Good call on avoiding the modifying in the series. It never actually adds any more value than it costs and limits the people who may want it.

When you take connectors apart, use electrical tape and draw, for example, a star on each end or a pound sign. Then, when you connect them all back up, star to star, pound to pound and so on. Never confused then. I do this with eveb the most simple stuff because it's easy to get wrong and can go really bad really fast if it is wrong.

Get yourself a bag of extra long zip ties. That wiring loom could have been tied up out the way. Also, lubricate any seals with fresh fluid engine oil for rocker cover gasket and coolant for the thermostat. And it's always worth picking up a torque wrench and searching up torque specs for things that have gaskets, Google 99% of the time will bring up a forum or diagram that will include the correct torque specification. As well as torque specs the pattern you tighten up the bolts in matters. I may be telling you things you already know but just some good general knowledge to bear in mind.

Done this job on cooper s, same engine, pig of a job but recommended to replace that pipe that goes the water pump so don’t have to put that clip on in situ, also rear pipe is plastic and prone to cracking, lots of them in cooper s and gti that are low mileage as don’t make it to high mileage unless had lots of timing chains and more done, prone to oil consumption due to poor ring design and coking up
