Hey Suchi! The film was actually about the male lead wanting to commit suicide. It would have been a much better film if that had not been removed. Recently I have been also struggling with suicidal thoughts, it would be a pleasure to see Shah Rukh Khan get over the will to commit suicide and to live freely and with love like in the end.

This is one of the best imtiaz ali movie❤️❤️. Shahrukh did a fantastic job as obvious and I can't see any other girl playing Sejal like anushka. Their chemistry killed it🔥🔥 and the story was beautiful to show them both ❤️

Sucharita I really can't explain to you how much I am in love with Imtiaz Ali's story telling ! Every time I watch his movies i feel he has made it taking a hint from my life. Like Love Aaj Kal is inspired from my first relationship. I believed in it so much that I actually got married thinking my boyfriend would come to my wedding and say "Tu toh hamesha set thi na ki shaadi karna hain ...insist bhi toh kar sakti thi". Unfortunately nothing like that happened and I got married ! 😔 Then Rockstar came along and i thought it's again on my life .. how unfulfilled love can destroy one's life ! Then I grew up and so did Tamasha which showcased real life problems of how we are born to do something special but end up working in a corporate with a boring monotonous life (Andar se kuch aaur hi hain hum par bahar se hain Majhbur .. what a line and exactly my life). Wishing to be a scuba diver but stuck in a boring corporate job ! Then came Jab Harry Met Sejal. The promos, songs, acting nothing looked like an Imtiaz Ali film but I silently hoped that it would again explore another aspect of my life. I have been ignoring all bad reviews from yesterday thinking that people does not have the capability of understanding his story telling. But now after watching your review (I completely believe in your reviews) I am so sad to settle with the fact that yes Even Imtiaz Ali can make bad movies ! Heart broken !!

Harry was obviously super sad about something in the past. After making a big fuss with SRK's dramatic upset scenes, short flashbacks & vibes which hints massive background story, yet in the end all we got is.... NOTHING.

I typically don't like the idea of a third person coming between two people, in this case between Sejal and Rupen. I still went with the faith that Intiaz Ali will not let me down and that there will be more to Sejal, Harry and Rupen, super disappointed with this Intiaz with this one. I really wish I could love this movie as much as I loved Tamasha, Highway and Jab We Met but I can't :(

SRK needs to grow up and stretch his acting muscles and these romantic roles are doing nothing for him anymore. Is he looking hot in the film? Yes! Is it odd to see a 50 something man romancing a 20 something girl? Heck, yes! I hope Bollywood moves beyond this tried and tested formula of frivolous romance and it's high time that Imtiaz Ali starts showcasing more mature characters. The coming-of-age self-discovery thing is becoming stale.

Subrat Shri true but also look at Dangal, Queen, and Barfi. Also, Jagga Jasoos was visually stunning but really was testing my patience. I love Basu but there were a lot of things wrong with that film. My point is Hindi cinema is suffering financially and stars like SRK need to step out of their comfort zone. It might not always pay but that also goes with tried and tested formula based movies like Dilwaale and Tubelight.

*SPOILERS* I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS AFTER WATCHING THIS FILM. Which Gujju girl from *Mumbai* who is a diamond merchants daughter (I know many) talks the way Sejal does? Matlab kuch bhi. If she had a SOBO accent it would have been convincing / if she had been from Gujarat. Also, lots of loopholes with the "GAS" wali storyline. Also, which conservative family is okay with her roaming around with a guide? WHO GAVE HER A SCHENGEN VISA FOR MULTIPLE ENTRIES FOR SUCH A LONG DURATION? If he is rich enough to rent BMWs, why can't he visit Punjab once in a while? Why does she want him to find her hot? ITS LIKE THEY HAD AN IDEA OF A STORY AND JUST MADE A FILM AISE HI.

For me TAMASHA was ruined by terrible dialogues. The dialogues written for Ranbir and Deepika's characters didn't really exploit the inner turmoil of these characters. Another case in point is the scene between Ranbir and Deepika supposedly "flirting" (like 6 year olds) just before the Matargashti song. The scene goes on for a good 10 minutes! (Face palms)

The basic difference between SRK and Amir is that Amir guides the director in fulfilling his vision and takes care of any loopholes in story throughout bringing his years of work exp. Hence with him even d 1st time directors are able 2 deliver top notch work. SRK lets d director bear entire burden and does his acting part without contributing to overall project. Hence his acting is appreciated but his movies r flawed.

