I love my Vixa HF R800. For selfie vloging, a wide angle (0.43x) attachment is needed. It comes with a closeup filter where you can focus on a pollen grain! So you get two things in one. The vixia can be carried in your pocket when hiking, ATVing, etc. and you still have a camera with a large optical zoom.

Hey Man, thanks for this and all your videos. I just bought the canon 800 version and it is on the way. Also, I bought an inexpensive light and high speed sd {10-1} card from amazon. The 80 has a small amount of memory and WiFi but in many of the negative reviews people are complaining they are having trouble with both. Sometimes it is a few extra steps and then sometimes it is like cracking the Davinci code. Yes, in full sun auto mode it will do pretty good. Stray away from that and the vid quality takes a dive.

Awesome! Yeah in my opinion, the extra features of the 80 aren't worth it. I dont even use them. I got a better deal on a refurbished model which is the only reason I bought the 80. It's a great camera as long as you know its limitations. The light will be a lifesaver when you have to use it in low light conditions. :) thanks for commenting

@@nerozone84 for what you're doing, I recommend the Sony AX-43 or the Panasonic HC-VX1.. they're quite a bit more expensive but the higher quality is necessary for filming in that type of environment.

I honestly love this little camera for what it is..alot of times when I use this camera now its just for a "quick and dirty" vlog so I'm not as concerned about getting the lighting perfect. I'm more concerned with getting a particular message out. For my productions, such as the short films, my friend uses his high end camcorder to shoot them and we get very particular about lighting, staging, etc. Thank you so much for your comment and for subscribing! :)

Thank you! I didn’t start out with my cell 📱, but think it may hv been better then the cheap Lvquone Camcorder I bought. It was supposedly 60fps-but I swear the picture was choppy & the color sucked! I paid $130 too much for it! So, my KZbin channel is slowly growing (it prob would grow faster if I had a better 🎥-the pic & sound quality suck!) So, I’m looking into the Canon Vixen HR 800. I already ordered it! & am super excited. (I don’t want a mirrorless camera-I like using a camcorder.) I’m actually glad that the Canon Vixen doesn’t have 4K-I want the picture-quality to be better, but I don’t want my 💻‘s memory to get full or for my uploads to take forever ♾! So, the Canon shooting at 1080 FPS 60 is 👌! I’m so excited 😆! I paid about $330 for my Vixen bc I got the pro-pack. I can’t wait 😊 for it to arrive! I also ordered a $14 wireless remote to go with it! (Essential for me & my KZbin channel.) & i ordered a $20 Lavalier 🎙 for it, as well-even tho I got the pro-pack, & it supposedly comes with an exterior 🎙. I already have a tripod, but not a mini one.. & the pro-pack comes with an extra 🔋 (i think I could’ve got a cheap generic one for $10, but I saw a 2-pack for $35-so the extra $30-40 for the pro-pack was worth it, even if I don’t need the extra scan memory card, or the tripod, etc.). I can’t wait 😊! So stoked! & it has auto zoom! Which is very important to me for my tarot videos! I use the Mount Dog 💡. I love it 🥰. Thank you for doing this! I subscribed!

Yeah you can use this camera as a webcam. But in order to do that you'll need a device such as cam link in order to connect it to your computer to be recognized by your pc

also the minimal aperture is 1.8, and to get the same aperture on a DSLR you have to buy a 35mm/50 mm lens, since the kit lens' minimal aperture is 3.5

That's true, but keep in mind the sensor on the DSLR is way bigger than the Canon Vixia.

What preset on the VixiaHFR800 would be best for a music concert that is in a small scale theatre? I keep it on Auto but I noticed that the footage is not too clear when zoomed out so that I can see the whole stage, I found that when zoomed in close on the performer the camcorder is much more clear - is this because I am zoomed in and the cam has more light? I am taking video from the concerts I go to see so that I have the memories of them so I just want to get stage video that is not blurry. The presets are low light, spotlight and cinema (or theatre?) and i am wondering what would work best if I am zoomed in on the performer as I think maybe the cam can get enough light source from the stage lighting so maybe I should just keep it on the auto setting? I do realize this isn't the best cam for concerts, most of the videos I come across for this camcorder are used for vlogging - also Canon has discontinued the VixiaHFR800 so its hard to find anything about settings for concert/stage settings and my skill at this is low.

