Jesse I’ve had 3 bmw M135i’s and they have all had similar problems! Most of them suffer with the rocker cover gasket leak at that age, stinks in the cabin of burning with heaters on! Easy repair, same as oil filter housing.

I think i would be doing a compression check before firing up the parts cannon again, if it was an easy fix it would have been done, worst case new engine needed, or rebuild, top of the engine probably been apart already, that's why there are oil leaks.

Good luck doing the timing chain. Hopefully didn't do much damage but looks on the bright side they do engine refurbs for 1500 on eBay with fitting aswell. You can hear the chain rattling. Should have taken the 2017 420d the car that's worth a lot more than the m135i.

I had the same (fuel injection switched off) codes on my bmw, new coil pack and spark plugs sorted it.. be sure to use the correct torque specs on the spark plugs though else you’ll still have issues

I bought a 2011 vw crafter from Birmingham just before lockdown . (Drove from Glasgow). Got 😅an hour into journey home and it was leaking exhaust gas into the coolant bottle and over heating. Ended up needing a new cylinder head. Not what I had hoped for to start with but once I sorted that it’s was fine. Still running it daily now. Good luck Jesse.

Had one of them and it’s what got me into fast diesels, bought the 430 after it then 335d then 535d then x5m50d now just bought another 435 as a daily, s2+ straight away 415bhp with 780nm torque. Insane cars for the money. IIRC even a s1 on the 420d did 221bhp with 478nm and for a daily with rwd and 50+ mpg was pretty much perfect

Piston number 5 may be broken- many cases, the ecu switches off an cylinder for limp mode and then throws a misfire code on that cylinder . A Bosch trap for you to ware money on Coil packs

Don’t know if you know but you can replace the lens on the headlights for cheap and I believe you can do it at home with an oven. So as long as there is nothing wrong with the unit itself I don’t see why not to give it a go.

Also if you do plan to replace the headlights in the end, you could look into getting the next generation LCI ones which look cool, especially with the m2 front bumper conversion kit. This would cost a lot more though so I don’t think it would be plausible 😢.

Would recommend to not only replace the gasket but the entire valve cover housing. Over time they will deform a little and can keep leaking oil around the seams even with a new gasket. Since you'll have to take it off anyway and they're fairly cheap, would just replace it.

Just a suggestion for the headlight situation. To save money, buy a second hand standard headlight, heat up and remove/separate the clear lense and replace on the other headlight. Would probably work out a lot cheaper than finding a projector headlight and especially one from an 'M' spec

With the headlight issue, look for a new lens, split the headlight and re-seal probably looking at £100 compared to upwards of £500 for a full unit. I have an F30 3 series and literally just done this, £100 for the pair of new lenses for the headlights 👍🏻

The valvetronic is a common fault on the n55, you have two options. You can fix by changing the actuator and the shaft. Or you can permanently open it so it never happens again, which is a lot cheaper. Only negative is it drinks more fuel. However when I had a 135i it didn’t smoke at all when valvetronic was gone. So I am hoping nothing else is wrong with it, which is more than likely.

Steering wheel is factory. They came 2014 on. Headlamp lenses are available separately to save the headlamp. Valvtronic shaft and solenoid will need replacing. Easy job with the correct tools
