prone which is not a good mix for a class needing such precision.

Harry does mention that a ton of his points came from the essay portion he wrote about Polyjuice Potion. He's always been a pretty okay potioneer when he's not getting messed with. Neville is the one who has way too much trouble doing anything correctly with Snape breathing down his neck.

@@MagusAgrippa8 right and I think, it is mentioned in the book, Harry has no struggle to concentrate during the exam because Snape is not around.
@MagusAgrippa86 ай бұрын
@@sigrunludwig5995 Yeah. That's what got him an Exceeds Expectations grade overall, which if I'm not wrong is basically a B in the American education system. He's obviously not the best potion maker in the world, but he's capable.

He barely notices the broken gargoyle, when he said „Dumbledore“ totally beside himself, based on the gargoyle's reaction, it wasn't clear whether it was either the correct password or an easy way to distinguish friend from foe

Re: the Sopophorous bean - "sopophorous" means "causing or inducing sleep". Or something close to that. I have usually seen it written as "sopophoric" outside of the HP books. For example, one might describe calm, soothing music as having a "sopophoric effect". Professor Binns's classes might have been called sopophoric.

Calculus AB & BC are two sequential classes made of three modules. AB is the first module and half of the second module, while BC is the second half of the second module and the third module.

"Remedial" is a term that we have stopped using in the US. It has been associated with being behind significantly, and students caught on, which usually made them feel bad. "Developmental" courses are the modern name, helping students realize that they are developing skills to help them further their studies.

BC calculus was the harder one. The AP exams were A, B, and C. If you were going to take only the first two parts, that was AB. If you took the harder tests, you'd skip test A and take tests B and C. I believe A was pre-calc. B was derivatives. C was integrals.

I went back to the book and checked. "Dumbledore" was the password Harry used. It was the first thing that came to his mind because Dumbledore was the person he most wanted to see. Edit" There was a night when some students at my high school got drunk and broke into the school at night. their first stop was the cafeteria where they stole a bunch of flatware. There next stop was the auto shop where they welded the flatware together in an impressionistic sculpture. Then they broke into a display case in the science wing and left their sculpture in the display case with a little sign that said, "Remedial Art". Remedial means that the student is performing so poorly that they need additional tutoring and practical work because they would fail the course otherwise.

There's an argument that Snape used Dumbledore as a password to make sure Harry could reach the headmaster's office if he needed to, and the Carrows and other Deatheaters wouldn't have thought it weird because Snape killed Dumbledore so to them it would have been his "crowning achievement".

I'm now imagining a scenario where Sirius survives into book 6 and when Harry is looking into the Half-Blood Prince he would tell Harry, "oh, you mean Snape." And that's that.

Kombucha has terrified me for a while because I heard that it's a very "you love it or you hate it" sort of a drink. Tried it recently and have loved it ever since. That, and that odd yogurt drink from Cub... Also, I could only remember that Harry's potion was too watery from listening to Umbridge grilling Snape.