That's a good question. I THINK you can only stop and start recording, which would result in separate clips.

The biggest difference is some of the older models dont have a threaded lens, so if you were interested in getting filters and adapters, it might not be possible. But that's the biggest difference.

Yes, you can send it directly into an HDMI input on an ATEM Mini, for example.

If you're doing professional work such as wedding videos, I dont recommend using this camera. I'm not going to say its impossible to create a beautiful wedding video with this camera, however, using a low-end consumer camera like this will present problems and hurdles you won't have to deal with with a more professional rig.

What kills it from being a pro camera is the fact that you can only record in the MP4 codec... so you will have to at least compress that again before exporting your timeline... and if you add grading to it, often times it has to be re-rendered again... - that being said, this is a sub $300 camcorder that shoots in 1080p60 - so... for the price, you get what you pay for - also there are some cases where full auto is ok if you have no choices with extra lighting, etc - what good is not gaining up to see images vs cleaner footage of nothing... Most people that buy this camera are not going to use it like that... it's a soccer mom camera... I wish canon had a 4K version of this size in their Vixia line up with a 1 inch sensor... yes, and for $200 please :-)

It really is a good camera for what it is and a good beginner's camcorder. It's also great to take on adventures without worrying if something might happen to it. I'd say what REALLY cripples this camera is the small sensor. Canon knows this and did it intentionally. I say this with certainty for the simple fact that this camcorder produces excellent image quality with PERFECT lighting. That can be very hard to achieve at times. If they put even a half inch sensor in this beast itd be way undervalued.

@@GlitzGlamTVProductions Yeah, Canon loves to do that stuff so they can make more money of course on people that need pro features - It's a shame since my M500 is roughly the same size and has a 1/3inch Pro CMOS in it and AVCHD - but it will only do 1080i. The footage could "hang" with my 3 chip Xf300... I wish Canon would make an updated version to the M500 - they'd have a home run for Pros and Semi Pros - I agree though - take it anywhere and who cares if it gets ruined vs a $1000+ camera

@@Mediaman67 I saw test footage with the G50 and I was impressed. I saw a guy compare footage to the AX53 and it was REALLY close. From my own experiences, if you plan on working in manual mode with consumer camcorders, Canon is the way to go. The Sony consumer camcorders I owned were good for auto but they sucked for manual mode because they severely limited what you could do. For example, the Sony CX455 would let you adjust gain, iris, and exposure, but not all at once. 2 out of 3 would always be set to auto. Lame.

It's a great camcorder for sure, but only does 4k30 - on the G60/xa50, The 1 inch sensor makes all the difference. I had looked at the sony little 4k's a while ago, but I actually like the color science of Canon cameras better. - lol I have too many cameras :-) but no tiny 1080P60 ones that have a large sensor... I was looking at the Sony RXO II -but it's too expensive for what it is I think...

@@Mediaman67 I know exactly what you mean by liking small compact cameras. I was drawn to the XA40 for that very reason. It's such a tiny camcorder that produces great footage..however, it's only a 1/2 inch sensor. I know you stated you prefer Canon, but the Sony NX80 is a very compact camcorder and has a 1 inch sensor. It produces BEAUTIFUL image quality in my humble opinion. I've used a big clunky camcorder that is loaned to me by a friend but it is so cumbersome when working my way through a crowd. And by the way, is there any such thing as having too many cameras?? Good lighting will fix the grain in most situations. The tricky part is finding the balance of enough lighting vs too much lighting. If the lighting is too bright, you'll wash out the image.
