Great video! Just a small suggestion: when you have an interview with low quality sounds, please put subtitles. For non-native english speaker it's a bit tough to follow, and automatic subtitles are not perfect.

The thing about your question on whether someone should accept a payment of 1 charizard card per week is that, if that household has that many charizard cards (because land needs mowing frequently), I don't think they would be worth 1500 usd a piece. I couldn't find much info on how many PSA 7 cards there are though.. Just a thought I had.

As for the question: "How does Bitcoin have real monetary value" @ 4:55. Simple answer: it doesn't. It's just the medium for a lot of speculation and financial bullshittery to be honest. People use Bitcoin as a store of value, not as a medium for monetary exchange. It is too volatile to be used as a currency, especially as it trends to be a deflationary currency. It's literally the product of a half baked libertarian understanding of the economy. With Bitcoin being inherently deflationary, it basically means the people who own Bitcoin are discouraged from spending it since it will increase in value long term (until the system crashes). And the rapid swings in the market make it too volatile to accept as real currency.

I like how she stated that a government simply outlawing btc is enough to shut it down, but from how btc works it isn't that simple. By that logic we shouldn't see drugs in circulation.

My only concern with bitcoin is how it will work in the future with its ever increasing ledger size. It's becoming less and less decentralized, since it's easier for people to rely on centralized services to host wallets for them, rather than own and operate a full node on a dedicated computer. I also dislike the energy footprint associated with the proof of work.

people have to realize that even if a decentralized currency is good, they forgot the importance of a centralized currency. The water you drink, the roads you drive on, the schools kids go to, they require a central government to collect money based on your income. cryptocurrency hides your money in a way and is untraceable and therefore ruin the foundation which we live on by bypassing taxes to support our own lives. yes, that is right. taxes are necessary or we'll live in the stone ages. it is however not right when corrupted individuals use the taxes fro their own gains.

The problem with bitcoin (as well as with any other currency introduced in an orderly way) is that it reinforces or hardens social injustice on a global level: If someone does not have any $ left now, from what money should he or she invest in bitcoins (or buy the CPU to mine some)? On the other hand, if someone has the money now, he or she will experience an exponential gain without having too much to worry about a potential loss... (Also, Bitcoin's most vulnerable point is that anyone who at any point gains access to more than 50% of the computing power within the Bitcoin network can controll all of the cash flow within the network. Of course, there are mechanisms in place against these problems, but one never knows)
@david216867 жыл бұрын
Reinforces or hardens social injustice? Perhaps the appeal of Bitcoin is that it allows people to escape the tyranny of armed governments pointing guns at you in the name of "social justice". Also, you can always earn Bitcoin in exchange for goods and services. Money doesn't just pool up in a single hard drive indefinitely.
@ElchiKing7 жыл бұрын
+david21686 As I said, this problem applies to every new currency. It's much easier to gain large amounts of bitcoin as an "early adopter" who can take the risk than as someone who has little to no capital to invest. Trading bitcoins for trades and services only gets you as many bitcoins as your service's value is at the moment you're selling it. Since the "real" trade with bitcoins (i.e. exchange for goods and services) started some time after people were able to already get bitcoins by mining and investing (i.e. without trade of goods and services), it puts those who (almost) only have goods and services to trade in a great disadvantage.

Bitcoin is an investment who's ship has sailed and the common folk can no longer get on board unless it outright crashes or there's a revision to perhaps have a tiered or metric system of value. For example for it to be a universal currency, the early adopters could effectively become their own banks by breaking down their bitcoin to smaller values and selling them. I guess this is sorta how data mining works, but because it's not really to ensured 1:1 value at that base value so the next wave of people may not stand to win a whole lot through immediate transfer, but also don't stand to lose it either because the risk of investing in bitcoin for most people right now would be life-shattering if it failed. And I guess that's the main challenge to overcome, it's definitely an investment at the moment, not a currency. Yet, fiat currencies right now overwhelmingly run investments, including - for the moment, bitcoin.

those currencies are all good and well until those twats start buying GPUs like crazy, for a mining operation that will possibly, maybe, return the investment after half a year. And well-intentioned gamers like me who are just looking for a mid range graphics card have to deal with those bullshit inflated prices
@DHRUVPATEL-ny9ni6 жыл бұрын
i would say NO to that charlizard deal( given a new charlizard is introduced in the market with that payment) because i think 1500 per card is the value when there are limited amount of those cards in the market. If you agree with this deal you will be eventually stuck with a single card every month whose value is decreasing every month (supply and demand)and you can do nothing about it.
@AGoldSoldier6 жыл бұрын
DHRUV PATEL Yeah, it's decreasing, but it's still SO much more money than I'd get mowing the lawns in my neighborhood