I really wanted to look for a meta narrative in this movie, comparing Harry's character arc to SRK's real life journey. How SRK himself is feeling lost in the industry, doesn't know whether to go back to the DDLJ Sarso ke khet times or to try something new, subtle self referencing with palat moments. The fact that SRK is actually doing a movie with Imtiaz in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. I really wanted to believe Imtiaz did attempt a meta movie but his palette-cleanser comment gave me a reality check and said, "jyada dimag mat laga. Imtiaz ali hai vo Alejandro G. Iñárritu nahi"😂

Very nicely reviewed. I felt the same. Wanted to love the film but could not. It was miserable. All goes to Imtiaz Ali. Either he lost it or he did not make this film himself. To recover I had to watch Jab We Met at the afternoon to realize that actually it's Imtiaz who made a mess of his own idea of soul searching. Cannot believe Highway or Tamasha are made by the same director.

I totally agree with you that Imtiaz seemed lazy and disinterested here. It felt like he made the movie with zero passion. The layered characters, observations into the human psyche and the masterful use of music that made Highway and Tamasha such masterpieces was totally missing here. There was a story to be told about two people realizing they don't need to be what society has shaped them to be there, but it was so underdeveloped and lost under the weight of masala clichés, random haphazard songs, too many montages and distractions in the plot.

I am a big big fan of SRK, I dont know the reasons for not delivering blockbuster hits. I suggest SRK should start using remakes from South Indian films (like Salman did to save his career), well down south even a small budget movies have decent scripts.

let me tell one of the super natural experience I had at the time when jhms released. I made a firm decision of not going to jhms bcoz of Fan and the bad reviews even my cousin said that the movie is a bore . Then after one week of Jhms released, I was alone at home suddenly I heard a voice it was Srk he said" tu logo ki baato me aa raha h ek baar movie dekhne aaja" Let me tell it was the most amazing movie I have ever seen jhms is a masterpiece even that song Phurr by dilpo juz shakes the whole theatre superb beats plus the romance was great people who haven't been abroad won't understand that movie its for NRI and foreign return people not for poor people who never went out of India . JHMS has class

Wait. Do you not realise there are films which fall in the 'light heart and feel good movies'? Sejal is a girl who thinks is enough settled and is really confident that she is a girl who never gets influenced. Harry is a man who guides people but is unaware of his own goal. The scenes are genuine man. Bars mein nahi hota kya aisa scene? Where you are touched and you beat up the man later realising you are in great trouble? If the bangladeshi goon wouldnot kidnap them, why would she search for first aid and end up finding the ring and hence her own wishes? If you feel layers, doesnot mean imtiaz will always be a layer director. He is a man not a plasma membrane.

By layers the reviewer meant character development. It's when the story evelops you in itself entirely , regardless of the fact if you were able to relate with the story or not. Because you don't relate with the story ever it's the emotions of the character you connect with. That's the core of story that at some point overtakes the plot and then nothing else matters because you've already surendered to it. It's as if the writer opened up the character and he overflowed and with him the watcher cut himself open like he's in a hypnosis psychoanalytic processing. By the time he's out it feels he woke up from a deep dark slumber. That's how movies should be. Then you relate with the underlying human emotions present in the subtext. The story itself is a layer and beneath that waits the treasure to be unlocked. The writing has to take us to the door and make us capable enough to open it instead of pushing. But the writing here failed to do so on every level. There was nothing of significance beneath and if there was then the execution was piss poor. And don't you think it's hypocritical of the director/writer to have 'why always the same story' as a tagline for a movie then go on to make one so incredibly similar to his past ones it seems that it's a mashup. My main beef with it is that the title comes from that of a foreign movie and has no originality behind it too and it reinforces that hindi cinema copies foreign cinema. Somebody should ask him why always the same story and perhaps then he'll have an existential crisis himself and perhaps then only will he write something new something better.
